I found it at work. I know that it doesn't belong to anyone here (at work), and I've had it for several weeks now. What should I do with it?

You could try to do a "found" ad in something like craigslist or the newspaper (well, in a smallish town I would). Don't put a description of it, but say something like "describe it and it's yours." My son left his glasses in the locker at a swimming pool in another town, someone was using the locker by the time he went back and no one ever turned them in If, after a few more weeks you can't find the owner you could turn it over to the police department (again, small town) or sell it. I'd really try to find the rightful owner first though.

Could it possibly belong to a cleaning crew member or a vendor? Someone who was at your office either at an irregular time or infrequently.

Sharon may be on to something. Can you put it on a work bulletin board?

I don't work with many people, so I'm 100% sure it doesn't belong to anyone who works here...unfortunate really.

...I suspect you are the only one who will meaningfully look for its owner... I'd be inclined to ask the boss if I could contact the cleaning vendor directly to see if someone lost something"valuable" or something... if you can't locate the owner, then you're it... finders keepers... then keep it in your jewelry box at home for awhile... you'll think of something...

Put up a notice in your lobby and request they call and identify it. No responses in 2-3 weeks, I'd follow Archie's advice.

When my aunt was dating her husband, she found a diamond wedding ring on the ground in the parking lot as she was coming back from her softball game. City hall was close by (where the police substation was too), and she turned the ring into their lost and found. 6 months later she got a call saying the ring was never claimed, so it's hers if she'd like it.
My uncle then took it to a jeweler where he had it all changed up, melted the gold, etc and made it into her engagement ring.
I agree with others... do the right thing by trying to find the owner. But once a reasonable time has passed, it's yours for doing whatever you wish.

In the mid 70s my daughter came home with a diamond engagement ring she found. She couldn't remember where. I put it in my jewelry box in case she heard something. Fast forward the late 80s and she asked if I had any jewelry she'd found. I gave it to her. I don't know how she remembered or if she was just desperate to find something to get money.

After calling around, we decided to send out a company wide email (which isn't many people.) I only got one reply:
"Boy, I'm sure glad you weren't there when Bilbo found the ring. Otherwise, Sauron would have claimed it and the story would be over. Thanks, jerk."

I found a mens 14K gold bracelet in the West 4th Street train station 12 years ago. It had a broken clasp. I gave it to my dad, who got it fixed and has worn it without issue ever since.
Random thing happened to me in Times Square right before Christmas. Someone walked up to me with a wad of cash (it looked real,) and asked had I dropped it. My friend and I just backed away slowly, and he went on to a group of tourists. I still can't figure that one out.

Several years ago my niece and her BF bought a very old house. They were down in the basement trying to figure out how they were going to build a laundry room. Her BF climbed up to these old beams and spotted something very shiney stuck up there. He pulled out a beautiful old wedding band. They took it as a sign that they should always be together. They have been happily married ever since and she wears the band. They also still live in the little old house.

Or, at least, melt it down for cash.
