My old ship sailed just a few hours ago in Boston Harbor so thought you two former Navy Yeomen would enjoy this photo of her (USS Constitution Old Ironsides) to make up for my jabs at Yeomen.. note from moon- PI, i hope you don't mind but i resized your pic a bit so it would load faster and not take up the entire screen...

Wish my Dad were still alive to share this with (he was in the Navy during WWII).
Have a great 4th!

Damn, PI, I didn't know you were that old! You still have your tricorner? No, good pic though, I toured the Constitution last time I was in Boston. It was a memorable experience. Happy 4th and Semper Fi!

Hey ed1066 .......... Marine sentry duty assigned to Ole Ironsides from midnight to 0400 hrs along the Boston waterfront in winter is not exactly the same as Yeomen duty..

Awesome! Were you actually stationed aboard the Constitution? No I was not assigned to the Ship's Company but only as a guard for 4hrs watch at midnight to 0400hrs.. Ole Ironsides was just one of many guard posts for the Marines at the Boston Navy Yard...before it was closed.

Hey P.I. other military can enjoy looking at it too! I'm retired A.F. & I enjoyed seeing it. Of course my first thought was how easy it would be to strafe & bomb it but even so.......

We had very good security in and around the Boston Navy Yard which is actually in Charlestown MA but I had to watch for any boats who came to close to Ole Ironsides to make sure that nobody tried to go onboard her or toss something at her.. I had a loaded weapon with a lot of ammo to make sure that didn't happen..
I don't think there has been any attempts to damage the USS Constitution by anyone..I am sure it would have been in the news..And the Coast Guard also patrolled the Boston Harbor..

Sounds like someone "intelligent" was running the security for her. To bad that's not always the case for our active navy ships in foreign ports. You know, where they have marines standing around with guns but no bullets in the guns. I still think the person that made that decision (about the Cole) was just as guilty as the people that attacked it.

Oldtex.....marines have "weapons" or "pieces" not "guns"...but did you know the Marine Guards at the Beirut Airport in Labanon had unloaded weapons? A driver of a yellow Mercedes loaded with high explosives probably knew this as he drove past them and on into the Marines Barracks and killed 240 troops on a Sunday morning (0630hrs) on 23 October 1983..
