Hello. I paid off my mortgage with BOA on 5/31/11.
Apparently as part of my mortgage agreement, with my last payment I also paid a $75.00 "recording fee"
I am under the impression that BOA contacts the County clerk of deeds and I should receive a motgage discharge from them
Is that correct? and if so how long should this take? and who should follow through if the discharge does not simply arrive? If not, how does this work and what should I be doing in what time frame?
Does anyone have experience with BOA in this circumstance?
Thanks in advance

Congrats on paying off your mortgage! Your best bet is to call the servicing department and speak directly to somebody who has access to your loan information. According to the website, this is the loan servicing phone number: 1.800.763.1255. Make sure you have your loan number available.

Thanks to good decisions, daphne and cube!!! I went on line and guess what it was discharged early June Now what, can I just go to the court house (which luckily is about 4 miles from my home) to get a copy? I aleady paid the bank the $75.00 fee, so should there be n additional fee for the physical paper

The clerk's office may very well charge you for a copy. You paid the $75 to cover the filing fee for the mortgage discharge, but the clerk will charge you for copies.
You don't need a copy. Since it's on record at the county clerk's, when you go to sell, the title search will pick it up.

We paid off our BofA mortgage in San Mateo County (CA) in March. We got our paperwork about 30 to 45 days later.
I agree with Swamp. Your fee covered the cost of the bank to prepare the paperwork and the recording fee at the county. You can pay a few extra bucks if you want a copy right away but why spend the money if it's only going to be a week or so later?

Does the same hold true for a second mortgage? Mine pays off next month.

It should be recorded on their website. I know not all states do that, but most do. That's what I've always done. I like all my paperwork in my own files just for peace of mind.

You have to have a subscription to use our county clerk's document website to be able to view and print their records.
