Ok, I have couponing challenges. We don't have a bunch of coupons in the newspapers around here, stores don't double coupons, I don't have a CVS in the area etc etc
But I'm thinking I should be able to get my deodorant, toothpaste and laundry detergent for cheap. Without newspaper coupons, where do you get them?

Go to HotCouponWorld dot com. Click on Coupon database, then use drop down menu to search "printable". Almost every printable coupon there is will be there. I also use coupons dot com, and redplum dot com, as well as sign up on brand websites. They always offer coupons for their products. P&G, Kellogg's, etc come to mind.
ETA: There are also clipping services where you can buy single coupons and whole inserts. If it's just that your area gets crappy coupons, you might consider buying them from a site to get what you want. Do you have a larger city nearby? Usually the major metro area newspapers are the ones that have the best coupons. I live in a rural area and tend to get crappy coupons in my local paper too, but I can buy a paper for a larger area to get better ones.

I get toothpaste, deodorant and laundry detgt from Costco. The laundry detgt comes in a really large container, so periodically I pour it into a normal sized one with a lid that doubles as a measurer. It lasts over a year. Ditto dishwasher detgt.
Costco comes out with their own coupons every few months.

I don't have a CVS either. Do you have a Rite Aid or a Walgreens, Later? Any store that regularly offers rebates, good rewards, "register rewards" will probably get you the best deals. Rite Aid's website has their own coupons (you have to watch video ads to get them but their short and it's easy)

No Rite Aid or Walgreens. Except on here I had never heard of them. I think they are like our Shoppers Drug Mart and Guardian Drug Stores.
I'm going to check about the Costco coupons. Well, I'm going to check them all actually.

I figured not Online is probably your best bet. If the fliers for your store offer their own coupons, you can sometimes use that coupon AND a manufacturer's coupon on the same item, that, combined with rebates and rewards, is how I get my best deals.

When we were up in Alaska, there were barely any coupons in our paper. No CVS, although Walgreens just went up there within the past year.
I'd watch Target for deals on deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, etc. Usually I could get some pretty good deals there.
The local grocery store would run some good promos once in awhile. You just have to survey your stores so you know when the prices are cheapest! I know, not what you want to hear, but that's what we had to do
Good luck! Shawn in FL

The problem is in my area, no store will accept a printed coupon from the internet! I can't blame them. But, I refuse to pay money for a newspaper for a coupon section to save money at the store. Doesn't make sense to me!

cropchick Do you have a Dollar Tree. Ours here in metro Chicago sell the big city Sun paper for $1 (reg $2). I KNOW I will use at least that much in coupons over the 1-3 months they b/4 they expire.
Also, you may want to read the Grocery Challenge in the Women in Red forum. Just jump in. Do not bother going back to the beginning as those are all ol, expired deals. I believe we are going to be re-starting monthly so we don't scare off new people.

Doesn't make sense to me! My newspaper costs me $1.00/week. I usually buy 3, i get one delivered to my house free not sure why, but I'm not complaining), and get an additional set of inserts from my father in law. So total I spend $3.00 per week on coupons. one newspaper's worth of coupons will usually save me about $20 to $50 per week combined with sales/rebates/rewards) I'd say the return on investment is totally worth the initial $1.00/paper

Without newspaper coupons, where do you get them? What stores do you have in your area? Even if they don't double coupons, you can still combine them with sales and get better deals than paying full price. If you don't get good coupons with your paper, you can buy them from the places that have been mentioned and also on e-bay. I use to buy extra inserts on e-bay until I found out that i can get extra papers for $1.00 where I work. You might try checking out some sites that match up deals/coupons for your area. Just google the store name + deals, and you will get a lot of hits.

we don't have any stores like that where I live either. Although, we are going to be getting a super Walmart that is on the way home from my job, and a CVS about 6 miles away sometime this Spring. Other than that, we only have two Food Lions and a Family Dollar. And the FL's won't accept printed coupons, won't double coupons, etc. so you have to go to "town" which is 30-40 minutes away, depending on where you want to go. So I usually either use a coupon or see what is on sale, especially since I don't have to buy much in the way of toiletries.

you can still combine them with sales and get better deals than paying full price. IF the item goes on sale BEFORE the coupon expires. There seems to be an assumption that you can always combine a coupon with a sale. As a general rule, that has not been my experience.

If you have a wellness discount at Rite Aid, you can use that to get newspapers cheaper and/or use your store rewards if the coupons are really good ones. I ordered a set of ten $.50 coupons from Ebay and paid $1.49, but the coupons will double to $10.00 and combined with a sale, I KNOW I will definately use all ten coupons. I too live about 30 minutes away from the major grocery stores and drugstores. My sister and I do our once a week shopping at those stores. We have fun, save money and share gas expenses. It wouldn't be worth it to either of us if we didn't save so much from using coupons. There are also coupon clipping sites on the internet that sell whole inserts of coupons. Some of the ladies on the Grocery Challenge buy them. There are also websites that post the drugstore deals a couple of weeks in advance where you can plan to buy or not. It also gives you time to get the coupons you need.

Has anyone considered setting up a different thread for each of the different stores? I am scared off because I have to go through all those postings to find the CVS deals. Just a thought - I thought I might have been able to keep up in the beginning but you guys post so much

I believe we will be starting a new thread every month, so it is not as overwhelming for newbies. You don't need to read the thread from the begining. Since the majority of our discussion is "current deals", anything older than a week or so ago is "old news". Just jump in where we are.

I've never had any issues with most coupons expiring before sales come along. It takes a little work, the good deals don't just fall into your lap, but if you're willing to put an hour or so a week into researching and cutting coupons, you can save a nice little chunk o change.

I bet if you listed your local grocery stores, we could help you figure out where to find the best deals. And ordering coupons online might be necessary for you since you said you don't get many in your paper.
