Life, as I know (and like it) has now changed. The students are now back on campus and getting around is an absolute mess. I had the bad idea (well, it didn't seem like a bad idea at 11 this morning) to off campus for lunch. Once we got off campus, we couldn't get back on.....so I went home.

I met with our new client. They unfortunately appeared to like m (this project is not going to be fun). Their regional manager is a classmate of mine, her stories about me apparently weren't enough to make them avoid me.
Drat.

Mich would love it if the students were all taken one morning by aliens.

LOL! Would she still have her job without them? Have her make them EEers so we can sacrifice them. (per Spydah's thread if you don't know what I'm talking about.)

I've pointed that out. But students, for the most part, are the bane of Mich's life.
The irony is of course that in working at a University, students are pretty much a given.

For every good job there seems to be some catch.

Directly, yes. Indirectly no.
My dealings with students only goes as far as when they go to my PI and want to suck up to him (in order to get something) and offer to do research. But I do not formally have to teach the little darlings. I will admit, there are some students that I actually do enjoy working with. But for the most part, they are willing to push their work off on me in order to get the abstract and paper to enhance their chances into getting into dental school or one of the dental school's specialty programs.
However, my boss does. So if he didn't have his job of teaching them, I'd not have my job in research.
Make sense?

Um, the guys who put the roof on my Mom's place didn't seem to know any English. Should I ask them?

Even if you do like the students, the first week is truly dreadful. Move in time is absolute chaos. No one knows where they are going. It's better once mom & dad go home, all of the carts of junk are in the dorms and the freshmen more or less have their books and their bearings.

True. Friday, there were university cops at every intersection blocking traffic so that cars could park to unload crap. The problem was, those intersections were those that were necessary to get to the parking garages/buildings for employees.
Once they get their bearings, then they start walking around the campus totally oblivious to anyone else. If they have a bike, they mow down pedestrians. If they have a car, they're texting and driving. If they walk, they text and walk and walk into the street without looking.
How long until May?

If it wasn't for all these students, this eduction gig would be a great job! OK, I can understand your frustration with dealing with literally thousands of self centered teenagers flooding campus. Oblivious to everything going on around them. At one time I lived in an area with a large seasonal tourist business. It can get frustrating to follow someone sight seeing at 15 miles an hour on the only road between two towns that winds and twists for 30 miles. But the up side is that coming around a blind corner at 60 to find on-coming traffic and someone stopped in your lane of the two lane, shoulder-less road taking pictures is kind of exciting. It tends to hone your deceleration technique.
