We don't want cuts in SS, Medicare and Veterans Pay. We want to reverse his 800 billion ObamaCare bill, as the docors are against it too. Geez, there are plenty of other things to cut besides leaving the seniors and veterans out in the cold.

If the Gop hadn't won the House, it would have been the same business as usual, and more debt-ceiling increases. What the hell was wrong with Cut, Cap and Balance? why do you keep asking that? the balance part demanded no new tax cuts. the cap part demanded 18%, which is about AVERAGE for budgets since WW2. neither of those are acceptable to Obama.

Will not ask that again. I don't think all of our brainstorming will resolve anything either.

Ahhhhh, you're welcome. I know you spend a lot of time on here and you're a pretty smart guy, even though we don't agree all of the time. That's ok, it's called a good debate.

I get mostly upset about the Veterans as my brother served in the USAF for 21 years and now resides in DC. It is not free by any means, as I heard from his ex-girlfriend that he only had one room and it is not cheap. I think our veterans and military should be top priority in getting their money.

This has gotten crazy. It looks more and more like a default is in the wind. I can understand why Obama is holding out for a longer term for the debt limit till after the election. But I am sure it will not help his reelection. What would help him is to get behind the cut, cap and balance. He would be seen in a much better light with voters. But I guess he does not understand that.

We're spending 400 billion a day and having NO economic growth.
You sure about that number? The annual budget is $3.8 trillion which we would reach in less than 10 days at $400 billion/day.
What the hell was wrong with Cut, Cap and Balance?
Well the Cut portion doesn't define what will actually be cut, it just calls for cuts of something like $110 billion from the 2012 budget. It also says that if congress and the white house can't agree on cuts and across the board percentage cut will go into effect. That would include SS, Medicare and defense along with all discretionary spending.
Cap spending at 18% of GDP is about 2% below the average spend since the late 60's and even if we could that would leave a deficit of about 3-4% per year.
Balanced budget - Balancing the budget isn't a problem as long as tax revenue can be raised to cover the deficit. Unfortunately CC&B specifies that raising taxes would require a 2/3 vote in congress. If you make it that difficult to pass a tax increase the 3-4% deficit will be paid for by borrowing, increasing the debt. None of this specifies how to deal with SS, government pensions, medicare and defense. None of this positions the US to maintain a leadership position in the world or makes our kids competitive in world markets. All CC&B does is relieves congress and the president of their responsibility to lead the nation and make decisions.

Ok but now the ball is in Harry Reid's court and he has to have a bill on Obama's desk by next Tuesday if you believe all of the fear mongering going on lately. He also will need Nancy Pelosi to get her progressives and liberals in the House to vote for his bill as you know..... Reid's bill won't pass. i think the only way out is a clean debt bill with some promise to debate a BBA. I think that is how it should have been from the get go.
