I've never been one to eat things before paying for them, but I'm the nerdy rule follower type. I actually WOULD expect someone to haul my a** off to jail if I did that lol. But I don't think most people think like I do. I've done it before with a chocolate milk on a few occasions. I get it in the back of the store and drink it on the way to the register, or while waiting in line. I make sure to hand it to her as soon as I get there. I wouldn't pick it up on the way into the store because then I WOULD forget! And I always thought I was a nerdy rule follower! I haven't ever done this myself, but I did look in my cart to find my two-year-old happily munching on an apple many years ago! I knew someone who had a similar experience to this couple some time ago. She said she always shopped at the same store, and always grabbed a candy bar to eat while she shopped. She would always save the wrapper and put it on the belt to be scanned, but this time the wrapper had apparently fallen out of the cart and she had forgotten about it. She was stopped as she left the store and was arrested. Resolving the whole thing was a nightmare, and took a long time. I will agree though, nickyleey, that the situation with the small child was horrendous. Safeway really handled that badly and I feel so sorry for that young family.

hey hound friends. this is WAY OFF TOPIC but i need some thoughts. most of you are parents but i don't know how many of you frequent the parenting thread so i wanted to post this here for any feedback. TIA!! ....
hey moms (& dads), i need some advice in regards to my daycare. we had an incident today & i don't know what i'm going to do but would like some outside perspective. so i picked up DS (3 y.o.) shortly after 6. when i walk in the lady who watches the children during the evening shift (5-6:30PM) said "he was sitting at the table and had an accident but we don't have any dry clothes for him." i was thinking maybe a small accident, not really sure what to expect. what i saw was full teetee pants with socks & shoes soaked. i just looked & asked how it could be that bad if he is wearing a pull-up. well, he was NOT wearing a pull-up, nor underwear! he had nothing under his pants!! my first reaction was anger flare-up & i told her "i am too pissed to talk right now" and left. he is NOT fully potty trained and even though he will use the toilet at daycare he does not go every time he needs to. well, about half an hour later i got a call from his teacher. she had left around 5:15 and said DS had gone to the restroom before she left, but he must have taken off his pull-up & not put it back on. she said it's not the first time DS has been in her class without a pull-up on & at least 3 times he has shown up at school without a pull-up or underwear. most of the time i don't take DS to school, DH (who moved out 2 months ago) usually takes him. since he doesn't live here i don't know if he is even working with DS on potty training. honestly, if he did live here i wouldn't know because he never talked to me what was going on, but that's a different story. i called DH at work and asked him if he was doing any kind of potty training or if he lets DS go potty unsupervised. then i explained about the incident today & what the teacher had said. he said he never lets DS go unsupervised and he thinks that if DS is in her class without a pull-up on that daycare is not supervising him in the restroom & she was trying to blame us. even though he does not live with me, DH has no reason to lie about this. he is even more concerned with child supervision when it comes to DS that i believe him that he is NOT sending DS to school without a pull-up on. i'm wavering on if i want to file a report with the state agency or not. in a way i do because if it has happened several times before they are not doing something right - like maybe they don't have enough workers so kids go potty unsupervised. in a way i don't, but i can't think of a good reason other than sometimes that isn't always the best way to handle problems.
what do ya'll think?

I would also let them know that he is never sent to school without undies or pullups on, and that you will expect to never find him that way at school again. It sounds to me like they don't have enough supervision and your little guy should not be suffering. I would keep a very careful eye on this and file a complaint if it happens again. I also don't think it's okay for him to be sitting in wet clothes. They should keep some extra clothes there for accidents, even if they aren't his.

You should talk to the people in charge and ask why he was sitting in wet clothes. That is totally not acceptable.

deb & saveinla - thanks for your thoughts. i do think lack of staff, thus lack of supervision, is the issue. since this is NOT the first time he has been found with no pull-up on under his pants when he never arrives at school without one i may file a complaint anyway. what also bothers me is that it's not the first time he has been found without a pull-up and they didn't tell me about it the other times. i will give them the benefit of the doubt that yesterday the incident happened almost right before i arrived & they did not have too much time to look for clothes for him. i'll ask that DH meet me at the daycare to talk to the director before i file though.

jdnstl - I would definitely be talking to the director. My boys are 3 & 5 so this hits close to home for me. It didn't happen often, but occassionaly one of the boys had an accident and if for some reason there were not extra clothes in their cubby, the daycare always had extra pants. I always left 3 or 4 pair of underwear in their cubby. I even donated some pants and shorts to the daycare for this same reason. Sometimes a parent would forget to replace the clothes and an accident would happen. What happened to your DS is totally unacceptable.

Torani $1 off q!!! coupons.com 35023 zip code. Dancin - I know you are using this because the cost of liquid creamer is crazy. Hopefully this will help. Things you used to get for free..... Every time I look in my closet at my toothpaste stockpile (we have about 10 tubes total - crest & colgate) I realize it has been several months since this has been free. Now when it is free, you get maybe 2 tubes....not 4 or 5 at a time.

You should talk to the people in charge and ask why he was sitting in wet clothes. That is totally not acceptable. Totally unacceptable! I would definitely 1) Bring it to the attention of the director. 2) Make sure there are enough clothes/pullups/undies in his cubby to last him each day and always have backups in the car so you can replace them when you pick him up and he's had an accident that day. 3) Not saying that I don't believe the father, but if the teachers are essentially saying it's his fault (which it looks like they are), then I would kindly ask them to call you immediately next time DS arrives there without a pullup/underwear on. Yes it's not their place to get in the middle of domestic problems, but if the father is doing his job anyway, they'll never have to call you! And if he has enough backups in his cubby, you won't have to leave work to bring him something to wear. But at least you'll know for sure if this is something you need to address with the father or with the teachers. We had some similar issues with DD a few months ago and we found out that one of the teachers in her classroom just couldn't do her job properly (she was great with the kids, but couldn't properly care for several kids at once and was eventually let go). DD is potty trained during the day and wears pullups for naptime/bedtime. There were a couple of days that she would come home in the evening in a wet pullup, which meant she had been wearing it since naptime which starts at noon! She was actually starting to get diaper rash!! The other teacher (that did her job properly but obviously couldn't do the job of 2 teachers) apologized and said that someone should've made sure DD took off her pullup after her nap and changed back into her underwear. After bringing it up nicely a couple of times, the problem was fixed and it never happened again.

I thought you would like to listen to this interview on our local station. A couple wrote this book eating on $2 a day and listed recipes and cost breakdown. Let me know what you think. www.upnorthlive.com/news/story.aspx?id=681984

Pubbler so sorry for you loss. Coupons question. Do you have restrictions put on your use of coupons from the stores you frequent? I always am amazed that on EC they seem to be able to do absolutely anything. I thought my stores were pretty good but we do have some limitations. We get coupons doubled up to $1. Which I love! But it means a .50 cent gets doubled to $1 and a .75 cent one gets doubled to $1 not $1.50. There is also NO overage, ever. Not only would they laugh me out of the store if I asked for overage in cash or a store gift card. If an item costs 0.75 cents and I have a coupon for $1 the register will automatically make it adjust down to the cost of the item. The same for doubling. It can't double higher than the cost of the item. We are also only allowed 4 like coupons doubled per day. None of that ever bothered me. The one that does is they really don't like IP coupons. they will force the cat machine to print out a $10.00 cat no problem if the receipt/ad says I should have gotten one and didn't, but you want to watch them freak out just pull out a .25 cent IP coupon. So what restrictions do you have from you stores?

Also, I would think it would be better to clean him up and let him sit in a pull up without pants than sit in pee soaked pants, socks and shoes.

[/b] Well, since I'm now older than dirt and have raised 3 natural born and 1 foster child, I'll give my perspective on this. All three of our natural born kids went to daycare. We welcomed our foster son when he was a high school freshman. I would not get too upset about the above situation at this time. Remember, it is the first time you're hearing about this and it could turn ugly fast. It's the staff vs your ex-DH. That's a no win situation big time. By speaking with your DH, he now knows about the situation and this may make him more vigilant in how DS is brought to daycare--IF he, in fact, is bringing him w/o the pull-up. This would be my plan of action: 1. Bring some extra pull-ups/underwear and clothes to the daycare. I'm surprised they don't require this as mine always did--especially for little boys. In my experience, little girls are a little better about letting someone know they have to go potty. My DS, however, would be having so much fun, or be so absorbed in an activity, that he couldn't be bothered to stop and go to the bathroom. I can't tell you how many times I would see him in the backyard pulling down his pants to pee (or the other you know what). He was just having too much fun! Of course, we would correct him asap and he eventually grew out of that behavior. Thank goodness...We have a good chuckle about that now and it's good material when you need to "embarrass" them later on in their lives--in a kidding way when we're just shooting the breeze or remembering funny moments in their growing up. 2. Ask the staff to please (emphasis on the "please") make sure he goes potty in a supervised fashion; and to let you know asap if there are any further incidents. 3. If the situation escalates, then I would schedule the meeting with the Director, you and your ex-DH. And, perhaps, start looking for a different daycare. Just my two cents. Godd luck.

Thank you everybody!
I know that if it weren't for what I have stockpiled, I would be hating it. Last night we had a $9.55 chicken; I paid about $2.50 for it. We had instant mashed potatoes; I used 1 C. and paid $.37 for the whole box. I also opened a can of green beans; I paid $.25 for those.
Oh, I am bummed to hear about this. I heard that there was some cracking down on coupon use but I didn't think it was this bad. My stockpile is pretty much gone so I don't know what I'll do now. I guess I'll have to ask for grocery store gift cards for Christmas and see if those last a while. I'll also try to talk DH into transferring his prescription around. I think they're still doing that. Now that he quit his job and is planning to be off for a while, he's been using restaurant coupons and book store gift cards and I even got him to join Swagbucks.
So what restrictions do you have from you stores?
I would like to know this too. I heard that there were changes while I was on coupon hiatus.

In very bad money-saving news, my free organic fruit source may have dried up. I was gone for a few weeks for the wedding and honeymoon and when I came back, that store's shelves were half empty. The mon-and-pop natural food store lost their lease, were bought out, and are being taken over by a small health food chain. My guy there said he'd let me know if he could still give me the stuff they couldn't sell, but I don't know. I haven't heard from him yet. I'll give him another week or two to feel out the new situation and then ask him how it looks. My free fruit days may be over. At least I have tons of dried fruit leftover so I can reconstitute it for probably a year or more. And in real sad news, sorry to hear about your losses, Pubbler.

My stores haven't really changed too much since EC in general.
I have Sfwy which doubles up to .50 (4) coupons only. You have to use a special coupon called a Doubler to do this. Needless to say I make many trips to Sfwy lol when I want to say double 10 coupons. I haven't been hassled about this, but I know people in other areas who can only do 4 coupons a week. And I know some Sfwy no longer take IPs or double IPs, but I haven't had a problem with this at my store.
I have Albertsons which occasionally offers 3 Doublers, up to $1 ea. However, Albs is VERY expensive, so this is very hit and miss on finding a deal.
And that's it for Doublers.
I need to just continue to work on finding the best prices for "real" food. It's constantly work. It used to be - once I knew the prices in my Price book I could just pick stuff up. But, with the ever increasing prices, I'm constantly having to look for which store has the best price.
ETA: The big change here is that there is a regional blog. And anything that gets posted on that regional blog gets wiped out at stores. A lot more people are couponing who never did before. So, there's just a reality of supply and demand.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. NAG - cheap kids puffer jackets at JCPmoneysavingmom.com/2011/11/jcpenney-kids-winter-coats-for-19-99-shipped-to-store-3-cashback.htmlI bought 2 coats for DS & used the 10/25 Q. So $30 for the 2 coats. I'm saving one for next winter. yes, I do stockpile clothing too. There is no way I'll pay full price for clothes, when I can get them for dirt cheap at the end of season sales. I already have part of DS's summer wardrobe that I got for around $25 OOP. My budget is $150 (incl shoes). How am I gonna do this? By using GCs & rewards and buying clothes at rock-bottom prices. I've already got $125 in GCs that I earned thru my CC, mypoints & mysurvey. JCP also sent me 2 x 10/$10 Qs. I got $5 off Kohls & DSW Qs as well. So i'm gonna use my GCs & Qs to shop the end of season sales. Will be interesting to see what I can get for so little money. RE: Free items. I remember the days when we got piles of items for free or MMs. Now its hard to even find a good sale. So, when I do find a good deal, I stockpile, stockpile, stockpile. I don't care if I go over budget. I know that in the long run it will save me money. And I don't just stockpile groceries, I'm stockpile everything, food, clothes, stationery, school supplies. Already noticed that CVS didn't have the freebie school supplies this year. Boy, do I miss the freebie gravy train

My Safeway knows that I'm big on coupons, but I try to keep it as low key as possible. As far as I know, my Safeway is still accepting IPs; but I haven't used one in a while, so I'm not really sure.

Anyone find a deal with Wisk yet??? I have a lot of coupons to use and the cheapest I've seen is $4.97 at Wal-Mart. I can't pay $2.97 for something I have 12+ of, but don't want to waste the coupons either. There's something that Krazy Coupon Lady write a lot about on her blog that I really like. She says that most good couponers only use a few of the coupons they compile. I think this is true. The stars have to align where we have both a great coupon value and a great sale/cat/etc. I know you know this already, so I'm mostly just sympathizing with your desire to use that $2 coupon. I too feel like it's a bummer when I have a high value coupon and can't make it match to a good deal. But sometimes that's the way things go. The thing that bothers me is that I bought them to use with the CVS deal a couple weeks ago and didn't order them in time. Guess I will take them to the store and let someone else use them.

And I don't just stockpile groceries, I'm stockpile everything, food, clothes, stationery, school supplies. Already noticed that CVS didn't have the freebie school supplies this year. Boy, do I miss the freebie gravy train Yup - I too stockile all sorts of office supplies. But, like you, I noticed the lack of certain things this year. No free markers at Wags or elsewhere this year! I still have 3 sets from last year (I think they're still good - gotta check.)

Godd luck.[/quote] Jdnstl I don't have kids, but work with Pre-k for 3 years. We always had extra clothes for them even if it wasn't their clothing. We always let parents know if their child came without pull-up or underwear. The only way I could see leaving a child in soaking wet clothing is if it JUST happened! 1. I would bring extra clothes/pull-ups for him. 2. Go with DH and speak to the teachers together, or perhaps the director, about the situation. 3. Inform them that you both need to be notified if DS comes to school w/o pull-ups or underwear. This will let them know that they can't play one parent against the other. Speaking to the Director may seem extreme, but sometimes you have to go to the higher-ups in order to be taken seriously. Good Luck! Pubbler So sorry for your loss! I can't imagine losing two loved ones in such a short period of time.

Thank you everybody! I know that if it weren't for what I have stockpiled, I would be hating it. Last night we had a $9.55 chicken; I paid about $2.50 for it. We had instant mashed potatoes; I used 1 C. and paid $.37 for the whole box. I also opened a can of green beans; I paid $.25 for those.Oh, I am bummed to hear about this. Freesalsa I have 3 stores that double coupons, $.50 to a dollar. Kroger has changed their policy by allowing only 3 like coupons. Meijer has always been 2 of the same coupons that will double. Rite Aid has cut out the BOGOF Q on a BOGOF sale and also they don't allow use of 2 coupons on a BOGOF deal. Walmart DOES allow overage and I have been pretty lucky there lately, getting a lot of stuff for free, especially getting things I don't have coupons for. I try to go to the same cashiers who are "overage friendly" and know Walmart's coupon policy. Dollar General has been having a few $5.00/25.00 coupons. Using the Covergirl coupons there helped me get quite a few things for free. I earned quite a few UPs at Rite Aid lately and have been using them for groceries and canned items. I am way pickier to what I put in my cart unless it's a good moneymaker. If it's a MM, then I'll use rewards to buy things I need.
