Not sure if this is the correct place for this, but since Nancy posts things that stupid people do in FL, I thought I woud share this.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday and charged in connection with an armed robbery last week during which six pit bull puppies stolen.
Last Thursday, a man told sheriff’s deputies he was robbed at gunpoint in Reddick while attempting to sell the blue nose pit bull pups. He said the suspect pointed a handgun at his head and took the puppies, $20 in cash, a $600 cellphone and a food stamp card.

A $600 cell phone and I'm sure the dogs are very well fed. I could rant on this for a while...

In this age of two year contracts and "free" phones, are there $600 cell phones and if so what are they?

Toughttimes, the kid who was robbed stole the puppies not the parents. He probably never fed the pups and just wanted to sell them as fast as he could.

It takes plenty of money to breed and care for pure-bred dogs too. Six dogs eat quite a bit, not to mention their parents. I work with a guy who used to be a social worker--he had to get out of it. He said the majority of the houses he went to had big, well fed dogs, reeked of cigarette smoke, and the kids were hungry and dirty. I see a lot of people use their foodstamp card for a few groceries and then pull cash for the big bags of dogfood. All kinds of messed up.

I posted this on another thread, but it fits nicely right here.
I run an ad hoc pit rescue...word of mouth only, and for the most desperate of cases. Many had been abused, but in the end, they want the same things as any other dog. A little food in their bellies and plenty of love. I've never really had a problem with any of them; they were desperate to please. The only scare I had came on one beautiful spring day. I was pruning rosebushes in my yard with Xena by my side. Why they called her Xena escapes me...she was more Hello Kitty than Warrior Princess. I realized that Xena was no longer in the yard, and when I called her, she came loping in from the street with a CRUTCH IN HER MOUTH. My heart sank, this couldn't possibly be good. "Drop it! What did you do?' She looked perplexed. "What? It's a stick. I'm allowed to play with sticks." Oh God, Oh God, Oh God.....I raced out into the street with visions of lawsuits dancing through my head. I expected to find a crippled and irate senior citizen lying in the road, maybe in the throes of a cardiac event. Instead, it was a young man, leaning on his remaining crutch and laughing his head off. Except for the chewed spongy bits at the end of the crutch, no harm was done. That was the only problem I ever had with any of my rescue babies.

He did admit that he was 'concerned' when he saw a giant brindle pit lunging at him, but it became apparent pretty quickly that she just wanted the coolest stick in the world, and he had two of them

LMAO, weltz! Having a part-pit I can totally see that! My girl was a shelter baby, found as a stray. The local animal shelter refuses to take pits most of the time so people bring them to the neighboring county. I really, really wish people would be more responsible with their animals, it breaks my heart.

It breaks my heart as well, apple. That's why I do it. Xena was living in a shower stall with another pit when she was rescued.

:'(That is so sad. I'd be willing to bet that the man selling the puppies was selling them as fighting dogs. We have a lot of that going on around her. Very sad.

I think it's more likely the kid who did the robbery was going to sell the pups as fighting dogs.

My neighbors got their disability today (they are not disabled). They went out for brunch, bought each other anniversary presents and went to a bar & got drunk. They did not buy groceries, cat food, or meds. for their extreme flea infestation. I know this because when they got home with their bottle of vodka they told me all about their wonderful day. And also how they wouldn't have food for the next month.

Cute story, Welts. I can so picture that entire scene. ;D
Both our shepherds were rescued.... first one from an ice flow that was heading into Boston harbor. The second from being euthanized after supposedly killing a coop full of chickens. She 'played' with them and I assume they died of fright. Both were wonderful pets that and I miss them dearly.

I think it's more likely the kid who did the robbery was going to sell the pups as fighting dogs. The kid was certainly going to sell them for fight training, he was just trying to make a quick buck. But the area where they where being sold at the beginning is notorious for these types of sales. So in my mind, they were being bred and sold for this purpose.

I did report them to the property management company as the fleas have now moved downstairs and I have to treat my senior dog.
