Has anyone shopped at them.. There's one not to far from my house but a little out of the way . Not bad. The only problem I have is their check out. Not so much that you have to bag your own food, I'd rather do that. But, the fact that the cashier sits there with so much cash.... I guess they aren't affraid of getting robbed. But considering the area, they should! www.aldifoods.com/index_ENU_HTML.htm

I go to Aldis 90% of the time. I have never gotten anything there that I have disliked or was spoiled or didn't taste good. I do avoid it the first 5 or 6 days of the month. EBT card time.

Agree with happyscooter. I avoid at all costs the first few days of the month. We have 2. One is a nice, newer store in a better area. I try to shop at that one. I shop there sporadically. I don't think their prices are as competitive as they used to be. I can buy most of my groceries for a lot less using coupons and store promos elsewhere. Aldi does not carry name brands and does not take coupons. Their produce is either fantastic or horrible. You can usually tell by looking at it. When it's good, that's where I buy all of my produce cuz their prices are usually way lower than any of my grocery stores. There are a few things I haven't liked from there, but, overall, most are fine and comparable to name brands. I do not like their bread, at all. Can't stand their yogurt either.

I'd be scared to work there, too. It's only a matter of time before some yegg decides to demand the cash.
DD shops there a lot. It's only rarely that one of their brands is yuck...like their chili. Ew. And we've had the same experience with the produce; it's either great or awful. When everybody else is selling pineapples for $2.95 each, theirs are usually $1. And I like raisin bread toast. Theirs is a whole lot cheaper than other stores.

Oh, I think it's important to point out that Aldi's DOES have a money back guarantee on ALL of their products. If you get something you don't like or you aren't happy with the quality, you can return it for a full refund for ANY reason. It might have even been a "double" what you paid refund, but I'd have to check their website to confirm that...it's been awhile.

I have an Aldis walking distance from my home and the only thing I hate is the long lines at checkout. You rarely have more that one line open. I have never seen more than 2 cashiers open at the same time. DH loves their beer battered fish fillets and Butterfly Shirmp.

OK, I must be a grocery store snob because I was not impressed with Aldi's. I only went once but the produce was funky and I couldn't find half of the stuff I needed - not a certain brand, just certain things weren't even available to purchase. And I don't buy high end, unusual food items. I also don't buy much prepared/processed foods so I wasn't impressed with the very small amount of fresh meats/seafood or lack of completely. Like I said, I must be a grocery store snob.

Heck no, you're not a grocery store snob. But I've gone to Aldi's a few times when absolutely nothing I wanted was available. Give 'em another chance. It could be that the timing was wrong and shelves were emptied at a busy time or right after a payday, like the 1st or the 15th of the month.

The one by us doesn't open until 10 am but when the doors open is usually best. I think ours is restocked twice a week, and one of those days is Tuesday.

MerryHeart, you are not alone. I decided to try Aldi's because everyone talks about what deals they find there. I walked in and walked right back out. I'm not a brand person but there was nothing in the store that called out to me. Also, the parking lot is impossible to get in and out of.

I like to buy things like Olive Oil there. Aldi is on my grocery trip "loop" (about 5 stores I hit to get he best prices, all within about 1 mile of each other) and occasionally I'll stop by and get a few things. Their prices aren't all that great on everything, but the olive oil is usually about 2 bucks cheaper than anywhere else. They've also got gallons of milk for $1.49, but I usually get my milk at WAGS or CVS using my rewards $$, so its free. Their prices on eggs and dairy are good, the produce at my Aldi usually looks like is about a week past its prime, and the frozen items are hit or miss. I use to buy their canned tomato sauce, but it kinda has a funny taste to it, like it has added seasoning or something. I also use to get their canned cream of chicken soups for cooking. Lately though, it seems that I find better deals with coupons/sales on the name brand stuff instead of the aldi stuff.

I would also like to add that I do usually find a few name brands at my Aldi (usually for snack foods, like special K bars, and candy bars). And they are very clean, and don't have that grimey-feeling that sav-a-lot has. I refuse to shop at sav a lot, no matter how cheap they are (they all smell pretty badly here).

We have one Aldi's store and are getting a new store later this year (to replace the old one). We shop there 2-3 times a month, usually for special items that we see advertised in their ad. Some prices are good, some aren't. You just have to pay attention.

We live near an Aldi's and I do most of my shopping there. When I started shopping there, ground turkey was only 89 cents per pound. The price has gone up to $1.39 but it's still a bargain. One thing that I have learned the hard way, is that if they have something special in stock that you like, buy as much as you can afford.
They had spaghetti sauce with sausage and peppers that was fabulous and when we went back there was no more. They didn't get more for many months. Another time they had turkey chili and I bought as much as I could. DH brought some of it in a crock pot for a work potluck and people asked him for the recipe.
I think they are owned by the same company as Trader Joe's. Occasionally, they have the cereal I like saving me a trip to Trader Joe's.
Their produce section is rather small but their chocolate section is heavenly. Imported chocolate of every variety. yummmmm. Their last special I stocked up on dark chocolate covered macadamia nuts.

Besides the food, I've had good experiences with their potted flowers in the spring but you have to get their early to get them. They go quickly. Like others have said, their produce is hit or miss. I've been especially pleased with the produce I have bought there. Love the cheap pineapple!

We have 3 in our area (when I say that, they are all still about 40 minutes from where I live). My folks used to shop at the one in IL when they went to visit my grandparents. Mom used to rave about their food and prices. When the first one came here, I resisted it, but decided to try it one day. Didn't get much and didn't care for it. Fast forward to 2 years ago when I started on my get out of debt road, and decided to try it again. I would take $40 in cash, and when it was spent, it was spent. Made you really think about a couple of things that you put in your cart! Maybe it was because of a different mindset, or maybe I got used to the generics, but now I think the food is good. I won't buy milk or lunch meat because I really didn't like those.

I shop at Aldi's almost every week. Love their dairy, baking supplies, pretzels for kids lunches, basic produce like carrots, celery and potatoes and love their wheat breads. My kids do not care for their cereal or chips. I do not buy much of their frozen foods but love their ice cream

Some people prefer to use their "credit cards" because of perk points. But on the flip side, recently their data base got hacked into. So anyone that used their debit cards, ebt (aka welfair) cards, etc have been compromised!

I am a LONG time (>35 years) Aldi shopper. I have one on my main travel route and it is right next to a good fruit/veg market and accross the street from WAG.
Over the years I have WAAAY reduced what I buy there because:
the prices are no longer as good I can get as good/better items cheaper w/sales and coupons I have more day old/outlet stores=better prices
There are still a few things I like, find cheaper there and buy: salsa, some salad dressings, non-fat yougurt, nacho chips, rice mixes, tacos (flour & corn), black beans, garbanzo beans, tomato paste, cooked deveined shrimp........

I am a foodie and I love Aldis. They have a lot of European products. Everything is inexpensive. Yes their selection is smaller but that means I'm in and out in a snap.
