Now this really is getting serious. ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) . ...."Hundreds of bars, restaurants and stores across Minnesota are running out of beer and alcohol and others may soon run out of cigarettes -- a subtle and largely unforeseen consequence of a state government shutdown. In the days leading up to the shutdown, thousands of outlets scrambled to renew their state-issued liquor purchasing cards. Many of them did not make it. Now, with no end in sight to the shutdown, they face a summer of fast-dwindling alcohol supplies and a bottom line that looks increasingly bleak. "It's going to cripple our industry," said Frank Ball, executive director of the Minnesota Licensed Beverage Association, which represents thousands of liquor retailers in the state. The Ugly Mug, a popular bar near Target Field, doesn't have enough beer to get through the baseball season. "Our inventories are diminishing rapidly over the next month," owner Erik Forsberg said. He was among a cluster of bar and restaurant owners who appealed Tuesday to a court-appointed special master to be allowed to continue buying alcohol during the shutdown. "When [the Twins are] back on Thursday and people can't get Budweiser and they can't get whatever, they're just going to go somewhere else." www.startribune.com/politics/statelocal/125459928.html

OMG, the least they could do is not take away our death by fun. I would rather have them make my healthy food inacessable than the liquor, beer and cigarettes. Revolution time, down with the tyrants.

But is there anyone to enforce the requirement now?

Would it not have made sense for business owners who saw this coming the weeks before the actual shutdown happen to have gotten in line and renewed there damn license?
We renew our professional license 3 months before expiration so that if there is any issues that come up, it doesn't impact our ability to continue business.

In the days leading up to the shutdown, thousands of outlets scrambled to renew their state-issued liquor purchasing cards. Many of them did not make it. WTH is a liquor purchasing card? I assume it's some sort of a retail license since they are talking about "thousands of outlets" scrambling. What does it have to do with the supplier?

I'm sure the Minnesota Democrats are looking into having the State become the supplier. It follows the narrative arc of Huxley's Brave New World, where the fascist State is the supplier of the narcotic Soma, to which most citizens are addicted. Since BNW seems to be the Democrats' model for the future, it only fits...

Are you sure it is just on a state level, and not part of Obamas grand scheme to destroy our capitalist system with a total communist takeover?

Having relatives in MN (my wife comes from there) I can say that this would be a BIG issue. My guess is that in the areas away from the big cities the bars will do whatever it takes to get alcohol to serve (including illegal means). As for the political consequences, they could be radical. If enough people (& I'm talking 100,000 or more) can't get alcohol I believe that the next election just might see 2 or 3 Democrats voting Republican (assuming there is a box for voting Republican on their ticket). Of course I could be over estimating those that vote Republican by 50% or more. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Sounds like one of those I promise not to raise taxes revenue deals. You're probably right. Here in FL, retailers have to have a liquor license to make purchases or sell. Never heard of a separate card for purchasing. We have a wholesale liquor license....no "purchasing card".

Well it looks like it is time for this old man to return to his teen years of whisky running. A few runs out to minnasota in the old hopped up Ford and looks like I could turn a nice dollar. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

...but Al Gore? in a Stetson? seriously? ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/unwell.png) It's not so far from the truth. Liberals probably don't even know it (or won't admit it), but Al Gore and his family got rich selling coal, oil and tobacco. He sold the "disease", now he's selling the "cure"...if that isn't classic hucksterism, I don't know what is...

Sorta like Michelle Bachman's family making their living farming and collecting federal farm subsidies and how telling us how socialist and evil those subsidies are?

Tommy Lee Jones, he was A's roommate in college.
This is for picking the actor, since we have the Tesla Roadster

...well, I was curious about who you all would get to play Bandit and which car to drive...
...but I think I'd go with a "back in the saddle" gig for Arnold Schwarzenegger or an "I schmooze you to lose" vote for Bruce Willis... Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp come to mind, too, but they just seem a little too cliche' to me...
...and I'd not go green on this movie... Bugatti Veyron or a McLaren F1 for me...
;D
