So far more than $35 million has been spent on the recall races, according to the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, which tracks political money. The spending on the nine races dwarfs the $19.3 million spent in last year's 115 legislative races, and approaches the $37.4 million spent in the race for governor.

The flow of money came as unions saw the recall elections as the best way to halt Walker's agenda and to send a message to other states considering changing their collective bargaining laws. Political observers are watching Wisconsin to see what the results say about the mood of the electorate leading up to next year's elections for president and Congress.

It's funny watching the main stream media just give a few seconds of airtime to relate this story, too...if the Democrats had taken more seats, you know it would have been a major headline of the day and the MSM would have been bringing on expert after expert asking how this will affect the Tea Party, and Republicans, etc, etc. But since the Dems didn't get enough seats to make a difference its just a few second sound byte. Oh, but the MSM isn't biased or anything...

To me the stupidest thing is they had a recall of GOP this week and next week a recall of 2 dems, why the bloody hell couldn't it be done in one day? Money flowing out left and right.

1. Main Election
2. GOP recall
3. Dem recall.

All three of these cost money for polling workers, security etc. Had both recalls been done at the same time they could have saved a little more money.

If you check out the local newspaper websites you will see that question asked multiple times as well. No one understands it. So the government keeps wasting more money but then they wonder why the Tea Party has such an outspoken base...

Democrat huffing and puffing notwithstanding, the GOP did just fine in Wisconsin holding 4 of 6 State Senate seats up.

An acquaintance of mine, Democrat Thomas Castillo of IL had been blathering all week about how "angry" Wisconsin voters were with the GOP and how at their first opportunity this week to give them what-for, they were gonna do just that.

As recently as yesterday on his facebook page, Tom was saying it looks like Dems were going to take 4 of the 6 seats up.

Well, they took 2- and just barely.

Sorry, Tom. Sorry Dems. Wisconsin wasn't the turning point in the battle you had hoped for. But it was a turning point. Buckle up, libs. You failed. And without the money, the whole liberal machine is coming apart...

I think Democrats would likely have done better were it not for their antics in causing the political standoff over the teacher's unions. Standing with unions and against the people cost them dearly.

Not only that, but since they only took two seats, and there are two Dem seats up for recall, we could end up right back where we started!

I don't think losing two out of six is insignificant at all in a recall- if WI was with the Republicans they should have kept all of the seats. Regardless, I would be a lot more interested in a recall of Walker where the whole state can speak up and not just a few counties.

I hope they do get rid of that incompetent lady in Wakehsomething county- twice she has managed to stir up controversy- I think both sides would agree that elections need to run smooth and not have even the appearance of impropriety.

As was stated earlier, you need to wait to make a judgment, until the recall of the 2 Dem's are finished. Right now you have Repub's with a loss of 33% (2/6) that were replaced, next week if 1 Dem gets replaced you get a 50% loss for Dem's (1/2). No matter what happens you will still have a complete Republican controlled assembly and statehouse.

We will have to wait and see if Walker will be recalled. His opposition can not begin collecting signatures until Jan 2012.

Not making any judgement- I know nothing of the demographics of WI districts. I was just saying that if a 33% turnover of Republican seats happened on a statewide basis it would be quite significant. If they manage to flip a Democrat seat I would consider that significant as well. Keeping a seat already won-not so much. In other words I don't see a 4 seat victory, I see a 2 seat loss.

I saw a 33% sucess rate for the Democrats and a 33% failure rate for the Republicans as it was a recall, not a normal election. If the WI voters haven't had a change of heart nothing would have changed. Let's wait and see what happens to the Democrat seats- same rules apply. I am sure if they flip one Democrat they will call it a victory- think they won't?

So for you it is othing more than party politics.

I could care less, if I even cared. I do not live in Wi so there politics do not really register. I just find it funny people want to jump on a win no matter what, even when it's not a win.

Everything is party politics these days. But I still call it a win- the Democrats gained 2 seats- what did the Republicans win? Right- they lost 2 seats. Usually when one side loses net seats it is referred to as a loss. We'll see if Walker comes up for recall what WI really thinks.

Just to point out the Packers loss wasn't their fault. They would have won the Super Bowl if it hadn't been for the Tea Party.

I don't think any Dems should be joyous about the Repubs losing only two seats in Wisconsin. The loss of only two of the six recall votes keeps the Senate in Repub. control. That is what this was all about. The WI Senate is now, after the recall elections, Repubs = 17, Dems = 16.

The intent was for the Dems to take control of the Senate and then to repeal some of the recently passed legislation that caused such a ruckus a while back. So, the legislation will not be challenged and / or repealed.

The unions were the losers I agree with. They spent millions and still came up short. I wonder how much all that money spent comes out to cost per vote.
With two Democrats on recall next week I wonder if the unions will spend big bucks trying to save their jobs.
This recall thing will tell other states the unions do not have the clout they once had.
