more info as news.yahoo.com/explosion-rocks-central-oslo--norway-pm-office-134903379.hmtl unconfirmed reports of 20 shot at youth camp at time of bombing. No confirmed link yet but it is said attack is similar to a botched attack in Sweden some months ago. Norway, Sweden and Denmark have all been threatened by extremists. Some thoughts maybe a strike back in revenge for Bin Laden being taken out?

I just saw a clip that said an arrest was made in the shooting incident. The person is apparently a Norwegian national, and the youth camp was put on by the Labor Party. The Prime Minister was scheduled to speak there tomorrow.

Norway has also been involved in the Libyan conflict. Hard to say what prompted this attack. One could consider the possibility that Norway was chosen because it's thought of as an easy target. They don't expect this sort of thing so would be expected to be less prepared than some other countries.

Interesting, Wiccan. I hadn't read that. We might find out this is a home-grown problem as opposed to some sort of international terrorist attack.

more breaking news on Yahoo says police indicate the two incidents are related with a shooting suspect in custody. Still more discussion about possible extremist connection here.

further updates from Antenna Bayern (antenneBayern.de) indicate at least 17 dead, It reports the Norwegian paper Dagblatt reporting online that they have reports that the attack in the government section was directed at the Oil and Energiy Ministry complex. Reports also that there were over 500 young people at the youth camp and that many jumped into the water to get away from the gunman, but were shot while in the water.

It's looking like it wasn't "muslims, of course" at all. Looks like this fellow was a right-wing Christian with a home-grown axe to grind.

At this time authorities believe that the bombing and massacre are similar to the Oklahoma City bombing here and that the perpetrator is [are] local extremists. Someone armed with a knife was arrested today near a sensitive area so there may be more than one involved ~ but not necessarily. Apparently the perpetrator purchased several tons of fertilizer recently and was dressed and armed as a policeman during the massacre. At any rate, it appears that there is no connection here with Islamist extremists, but I'm sure that more detail will be forthcoming. I suspect that the perpetrator will be treated humanely and capital punishment will not even be considered. It'll be interesting to see how the Norwegians deal with this. It could be instructive.

It's looking like it wasn't "muslims, of course" at all. Looks like this fellow was a right-wing Christian with a home-grown axe to grind. Looks like it had nothing to do with Mulims , as you said, not foreign terrorist..just the home grown nut..so many children killed, unimaginable. -------------------------------------- www.debka.com/article/21142/------------------------------ {Click on link to read article} ------------------------------ A Norwegian nationalist vegetable-grower suspected of 92 deaths – 85 of them teenagers - in two terrorist attacks DEBKAfile Special Report July 23, 2011, 5:19 AM (GMT+02:00) "Behring Breivik, 32, a grower of vegetables, melons, roots and tubers, described as a "Conservative nationalist" is in Norwegian policy custody, accused of - first bombing government buildings in central Oslo and killing seven people, including almost Prime Minister Jen Stoltenberg Friday, July 22, then 90 minutes later opening automatic fire on a youth camp sponsored by the ruling Labor party on the island of Utoya, 38 kilometers away. There, he murdered 85 of the 560 teens aged 15-16 at the camp. When he started shooting with an automatic weapon, some of the children died on the spot, many jumped into the water. Their bodies were later recovered. The tall, blonde Breivik was captured on the island, still clad in police uniform, after perpetrating a multiple al-Qaeda-style terrorist crime – possibly singlehanded, the first in Norway's history. Police are trying to find out how he came to his horrendous crimes and determine whether he acted alone."

There was nothing "Christian" about it. He might have thought he was a Christian, but obviously, not one. I can say "I am a Muslim", but that does not make me one.

Norwegian police searched for more victims and a possible second gunman on Saturday after a suspected right-wing zealot killed at least 92 people in a shooting spree and bomb attack that have traumatized a once-placid country. The 32-year-old Norwegian named Anders Behring Breivik was arrested after Friday's massacre of teens on a tiny forested holiday island that was hosting the annual summer camp for the youth wing of Norway's ruling Labor party. Breivik was also charged for the bombing of Oslo's government district that killed seven people hours earlier. If convicted on the terrorism charges, he would face a maximum of 21 years in jail, police said. www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43854355/ns/world_news-europe/?GT1=43001
