A new article regarding a possible Fall attack by Israel on Iran that could also get the US involved in another war. It's from a retired CIA highly honored officer, Robert Baer, and brings into the equation the displeasure of the majority of the retired Israeli security heads of their most important agencies , and the great majority of them are very leery of Natanahu, unlike here in the States were he was honored in Congress, their feelings is he is a loose cannon. These retired Security heads are normally very quiet after they leave office, not into criticizing publicly the Government that is sitting. In fact so secretive, for years some of the department heads names were never released yet here it seems they are speaking out as they are very concerned about the PM actions. ----------------------------------------------------- english.aljazeera.net/indepth/opinion/2011/07/201171775828434786.html----------------------------------------------------- [Click on link to read article] ----------------------------------------------------- Opinion CIA veteran: Israel to attack Iran in fall The Israeli security establishment is increasingly worried by Netanyahu's bellicose stance towards Iran. MJ Rosenberg Last Modified: 17 Jul 2011 10:50 Israel may bomb Iran in the fall. Meanwhile, a faltering Iranian government may welcome war [GALLO/GETTY] "A longtime CIA officer who spent 21 years in the Middle East is predicting that Israel will bomb Iran in the fall, dragging the United States into another major war and endangering US military and civilian personnel (and other interests) throughout the Middle East and beyond. Earlier this week, Robert Baer appeared on the provocative KPFK Los Angeles show Background Briefing, hosted by Ian Masters. It was there that he predicted that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is likely to ignite a war with Iran in the very near future. Robert Baer has had a storied career, including a stint in Iraq in the 1990s where he organized opposition to Saddam Hussein. (He was recalled after being accused of trying to organize Saddam's assassination.) Upon his retirement, he received a top decoration for meritorious service. Baer is no ordinary CIA operative. George Clooney won an Oscar for playing a character based on Baer in the film Syriana (Baer also wrote the book). He obviously won't name many of his sources in Israel, the United States, and elsewhere, but the few he has named are all Israeli security figures who have publically warned that Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak are hell-bent on war. Most former Mossad chiefs wary of Netanyahu Baer was especially impressed by the unprecedented warning about Netanyahu's plans by former Mossad chief Meir Dagan. Dagan left the Israeli intelligence agency in September 2010. Two months ago, he predicted that Israel would attack and said that doing so would be "the stupidest thing" he could imagine. According to Haaretz:"

If Obama involves us in another mid-east war, he is toast. Let Israel sink or swim on their own.

If that happens my opinion it will not be just between Israel and Iran it will explode the whole region. Hope it never happens.

I don’t believe it, Netanyahu may be a hawk but he is not stupid. The only way he would go forward with such a plan if he had full military support from our government.

Now how many of those that are flipping their lids over all of "Obama's wars" will be supportive of the US getting involved in yet another Middle East conflict just because it's Israel?

Now how many of those that are flipping their lids over all of "Obama's wars" will be supportive of the US getting involved in yet another Middle East conflict just because it's Israel? --------------------------------------- Possible at another time and place , possible, but now, I doubt it , and if Natanjahu is thinking he could get the lobby and the legislators to go along with it, he doesn't understand the mood of the country. The author is suggesting that the lobby and the legislatures would be on board with such a endeavor and Obama being concerned about a election campaign would not want to lose votes, but I feel the American populace feelings would over ride any support Israel would have in the legislature, and Obama would not go along with supporting such a endeavor. If Israel was the country attacked, then a different story, IMHO. The author is suggesting the Iranians wouldn't mind such a attack as they would then go into a terrorist mode of attacks on US and Israeli areas..partly to get their populace behind the government to go after those who attacked them. This is what populaces get into when their countries are attacked, see our reaction to 9/11, Pearl Harbor.
Same would happen in Iran, even by those moderates who are against their own government now.
The thing that makes this article of some value, possible factual, is if it's true the former heads of these Security Services of Israel, in the #'s the author suggest, all feel the same way about Natanjahu's intentions, while out of power now, in a country of this size and the connections they all have with current members of government , the information they have, the inside information the general public just is not aware of, I wonder if there are not some truth to their fears and thoughts on the topic, possible a low flame simmering away ready to burst out into a conflagration that will engulf the area and plunge the area into a real shooting war.

I agree DEZI. Right now each country has it's own problems but if two of those countries get started it will go through the middle east. What a better way for those countries to deflect the attention of internal problems than to make all out war with each other. Just ask the British who controlled that area for some time.

same article appears in NEWSMAX today and is pulled from a Jerusalem post article. www.newsmaxworld.com/middle-east/CIA-officer-Israel-iran/2011/07/18/398771 This article says Netanyahu hopes to draw the US into the conflict and Baer states the pentagon has a warning to prepare for a conflict with Iran. He indicates an Iranian retaliatory strike against Bagdad and Basra but he expects the conflict to stay local and not become regional. Im not so sure....it bares watching. Any heat up in the area will pose problems on the energy front.
