DAMMIT! I thought 24 hours cold turkey from Doxie would be sufficient while I was in the air. It's not.

Don't beat yourself up over it! I just consider it part of the "board experience". ;D

Doxie is our pet troll. It's cheaper than getting another RL pet.

I learned my lesson. I posted the first post after the OP. You know when the thread goes past 10 it's not worth it!

I wanted to keep the EE troll from Kentucky who was in love with her father in law, but I guess Doxie will have to do.

That was no troll. That was a former poster who came back under another nick. And got nicked for doing so.

Me 4. I have not done any actual work at the office for the past 2 days. I am mesmerized by the thread. Something keeps pulling me into it. I really have to close all my browser sessions today and get to do work that I am paid for.

Doxie is our pet troll. It's cheaper than getting another RL pet. and you don't have to clean up after it, it doesn't shed in my house, it doesn't need to be let out, and and and... I love to do this and while I read her posts. Very amusing. Can we keep her please? PLEEEEEAZE

Actually, Doxie serves a very useful purpose around here troll or not (Although sometimes I worry she's actually a social scientist running a RL scenarios to see how long she can go before someone explodes.)
I think a last count we had three people running their budgets for the first time. A couple of people going back to couponing.
Doxie is an "horrible example."
Everybody needs one.

I have seen a lot of references to Doxie. Who is she, and why do so many people poke fun at her?

I have seen a lot of references to Doxie. Who is she, and why do so many people poke fun at her? If you're not joking, go to YM. Look for the thread with 80+ pages. Doxie needs someone to tell the rest of us we're being mean to her, so if you're up for it, you should certainly start reading. And don't worry, you can stop at any time.

No, but Firebird did.
Does anyone have the link for Firebird's summary?
(I'm afraid to go back in)
ETA - doesn't seem to be Firebird but someone did a very classic summary somewhere around page 50-60.
I tried to search on it and got the search request booted to proboards support - so event the search engine is overwhelmed.
Basically.
Someone named Doxie wants help and posts her budget. (I think this is the 7th or 8th time she's looked for help)
Everyone else - especially people who haven't read a thread of hers before - post suggestions.
She explains why all of their suggestions up to & including bankruptcy or getting a new job or cutting spending are impossible, unreasonable and unhelpful but she really wants to change.
She gives her own strategies which don't jibe with anything in reality. I'm not talking about debating whether to coupon or not, or paying off the mortage or not - I'm talking about solutions that DO NOT FIT what anyone else understands about mortgages, child support, car loans, credit scores, etc.
And then being good YMers, we take it from there.
To the tune of 88 or 89 pages in about a week (at last count)
You have to imagine one of those old fashioned, multigenerational soap operas to get the scope of this. There are Italian operas with less complicated plots.
But (and this is the part I can't explain and I imagine Mich can't either) it's really really hard to let it go.
You have to read it to believe it.

To understand a little bit of why our heads are exploding, here is some Doxie math:
If your goal is to get out of debt, and you're already running in the red every month, the logical next step is to allow your ex-h to relinquish his rights and cease his $500/month CS payment.
If you charge something on a CC, it doesn't count as "debt" until you pay it.
Pets are classified under "utilities" in her pie chart.
When asked what she's cutting from her budget, she answers "vacations"... ignoring the issue that there is no "vacations" line item in the budget.
Won't declare bankruptcy, won't move, won't sell any of her 3 vehicles, won't get rid of her phone contract, won't stop eating Panera for lunch - but thinks she can pay off a year's salary in CC/car debt in 18 months. If you tell her this is mathematically impossible, she replies that your math is obviously wrong.
Writing this out... guys, she can't be for real. Can she?

Writing this out... guys, she can't be for real. Can she? I would say not. But I also would have said that I'd stop reading the thread around page 20 and instead of that I had to cut myself off in the 60's. And I'm not sure I'm not going to go back in over the weekend. But what I can't figure out is why? Cause usually if it's a troll, I can let it go.

This has got to be a psych experiment designed to see exactly how many of us respond to helpless without exploding.

I think the only reason I never got sucked in is because she's got nothing on my youngest 1/2 brother. He's already had two bankruptcies and it's never his fault. He's 46 without a penny in retirement and just married for the 4th time - and this isn't even a small portion to his story. I'm immune!

You have to read it to believe it. psst - wrong (former) mod. nice summary overall, though. MDW, Doxie is absolutely maddening. I encourage you to read through all 80+ pages, or wherever we are at this point. you'll see what has made us all search for a hard, flat surface on which to bang our heads in futility. having had similar thoughts as WWBG (re: the autism spectrum) I feel a little bit of pity, but have to fall back on my experiences with adolescents at various points along the spectrum - when you blatantly call them out on their BS, they at the minimum will acknowledge it. Doxie has so completely ignored anyone remotely negative that she leads me to believe she's totally functional......not necessarily sane OR responsible, though.

I stopped at 73 pages this morning since I had to go do my actual job (instead of moving my mouse like Doxie suggested) and I come back to almost 20 more pages. It's like watching an accident happen. I feel sorry for her because she thinks that she can handle it and I can't stop reading her threads.
