That said, this is a good example of liberals not walking their talk and that they should hold their tongues before casting aspersions on others. In all fairness, the only one that seems to have a problem with this particular rental agreement, on this thread anyway, is a registered democrat.

The vice president's already been paid $13,200 so far this year and the contract looks to pay him $66,000 into 2013. We are learning about this sweetheart arrangement now because eagle-eyed Jim McElhatton over at the Washington Times noticed a Joseph R. Biden listed as a vendor on a federal purchase order. And the reporter wondered if this was the same guy who's so vociferously denounced government waste and no-bid contracts over the years. The same Democrat who in June helped launch an Obama administration anti-waste campaign by saying: "The President and I are committed to changing the way government works and we are stepping up the hunt for misspent dollars." In addition to the free Washington house and Secret Service transportation everywhere, the vice president gets those free weekly lunches with Obama at the White House. Biden's only paid $230,700 a year by taxpayers, plus $10G's in entertainment expenses. And last year the Bidens reported $130,000 or so in other income, including $11,000 from the rental. When McElhatton asked the Secret Service if it normally pays rent to the people it protects, the agent didn't answer it this way: "It’s a rental property, so we pay rent there.”

No. Normally the people we're charged to protect don't own rental property next door to their main residence either."

Biden has to be one of the worse Vice Presidents since Spiro Agnew in the Nixon Administration....he was supposed to be working the deficit reduction plans with the big four in congress, Boehner, McConnell, Reid and Pelosi and that group got nowhere in six months of meetings.. But thanx to a Washington Times newspaper reporter who discovered this rental issue with Biden we now know that he is all talk and no substance.. I will be curious to find out what Biden has to say about this latest controversy .??

I don't think that anyone could argue that Biden is up there with those vice presidents of yesteryear who accomplished great things like Vice President ...., uhmmmm like Vice President ...... (someone help me out here, I am drawing a blank about which VP's in American History accomplished great things).

I will be curious to find out what Biden has to say about this latest controversy .?? What rental issue? Re-reading the opening article, the SS is paying for a rental to protect our nations VP...the landlord is of no consequence. The SS is also paying the exact same rent as the previous tenant. IMHO, there is no controversy. Our nation's VP has every right to earn a return on his rental property same as any other landlord. Sure, it would be a damned nice gesture to at least discount the rent, but as a property owner looking for a decent ROI, he is under no obligation to do so.

Found a fun quiz: How many vice presidents went on to become president How many sitting presidents died or were forced from office? How many vice presidents shot men while in office? Who was the better shot? Who was the first vice president to assume power when a president died? Why did he return official letters without reading them? What vice president was almost torn limb form limb in Venezuela? Which former VP was tried for treason for trying to start his own empire in the Southwest? How many vice presidents were assassinated?

Hmm.
I can count 12 VPs who went on to become president. I'll bet I'm missing some, though. I can count 7 presidents who died, or were forced from office. Two. Hee! Gotta be Aaron Burr, since Cheney supposedly shot his by accident. No clue. No clue. Nixon. Aaron Burr. I can't think of any VPs who were assassinated.

The taxpayers provide protection at no cost to these politicians (Bill Clinton is also a landlord to the Secret Service) and they get to collect rent from them. Try that with a private protection service. These are really truly disgusting scams.

IMHO, If the SS is going to rent in the area anyway and the price is fair, it makes no difference who the landlord is.

The agency says it is a unique situation. "We don't pay rent to any other protectees," Donovan told The Ticket, but he added that the agency had wanted to be in close proximity to the vice president's house. Officials had been renting other properties in the area when Biden's cottage tenant moved out. So, the Secret Service reached out.
"The cottage was an existing rental property at the time the Secret Service signed its lease," Kendra Barkoff, press secretary for the vice president, informed the newspaper and wrote in an email to The Ticket. IMHO, that is key right there. The Secret Service was currently renting in the area, the property was already an existing rental that came available and the Secret Service reached out to Biden, not the other way around. As long as the rent is in-line with other similar properties in the area, I don't have a problem with it. Biden should be able to make money on his investment property just like any other citizen in this country. And pay the appropriate taxes for the rental income.

I can't think of any VPs who were assassinated. mmhmm...because one above said the VP s a non entity as far as his contributions ..does not make it so. From what i can get from media reports he, Biden, is a very active VP, in on most , if not all , decisions and discussions of importance as well as his traveling from here to there on different missions sent by the POTUS. That so many of those complaining have never had a good thing to say about our sitting POTUS , from before he assumed office by the way, self admitted, one can't expect anything else when it comes to the VP. Actually another one who was thought as a excellent VP was Gore..very active, very involved..but then there was this election and we ..mmm, boy that one still smarts, yet I am sure some will come and say what we got was better then what we would have had..not in my book, but does that mean I am correct because of my thoughts on the matter? Don't think so, just another no body with his own ideas on the topic , same as all here..we all just yadda , yadda..and usually never change our tune no matter what is presented by the other side..and we expect those elected to act differently? You all got to be kidding. The truth of the matter is , we all , me included, are full of it on the yadda's..for the most part, more interested in posting our ideas of how the world turns then actually listening and observing what other, unless on the same wave length, then come the cudo's and awards, have to say. The naysaying of others ideas are foaming away , words at the tip of their/our tongue, actualy finger tips, just waiting to hit "post ' before the opposition has finished typing and hitting "Post " themselves, no thought rarly given to those opposing ideas....that is a truism..and I am sorry to say not a IMHO..just the way it is.
