BRIARCLIFF MANOR — Mount Pleasant police ordered state highway workers to reopen one lane of traffic in each direction on Route 9A after workers closed the road down completely this morning to replace guardrails, causing havoc and backing up traffic for miles.

Mount Pleasant police deemed it a public health and safety issue given the scorching heat and told state workers to reopen some of the busy roadway.

“There was a 3-mile backup. Cars did not move and there were campers on a school bus,” said Mount Pleasant Police Sgt. Paul Oliva.

I guess that is why our state has lane closure schedules & can't close lanes if it is going to cause too much delay (except in cases of emergency). That would suck to be stuck in traffic like that. Extremely poor planning by DOT.
