Obama to Congress on debt talks: 'Get it done'
'They need to do their job ... That's why they're called leaders'
"Congress and the President need to rise above political considerations and both do their jobs. Obama needs to lead but that might be an impossible task with less than four weeks remaining before our country falls into default".. .....P.I. (Senior Troll Emeritus)

It was not until the passage of the Budget and Accounting Act of 1921 that the President even submitted a budget to Congress. This Act was one of the many steps taken which has lead to the "Imperial Presidency", something that I do not support. President Obama has done his job of giving to Congress his proposal for a budget. It is the responsibility of our Senators and Representatives to take what he has given them, adjust as they determine is appropriate, and send back to him a final budget. It is his job to decide if he will sign it or not. The balance of power between the executive and legislative branches of our government are sadly out of whack. This is just one more example of Congress failing to do its job. With the situation in Libya, many members of Congress are howling that the President overstepped his role. In this case, they are howling that he is failing to overstep his role.
I agree with the president. Congress, do your job.

I seriously doubt that you or I are knowledgeable enough to really know what is going on behind the scenes in the White House as our so called Leaders, Obama, Reid, Boehner and McConnell try to hammer out a compromise, and pass a debt reduction budget for fiscal year 2011 by 01 August... There are major roadblocks to be overcome i.e Liberals want to cut the Defense Budget and go with the Rivlin Domenic's deficit reduction plan but the conservative Dems do not agree with that proposal, Liberals want to increase taxes on individuals and businesses but the conservative Dems are not all in agreement with increasing taxes while our economy is so slow....so how can the leaders reach a compromise when members of the Democratic Party are split on tax increases and spending cuts...is Reid or Pelosi leading their Dems on these issues and working out a deal that will get them to vote for a deal with Obama, and the Congressional Leaders?? I don't have a clue and doubt that you or anyone else has either so the chances of resolving these issues by 01 August seems to be at risk....IMHO

President Obama is "leading" but in a direction that I don't want him (or this country) to go. As for the "shut down" the government problem I just hope the Republicans can take advantage of it & force the Democrats into some sort of spending cuts. If they can't then I hope they shut down the government for the next year & a half.

How is Obama leading when even today on his Saturday AM Radio Address he blames the Republicans for playing politics and more interested in what they think is best for Republicans rather than what is best for our country....If remarks like that which we have all heard before readily that is not leading but it is rather adding to the divisiveness... Leadership is a characteristic that I would recognize if I saw it and don't see much of it in Obama...but then again I am not alone in this regard even Reid got frustrated at his recent press conferences and Old Harry implied that Obama was NOT leading the discussions since Biden failure to lead became apparent... My impression was the Reid and Biden could not have a meeting of their two minds and Reid wanted Obama to play an more active role or Ole Harry was just about ready to give up because of his frustrations..

he's leading in my opinion and possible, if he is able too, it was mentioned the other day, and I don't remember the answer, that if the ceiling is not raised h may do so by executive decision, but I asked can he do that legally and don't remember if any one posted a answer or did a google on it..did I miss that? Anyone?
If he can do so, the pubs just might allow him to do so, thinking it will be a item to use against him in the upcoming campaign or it might come back and bite them i the butt that they were not able to come to a agreement with the undecided voters, independents, even some of the moderate pubs who are not happy with Congress, especially the House ..

Not really my answer is " Mr Obama with all due respects, Sir but get off you butt and lead and if you cannot then get the hell out of the way and get someone in your place who can indeed lead because it is needed ASAP"BTW do you and I have a bet that the Repubs will let the government default if they do NOT get what they want??? As I tried to say yesterday..." the clock is ticking down and we now have 29 days left so are you beginning to sweat it yet??"Btw note the red, white and blue...it is 4th of July thing in case you are wondering...

You just hate to lose. While it is absolutely true that I hate to lose, that is not why we don't have a bet on this particular issue. I don't know what Congress will end up doing or not doing on this issue.

Then google what Mitch McConnell said recently about debt reduction negotiations with Obama and see if he is not implying that the Repubs will walk away from any deal that has tax increases..
His comments were just played on CBS Radio and it is clear to me he wants to test the default thing to get what he wants..

seems he likes playing Russian Roulette with the health of the American constituents..he has that privilide, little responsibility actually, a POTUS , who ever he/she is , no matter what party, they don't have that privilidge..have so much more on their plate then a Mitch McConnell..

Is Obama Leading Or Not??? No. I was concerned when he was running for the office that he would be in "over his head." I think he is. He's a one-trick-pony and this is his trick: To look and sound Presidential [and black] and express bemusement that others aren't solving the problems that the American People have come to expect the President to address. It is quite correct to say that Congress isn't doing its job either, but that really doesn't take the load off the President. Our country is designed [by the Constitution] to allow a strong President or a strong Congress depending on circumstances, but it is not designed to function when both the President and Congress are weak. The worst possible scenario, short of collapse, is that the Judicial Branch become the most powerful ~ that would likely lead to irrevocable tyranny. Unfortunately the American People, beginning or at least significantly accelerated under FDR, have abdicated their responsibility to demand performance from their leaders as well as to exercise responsibility for their own welfare. Don't blame Obama and the Congress ~ we sent them there.

Moonbeam racism is a fact of life and how we all deal with it is important but so far our government has just ignored it...racism could and would destroy your board let's hope that atheism doesn't do the same thing IMHO But you know I was labeled a "typical white conservative male" here a few times so my use of that term was harmless or as a comeback or joyingly I think I said when labled as such " I wear it proudly.." ;D Time for me to find a comfortable chair in front of the TV and watch the Red Sox beat up on Houston again.....C'Ya

I don't care what anyones says about Obama pro or con but he has never provided the strong leadership the country has expected from it's president when we need it so much with our wars, economy, and political divisiveness.. When Obama blasted congress for not doing their jobs and used his daughters as examples of doing their work, he may have lost any chances he has to get a deal by 01 August for the debt reduction proposal that has to be approved by congress and the president.

I just don't know about that but have reservations about Obama taking the lead with congress to ge the debt ceiling issue resolved but it I am wrong I will admit it but just don't see that happening by 01 August. I think if there is no agreement then Obama will be blamed and made to look weak and incompetent again by the Repbs.. Remember what Mitch McConnell said earlier this year "The Repubs plan to do all they can to make sure Obama is not re elected in 2012"..
