I like Anne Burell too! She was one of Bobby Flay's cooks when he competed on Iron Chef so I would love for her to win and be the gal in charge!

Paula does; Giada uses someone else's actual home kitchen in some shows, and her own in others. I heard the reason once, but forgot why her production company made the switch. I like Giada, even though some people bitch about her looks. She cannot help genetics; her mom and aunt and sister are all gorgeous, too.

Michael Ciarello was an ass on Top Chef Masters as well.
I figured.
Ming Tsai last season was really nice but he seemed to be stuck in a time warp when it came to his cooking. I think he'd been out of the actual kitchen for too long.

I think they are marketing her all wrong! Everyone I know hates her, so they should come up with some show where she gets to be the bad guy instead of inviting everyone to share her day off with her. No one wants to see her being nice, so I say play up to it!

I'd stilll like to check out his restaurant in Boston though. Blue Ginger has gotten excellent reviews.
I was talking to a coworker and his g/f is into the Next Iron Chef as well. She said that her brother at at The Red Rooster in NYC. It's Marcus Samuelson's restaurant and it's supposed to be awesome.

I don't think Alex is bad, I think she's kinda odd when you compare her to the other foodnetwork stars. I see her more as a masterpiece theatre host than a cooking channel host.
But she might be quite different in the actual kitchen. The last Next Foodnetwork Star I felt I got a glimpse of "Chef Bobby" when he got really PO'ed at the one contestant for burning hte crap out of something and ordered him to clean it up. Quite a different personality than the one on his shows.

I like Alex on Chopped. The judge on that show that really drives me nuts is the one that hates raw onions. When I see him on the panel, I know that there is going to be some idiot contestant that serves him raw onions and he's going to get pissed. If you have ever watched Chopped, this is the all time idiot move - and yet they continue to do so!

Yep, that "raw onion" thing drive me crazy too. Dude, YOU don't like raw onions. That doesn't mean that NO ONE likes them. And its your problem that you refuse to taste a tasty dish just coz it has raw onions.

I agree Mich! You'd think by now contestants would watch the show before coming on and know to avoid raw onion.
The best was when they had string cheese as a secret ingredient and two of the chefs just threw the stick of cheese on the plate. He went OFF on them. He really wanted to vote them both off.
I agreed with him on that, there was no excuse for just unwrapping it and tossing it on the plate, it defeats the purpose of being on the show.

I read somewhere that Bobbie Flay is quite the rude man IRL. Our friends ran into him at one of the hot shot hotels in DC and their kid asked for his autograph. The guy didn't have two minutes to spare for the child. He ignored the kid and went staright to the elevator.
Could have been a one time rudeness, but he does not come out as a down to earth guy even in his shows.

The point is, know your audience. If you want the $10K, then don't serve him raw onions!

I kinda wondered about that. If it was the same set or not. If it's shot in her house, I assume her neighbors are lovely people (and she feeds them well in return for any disturbance the tapings may cause!). I know Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa) uses her own place, and I really like her kitchen, too. And I like her, because she is someone who did not start out in the food business, but got into it late in life. And her hubby Jeffrey is such a teddy bear. One season of Alton Brown's Good Eats was filmed in his kitchen. I think they were required to move after that but I'm not sure why.

I think Bobby Flay's got a superiority complex.
One of my favorite shows is Diners, Driver-Ins and Dives - I love Guy Fieri, and the way they film inside the kitchen area showing them preparing their specials - and then interviewing some of the locals in the restaurant to get their feedback on the food.
I like the catering-truck challenge/race show too (can't remember the name of it right now)

I think Bobby Flay's career is impressive. I was surprised to find out on last season of the Next Foodnetwork star that he dropped out of HS at the age of 16. I find the fact that he has become a culinary empire pretty spectacular.
Even if he is rude, it doesn't take away my admiration for how much he has accomplished.
Scottish did you watch NFS last season with that Zintra chick? Guy did the red carpet challenge and the look on his face when she came down was PRICELESS. I nearly peed myself laughing.

I'd also happily take Rachel Ray's kitchen, I've always loved her retro stove. If you're color blind! Sheesh, orange and green! Really? Ah those of you who don't get retro. Orange & green is cool. Listen, the best meals I ate for years were on avocado green stoves & with either matching fridge or sunset fridges. Don't mock my childhood.

Mich did you catch the name of the DC pizza place?
My aunt works for the corporation that owns those channels. A lot of their shows are taped in NYC except the design makeover ones.

One was Pizza Mart, the other I think was Big Slice Pizza. Both are on 10th Avenue, about 2 blocks from each other. They're owned by a couple of brothers.

Man V Food Nation was here in Omaha last week. I am debating on if I want to go to The Drover or not for my birthday. We went to Jethro's BBQ this summer when we went to Des Moines for the State Fair. DH considered doing the challenge but decided the ensuing heart attack would not be worth it. La Casa in Omaha was voted best pizza in Nebraska by Foodnetwork magazine. Another Omaha legend I have yet to get around to eating at.

So far, TD and I have checked out:
Bove's in Burlington, Vt. Won against Bobby Flay in Throwdown. Hattie's in Saratoga Springs, NY. Won against Bobby Flay in Throwdown. Anchor Bar in Buffalo. Was also on Throwdown, don't remember who won.
I've been to Magnolia Cafe in Austin, Bun and Barrel in San Antonio, and Parkette Drive In in Lexington, which were on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives.

DH and I have been to Singleton's Seafood Shack in Mayport, Florida several times (shown on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives). It is fantastic and very reasonable priced! We've taken friends there several times and everyone loves it. One of our friends from Philly wants to go there everytime he visits us! ;D

I absolutely love Chopped! I have no idea why, I don't cook much myself and I'm realy finicky, so I certainly wouldn't eat probably 99% of the items that they cook, but I love to watch that show.
I like it when the judges disagree about a dish. Too funny.
