Wasn't Orlando Bosch, the convicted right wing terrorist that blew up a civilian airplane, killing all 73 aboard sort of a folk hero in Broward County,Fl?

Sorry, my point in response to that song from the heady days when God was dead, the Soviet Union was on the march around the world, and the hippie movement started and was heavily influenced by the KGB and other enemies of the United States was in full bloom all dressed up in a new, phony baloney "love" without God-- and so false teachers sprang up and easily deceived thousands of people...

In Texas heaven is a good air conditioner. Amen to that. Ours has been having trouble keeping up lately. We have it set at 76 and it hits 80 around 5:00 each day. This heat wave has been brutal. Water bill was just the highest it's ever been. I don't think the veggies I'm pulling from my garden are quite worth what I'm investing in them in sweat and water these days... Last year my monthly summer electric bill ran in the $400 range with one month just over $500. My thermostat for both units is set at 80. This year so far it’s about half that much I switched company and get a better rate. Monthly water/sewer this summer is $105. I assume this month both will be higher.

I don't take vacations anymore, but it's nothing to do with the economy. Mother is no longer able to travel. It's that simple. My priorities are with her, not on vacations. If I had young children, I'd be taking them as many places as I could as I feel it's important for them to learn as much as they can about other places, and other cultures. I certainly am not going to complain about anyone who is able to take vacations and does.

The few hippies that I knew are now retired from lucrative businesses and are staunch conservatives. I was a buttoned-down suit conservative that is now progressive.

Heh. Yeah, txbo, I know a few of those myself ... some old friends from "back in the day". I've gone rather moderate but still tend to lean a bit left, particularly socially. It was an interesting time, and per the old Chinese proverb (to be related to enemies) - "May you live in interesting times!" ;D

Some of the "hippies" from the San Francisco 60s gave us some good music from that era... including Woodstock in upper New York state...yes they were heavy into drugs, free love, rebellion and protests but those were not bad times if you lived them....IMHO......

I still haven’t smoked a marijuana cigarette that I promised myself that I would after retirement. I have no idea how to get one without the risk of being arrested.

Heh. Yeah, txbo. I guess by the time we can finally retire and do what we want, we've either forgotten what we want, or forgotten how to go about getting it! ;D

Yeah, a retired old man hanging around high schools might be arrested for different reasons!

And how much of the credit was given based on inflated housing prices? The current situation has been a long time in coming.

Totally agree, but the OP states---this situation is due to Obamanomics.

I haven't been on a real vacation in over 4 years. This year I took off the week of the 4th of July and had my first ever staycation. I can't afford to take the kids anywhere so I decided it would be nice to have a week and a half to just relax. Not the same as a vacation, but I enjoyed it.
