I really don't like the idea of a balanced budget amendment... if cuts can't be agreed upon, would pol;iticans claim they are constitutionaly bound to raise taxes?

So you agree with McConnel? If you can't get your way, change the constitution?-----"The time has come for a balanced budget amendment that forces Washington to balance its books. If these debt negotiations have convinced us of anything, it’s that we can’t leave it to politicians in Washington to make the difficult decisions that they need to get our fiscal house in order. The balanced budget amendment will do that for them. Now is the moment. No more games. No more gimmicks. The Constitution must be amended to keep the government in check. We’ve tried persuasion. We’ve tried negotiations. We’re tried elections. Nothing has worked."
Watch it:
--------Dems offered some huge spending cuts, but republicans turned them down because they included cuts to loopholes and subsidies....why is rewritting the constitution and making a balanced budget amendment going to change that?It will just make it easier to say they are constitutionally bound to raise taxes.....

Speaking on the Senate floor this morning, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) offered what may be the most concise summary of conservative constitutionalism ever spoken — America must rewrite the Constitution to force conservative outcomes because we the people consistently elect lawmakers who disagree with McConnell: What makes this idiot think that they will pay any more attention to this "new" Constitution than they do the current Constitution?

"The Constitution must be amended to keep the government in check. We’ve tried persuasion. We’ve tried negotiations. We’re tried elections. We've tried Democrats. We've tried Republicans. There....fixed it for him.

Amazing how he can act like he had nothing to do with it. He has been a big fan of earmarks.

Amazing how he can act like he had nothing to do with it. He has been a big fan of earmarks. There's that scary term again...earmarks. Anybody involved in finance is a fan of earmarks. People love to throw out that term "earmarks" like they are inherently evil. Let me assure you, they are not. In finance, earmarks are simply funds / capital that is set aside to pay for a specific project / event. There is nothing inherently wrong with earmarks. It's the projects themselves that should draw scrutiny, not the general term used for financing them.

I agree. If a representative is not bringing home funding, he is not doing his job, imo....but, having said that the premise still holds. He has done more than his share opf spending and is now saying nothing works, not even elections?

I agree. If a representative is not bringing home funding, he is not doing his job, imo. I'd prefer the states simply keep a little bit more rather than send it to the feds and then fight like children to bring it back home. Maybe these idiots could actually focus on their jobs rather than loading up totally unrelated bills with pork. And Warren Buffett complains the rich don't pay enough in taxes while doing everything legally possible to reduce his own tax liability. I know, I know...that has absolutely nothing to do with the basic premise of your thread, but if you're going to point out hypocrisy, at least try to make it surprising....if that's even possible when discussing politics and/or politicians in general.

ugonow, in reply to your title of this thread. Did you catch the following or were you aware of this?
March 2,2006 Rigged USA Elections Exposed
Computer Programmer testifies that Tom Feeney (Speaker of the Houe of Florida at the time, currently US Representative representing MY district ) tried to pay him to rig election vote counts.
And that was then and I can only imagine now. Why remember old bush celebrating the win before the votes were even tabulated.
