thanks for all of the support! i'm super excited for this opportunity. it's nice to feel that people see value in what i have to say and are willing to take a chance on my abilities (which, admittedly, are someone questionable at times). sheila--wow. just...wow. i read your story and when i was done, i had to consciously close my mouth. i agree with the others that you should talk to your parents and perhaps start to find somewhere else to work. i know that's easier said than done, though. can you send an email instead of writing a letter? reenee--congrats on the student loan! startsmart--awesome news for you on the interview! financialpeace--honey's post is going up on my site on monday, 10/17. also, i'm really sorry to hear that you've lost your job. i'm going through similar marital circumstances and i cannot imagine what i'd do if i had any more stress added to this. if you need to talk or vent, please contact me. midwestern--you are scheduled to go live tomorrow! nuttin--i repeat what i said to sheila. wow. i cannot believe that someone's sibling would be that cruel. honey--you have always, and continue to, amaze me.

Sapphire – at first I thought you had walked 22 miles in one day. But now I see it was over a weekend. Still impressive, but not crazy. mrslynch – great news on the blog advertiser and the staff writing position! Sometimes finding the good things in life is like playing where's waldo...they don't jump right out at you, but it's extra special when you find them. MK – hugs to the kiddos not feeling well. I scream pretty well myself if I find so much as a big spider in my room, you don't want to hear me if I find a bee! We still need a volunteer to be next week's captain. PM me if you're interested.

HUGS to everyone who needs them.
Congrats to those feeling success.
Sorry for the drive by- I am up to my ears in stuff and waiting for the maintenance guy. He told me he may not get here until tomorrow. I told him that was fine. Chinese water torture is an upgrade (faucet is dripping- steadily).
reenee- You have PM. I can captain next week. If you still need someone.

reenee/sheila -- Thanks! My goal was to take advantage of the weather. Somehow that ended up being 22 miles of walking. I took a break yesterday. I've only walked 1.5 miles today; it's raining. Tonight will be pilates. I need to be in the habit of exercising most days of the week. I have a mile race next month for charity. I placed 2nd last year. I want to improve on that this year. I'm also trying to wean myself off of my asthma inhaler. I've had enough of being dependent on a daily drug. So far so good, but the winter is my test.
Mk -- I had a non-drug induced hallucination about alligators when I was 3. I kept my parents up all night. As bad as you feel, DD feels bad too. I'm still not fond of alligators.

Under the heading of "really cool discoveries".... So when I was shopping for stuff for my apartment way back at the beginning of the year, I was really, REALLY excited to find a cool set of china at St. Vinnies that matches the color scheme I wanted to decorate in. It was a set of 6 (mostly, there are a few pieces missing) and it was marked $25. AND it was 50% off that day. So I only paid $12.50. I took it home and packed it away until I moved into the apartment. When I moved in, I scraped off the price tags to find that it had originally been marked at $50 for the set. Today I just got the random urge to google it and see if I could fill in some of the missing pieces. As it turns out, this particular pattern was discontinued in the late 1950's and one of the serving pieces that I got sells for $30 all by it's self! But it does look like I can buy some of the pieces that I'm missing to fill in my set. I know I'm a nerd. But it's kinda cool to know that my china has a history. Now I'm all excited to scout for pieces!

Honey - It's Noritake China pattern 5548, it didn't have an official name, but it's sometimes referred to as the multi-color snowflake pattern. Apparently it was sold to American Military stationed in Japan between about 1954-1957. I love my dishes even more now that I know more about them. Here's a pic of one of my salad plates: So when I was shopping and found the plates, I was trying to coordinate with this pretty brocade I found on clearance... I plan to cover my dining room chairs with it. The main colors are a light blue and a dark, chocolate brown. I also bought a bunch of dark chocolate brown fabric to cover my sofas in. Then I moved into the apartment and I've got dark teal carpet and burnt orange counter tops to contend with. So what do I do? I make awesome fridge magnets to pull all of these crazy colors together.

Reenee, those plates are so pretty! I love blue and chocolate brown.
Drive-by and a question - where do you go to get a tetanus shot? Urgent care? The hospital? Make a doctor's appointment? This morning I tripped over an ottoman that had, for some reason, been left in front of the basement door, and ended up falling arm-first into the tool shelf. Got 3 big gashes in my wrist from the metal lip and since my last tetanus booster was about 20 years ago, figure it couldn't hurt...

I have gotten them from Urgent Care before. Or you can make an appointment with your Doctor. I think time is of the essense so I would go today to Urgent Care if my primary couldn't get me in today. Just my 2 cents

mid- Definitely get a tetanus booster ASAP. Either the doc or the urgent care- although I would vote for your doc simply b/c I had a reaction to the new TDAP booster because the hospital did not keep good records of my tetanus shots and kept giving me one every time I cut myself on something. I got some of my labels done for business- turned out good- but I put the labels in upside down first and they printed on the shiny side first LOL reenee- That's gorgeous. I will have to post a pic of my pie plates sometime when I figure out how to do it for you guys. I have a Currier and Ives pie plate. I have mine and my DMs actually. TBear and ZBear will get them when they are old enough. They stopped making the plates in 1976 (year I was born). I was the only great-granddaughter to get one as a shower present. I feel like I am being chased by my own dog and pony show today- everything I touch I have to do twice! LOL I even knocked the toilet bowl cleaner over into the tub and had to clean that out this morning. Will respond to everyone and give updates later. HUGS

midwest: You can make an appt with a nurse for just the shot. Or go to a retail clinic like minute clinic. mrsl: Congrats on the success of your blog. I hope everything is getting better on the other front. reenee: I know you like the pattern but since it is so rare have you thought of selling what you have and using the money to buy what you need? We have a mobile medical van in our community so I think next Weds I will bring DD and DS#1 there for their flu mist. Will cost me maximun of $10 a kid an maybe nothing. DS#2 is giggling and happy again. I would say he is at about 90%. So happy to see him on the road to recovery. DD on the other hand is definately ill but I can get her to take the ibuprophen and acedaminiphen so she is doing okay on them. Funny story. We were due for rain yesterday but after DS#2 was picked up for day treatment the sky didn't look too bad. So I asked DD if she wanted to take Thor to the dog park and meet auntie and her puppy there (I would give her a piggy back ride) She decided she wanted to go. (I figure since she really wasn't going to be around people she was going to be sick regardless of where she was) So we get to the dog park and start walking. Dogs play in the pond for a bit and then we continue. The sky is getting darker and darker so we start hurrying our walk along with DD on my back. Half way through it starts to rain. Then it just POURS. My DSIS dog is trying to hide by us to get away from the rain and Thor is just looking going "What IS this?". By the time we got to our vehicles all of us were dripping wet. I took DD's clothes off and put her in a new shirt. I had a towel for her and for the seat Thor sits on. I took off my shoes, socks and shorts as they were dripping wet and drove home in my tank top and underwear. Obviously I made no stops along the way. We laughed as the rain was coming down. It was actually kind of fun.

Thanks, I'm definitely over the moon excited to do this interview! They hadn't responded in 2days after I sent the email the owner asked for so I did a little reminder. Actually, I wrote up two systems showing how they could improve efficiency in scheduling interviews and in posting them. The owner had his assistant on email within the hour THEN because I can't leave well enough alone I wrote a thank you to the friend who recommended me and said I'd be willing to help him out if needed. It's needed! So we're discussing where they need better systems and I might be going to Texas to consult! Definitely good news on the business side of life which is helping distract me from a throbbing foot (Jackson, my lab, bit me in his sleep when I stretched and he thought I was kicking/attacking him) and the suckitude of my birthday tomorrow. I'll probably resemble a hermit for the next few days, going to concentrate on my business until the fog lifts on Sunday or so.

Start: Congrats, I keep forget to say that. And happy Birthday tomorrow! Make it a nice day! Well I got one errand done and still need to do the second but that can wait until tomorrow I guess. Having sick kids has been VERY difficult to get things done! I went to my weight loss challenge place to pick something up for my sister. So of course I stepped on their scale. While I am not up I also am not down any weight. Man this has NOT been an easy month! Hopefully in the next 4 days I can lose a couple of lbs. Of course I also went in the afternoon and I usually weigh in at 10:00.

I think the good ju ju may be paying off. DH has spoken with the HR lady at the prospecitve employer a couple of times now. Once to answer some questions she had, once for her to get his permission to submit his resume to a couple of their branches (would mean a commute) and once to try to set up an interview tomorrow. They are trying to coordinate because a couple of branches are interested in him for a couple of different job openings. So they want to group interview him to determine where he would fit in best. She has mentioned several times that they are "very eager to sit down and talk with him" and "very excited about his experience and knowledge level".
So hopeful that something will come out of it in the next few days. He found out today that they decided to give someone junior to him more project manager responsibilities instead of giving them to DH. He is very under appreciated at his job. It's disheartening because he is 38 and most of his co-workers are in their early to mid 20's (several are college interns).

11/20 no spends so far.
Yesterday went to DS#2's school conference. He is doing amazing this year compared to last year. Day Treatment seems to be really helping. Oh and he is completely back to normal. SO good to see!
Then went out with some ladies from my MOMs club. We did a scavenger hunt and it was a lot of fun. I did it when I first joined and it was not nearly as much fun. The whole group that went was fun. Then we went out and had appetizers and 50 cent boneless chix wings.
Nothing going on this weekend but next Sat is going to be really busy.

Update: 6 CS + 5 NS = 11 of 26 Mon-Wed were NSDs. Last night was our spend of the week. We took June back to the vet last night as her swollen glands had not responded to the meds. She got two shots of much stronger meds, a new, stronger Rx, plus we did a blood draw and had the glands aspirated. It was not an inexpensive visit. Still, pretty sure the cost of the two visits for this issue at the current vet is about what we would have paid just for the first visit at the old vet. And, you know, we have savings to pay for the vet. She actually seemed to respond to the stronger meds really quickly, so that's good news. After the vet, we had a planned dinner out at a local pub where our favorite local band was playing. We met some friends there and had a good time talking to them as we don't see them very often. So overall, a pretty good night. I'm hoping for some decent weather this weekend in order to mow the yard (or at least the back yard) one more time. I now have two little doggies, and they definitely don't like the tall, cold, wet grass.
startsmart: Wishing you a mellow and stress free birthday. I know its not your favorite time of year, but know that there are many who celebrate your presence in this world, even if its just by raising a cup of Red Rose to you today.
sheila: will keep sending the good juju your direction
MK: Glad DS#2 is feeling better and doing better in school. That's great news. Hope DD starts feeling better soon, too.
mid: I also enjoyed your post on MrsL's blog.

Happy Birthday Startsmart. I hope you have a wonderful day. Sheila - Best of luck to your DH. midwest - Good post. Mrsl - I'm with Mizbear, I love the discalimer. mk - Congrats to your DS#2 for progress. How did it get to be the middle of OCTOBER? Geez. Where did the year go.? I got my CC statement (the one I charge everything to and then pay it off each month). We spent $455 on our trip on that card (the resort didn't take discover, so another $120 on my visa that I use when places don't take discover). Anyway, even with the $455 we are within our ok range for spending and then if you subtract that out and add in maybe $100 for groceries and gas for around town in those days, we are still way below average for spending for the last 30 days. That makes me very very happy. I'm hoping we can go to the farm/park tomorrow since the weather is suppose to be nice this weekend. It is suppose to be a lot cooler next week. But mid 70s saturday and 80 on Sunday. I guess we better enjoy it. DH hasn't been feeling well the last couple months. He hasn't been able to sleep and he has been hurting. That makes him grumpy which makes DS and I grumpy. He said he was going to go to the doctor to get a full physical, but he hasn't done it.

Hugs to those of you who need them because of layoffs or ill family members or just stressful days. I scanned and am semi-caught up. I of course have not been tracking... been a bit of a frazzled month, but we jet off on our one-year anniversary cruise on Sunday, thank goodness! Need some chill out time!
Yesterday was a spend - went to see RENT with friends. Not the best production of it but still really good. Also an EO day, but we ate at a family style place so it was pretty reasonable, especially for the Times Square area.
QOTW: It depends on what the product is. Generic half and half, butter, pasta, sure. But my OJ, mac n cheese, potato chips have to be the brands I like. But I'm always willing to try a generic! Especially canned goods that I use in recipes. Once it's mixed you can't tell.
Dakota - good to know about the magic erasers! I was thinking of getting generic.
sheila - hugs. your brother is an idiot. I'm so sorry he's sowed this distrust and dislike for so long. I hope that it's not too late to fix at some point.
start - congrats on your success!
mrslynch - congrats on your writing career taking off!
layoffs seem to be in the air. One of our good friends was laid off wednesday. He's been job hunting since January and had several interviews that went nowhere, so he's feeling a bit despondent. I really hope he finds something before severance runs out. and that all of you looking find something too!
sheila - good luck to DH!
mid - great post!

Well, today is officially "D" day for the others who were laid off last week. However I am the only one still at my desk working and not spending hours either kvetching with co-workers or being in a snit. It feels weird - but also good in a way. This afternoon I have my first meeting with the Transitional Placement counselor / service that the company is paying for as part of my severance package. I must confess to being a "little" nervous actually - and not really sure why. mrslynch - Congratulations for reaching another great place with your blog. Does this mean I can become rich and famous too by being a guest blogger? :-) sheila - Glad to see that things are moving ahead in a positive direction for your DH and the job search. 3cats - I sure hope you are feeling better. reenee - Cute pattern. I think we had a similar one only in all gold up at the Cabin when I was a kid. If you had not already checked out these sites for buying orphan pieces here are some ideas. Each will let you place a standing search term into the system and will send you e-mail updates if/when they get something you are looking for into inventory: www.replacements.com/webquote/N__5548.htmwww.1stopretroshop.com/Noritake-china/Noritake-china.htmwww.shopgoodwill.com/midwestern - Hope you were able to get your tetanus shot yesterday. That is definitely not something you want to mess around with. AND great job on the article. I really liked the analogies. mittenkitten - I was laughing as I read of your half naked driving! ... I did something similar last summer. It was SO hot I jumped into the local river full dressed. Then had to strip off in the parking lot before I could drive home wearing just my undies and wrapped in a green plastic tarp from the trunk. shanendoah - Sorry to hear Junebug is not feeling well again. But I am glad you are happy with the new vet. startsmart - OUCH for being bitten by a dreaming pup but great news about the interview and new opportunity. You DO know you and I will be spending some time discussing this work when you are visiting right? AND .... Happy Birthday

Still at 7/20 NSD Yesterday was a spend day. We went to the Humane Society's garage sale and spent $23 on some things that had been on our "list". An antique sled, a fondue pot, and some books. Good prices and for a good cause. Of course our dinner at our favorite sushi restaurant (in the same area as the garage sale) was just purely a splurge DH is still in interview limbo. They haven't called to set a time yet but he did bring interview clothes with him to work and has fresh copies of his resume packet. It has his resume, references and training/course listings. He career is very "training" heavy so they like to see what certifications and training that he has. Red: Hope you and Blue have a blast on your vacation. Were you able to find those books? I should have been more on the ball- I have half a dozen of them at home I could have mailed you but it's too late now. Startsmart: Happy Birthday #cake# #cake# #cake#

Ohhh- I read the Hunger Games books a few weeks ago. I liked them. The second one is the weakest one in the triology but still enjoyable. Curious to see the movie of the first book when it comes out next year.

Someone asked about doing Xmas Cards this year. So here are two questions:
Who is interested in Xmas Cards?
Who is interested in Secret Santa?
Last year these people signed up for Xmas cards: 3cats, dakota, Gin, Honey, kcgal, moneysquirrel, MittenKitten, redwagon, reenee, SES, Shanen, Sheila, Singlemom, spruby, and startsmart
Last year these people signed up for Secret Santa: 3cats, dakota, Honey, kcgal, moneysquirrel, reenee, shanen, Sheila, and spruby

MK- I would be interested in both this year. I especially love getting the cards from everyone. Cracks DH and DS up because if the card comes from outside of MN they automatically it's "one of the WIR ladies" ;D
DH has his interveiw at 3:30 this afternoon. So nervous for him. He interviews really well but I think he is pinning a lot of hopes on this so I hope it works out ok.
