"Why not ask some of those on food stamps or waiting for their unemployment checks how they feel about our congress and administration being on vacation and what about the photos of Obama vacationing on Martha's Vineyard while they worry about their next meal...." But most of you don't even LIKE those people. They're lazy. They're bad parents. They breed too much. They're addicts. They're looters. They have a sense of entitlement and just don't want to work. Now you're worried about how they feel? Give me a break. "Most of you". Who are you referring to weltschmerz It seems like almost everyone is getting money from the government these days. But of course all of these government handouts are also creating a huge problem. It is called debt. We have piled up the biggest mountain of debt in the history of the world and there is no possible way that we are ever going to be able to pay it off. In fact, this crushing debt load will almost certainly destroy the U.S. economy. But the tens of millions of Americans that are getting handouts from the government each month do not want to give them up. In fact, it is those handouts that are keeping many of them off the streets. Millions of Americans are finding it really hard to make it these days - especially the millions of Americans that don't have jobs.

"In case you missed it this is not the right time for congress and the president to be on vacation."
Now is not the time, what with the pirates and all! Now is not the time, there's a drought. Now is not the time, there's flooding. Now is not the time, there are too many unanswered questions about Osama's death. Now is not the time, there's umemployment. Now is not the time, there are bodies coming home from the Middle East. Now is not the time, with our involvement in Libya. Now is not the time, look what's happening in Syria. Now is not the time, with rising gas prices. Now is not the time, with forest fires burning out of control. Now is not the time, with people losing their homes. Now is not the time, with tornadoes in Missouri etc, etc, etc.
I keep asking...when would have been a good time? Pick a date, any date, during his presidency, and I'll show you a crisis that people would be bitching about . "NOW IS NOT THE TIME!"

How about next week?? 15 - 22 August it should be an interesting one to say the least.. And it could be a good time to move on Liberals which is being discussed on another thread.
weltschmerz ...again who are you refering to in this comment by you?

"How about next week?? "
You know I meant in the past. Every single time he took some time off, people howled about it.
"again who are you refering to in this comment by you?"
Oh nobody. Nobody at all. No one has even remotely suggested anything like it. Ever.

So is that a good time or not??

Good grief! Are you serious, or just busting my ....fallopian tubes? Btw I don't mean this in a derogatory way but you remind me a lot of Debbie Wasserman Schultz who is a passionate liberal and very, very feisty and tough.... I was just watching Ms Shultz on MSNBC while trying to respond to your comments again... again maybe that is a hidden compliment..

I'm not really sure who that is, as we don't get her up here, but thank you very much. I think.

It is called debt."
Are you collecting a military pension? If you are, how about giving it up and saving taxpayers and the government some money...I guess??

It's just a dumb blanket statement. k to you PI....

I would think most here would be too embarassed or have too much pride to make that demeaning comment about 40 million of our fellow ciitizens who are on food stamps...and of course 17 million of our fellow citizens who are unemployed...while Obama goes to Martha's Vineyard instead of calling congress back from vacation to come up with some plans to avert an economic collapse

That is so wrong too. My brother served 21 years in the USAF and flew helicopters and awarded with many medals for honorary service. He is a senior now and lives in the veterans home in DC. It is one room and rent is high. The Military pay is such a small portion of the fiscal budget and is well deserved for dedicating your service to protect America. For anyone to deny Military pay is just morally wrong.

There are some discussions going on in the Pentagon that may change military pay and pensions/medical care but I have not seen the specifics yet....they are talking about some drastic cuts for the military so we will have to wait and see what happens....but there is some concern by the retired military guys who I meet with each day at Starbucks for our morning status meetings.. Or "Bitching Sessions"..

But if P.I. believes the country is going broke, let him give his pension back to the people. Or is take away everyone else's money but 'mine'.

So I guess you wouldn't mind having the government take a little extra out of your paycheck so these folks could have healthcare?

Well, I see it just about every single time I log onto this forum. Threads about drug testing for welfare benefits and so on. If you haven't seen it here you are blind. That it what Weltz was talking about.

Democratic strategist Robert Shrum, an Obama admirer, said that, Martha's Vineyard or not, there's little the president can do to avoid a political cost of some sort. “Whether he's there or not, he'll get grief for it,” Shrum predicted, noting that August has long been a problematic month politically for Obama — whether it was 2007 and he was trailing far behind Hillary Clinton, 2008, when Sarah Palin was helping John McCain in the polls, or 2009, when the Tea Party exploded on the scene. “Symbolic communication is very important,” Shrum added, echoing Scarborough. “The president is our chief symbolist in difficult moments, and this is the difficult month for him and it always has been, ironically.” Shrum said Obama should consider taking the urgent advice of some to summon Congress back to Washington for an emergency August session to haggle over the economy and deficit reduction. “He shouldn't be ceding the month, but the question they would have to answer is whether or not they have substantive things they could do. They could call back Congress and present a program, and even if it didn't pass, it would make clear to the American people that he was trying to fight for jobs. The Congress and the president shouldn't be on vacation while tens of millions of Americans are on forced vacations in the form of unemployment powerwall.msnbc.msn.com/politics/does-obama-deserve-a-vacation-1698200.storynot much to argue with, here. i think he is basically right.

Oh, please, why should he or others that have served this country as many put their lives on the line at any given time, and the small monetary pay for that will never be enough.
