Minority infants now the majority: preliminary census data

(Newser) – Minority babies now outnumber white infants in the US, preliminary Census estimates show, a finding that indicates racial and ethnic minorities will become the nation's majority by the middle of the century. Just under half of all children under 3 are non-Hispanic whites, down from more than 60% in 1990, the AP reports. Meanwhile, 80% of seniors in America are white, as are 73% of those aged 45-64.

"It's clear the younger generation is very demographically different from the elderly, something to keep in mind as politics plays out on how programs for the elderly get supported," says one activist. A demographer adds that the findings also show the US must "integrate and educate a new diverse child population." I expect to be in the minority in CA in a few years if I am still around because the Hispanics will be the majority But I can deal with it because it is better than the alternative

What does that mean? "They" have been here, presumably being integrated and educated all along. The scales tipped, oh well... why is this supposed to be a catalyst for change in integration and education?

I think the reference to minority babies refers to the fact that they are the progeny of a minority, rather than a minority in, and of themselves.

All this means is that sooner rather than later, Minorities are going to have to learn to take care of themselves.
The term minority, as used by "demographers," is pretty much meaningless as just about everybody, strictly defined, is a "minority" member.
It's more important, I think, to be concerned about what "we" rather than "they" are going to do. The pitting of one group against another, and ruling by coalition, is another unpleasant reality resulting from the liberal Democrat political model.

Each race unto itself is still a minority. And white people still outnumber everyone else. And, after all these babies are counted, there will still be more white people than any other race, even if 50% plus 1 of the total population is not white.

But, I'm not sure what the next PC word is. Can we call them non-whites? Can we call them non-euro's? As a white person, you really aren't allowed to say much, except to name off each of their various heritages. Of course, you can't do that without someone getting their panties in an uproar. Black or African American? Hispanic or Latino? Indian or Native American?

There's a monumental difference between and individual who identifies with his/her history and heritage (which he/she understands) and an unaffiliated person who needs to call that person by a name affiliated with his/her heritage instead of his/her humanity, as I see it.

That's the direct opposite from liberals. They never face facts & prefer to have their heads in the clouds. (Of course that's not all liberals, some are practical). But the main radical liberals that post the most here do come across that way.

As for the post, I wouldn't have posted it. Somehow to me it seems at least mildly prejudice. I look at all people as the same (Americans) & it would have never crossed my mind that those "facts" were in any way important. I too find it interesting that a liberal chose to put this thread up. After all according to liberals us conservatives all hate different races.

Anyway often times I get the impression that a lot of liberals know where they fall short & so they then attack conservatives in those areas just to make a first strike.

Ideally, we would be "color-blind" but we aren't. Just like we aren't gender-blind. You know if you are hiring a woman, or a black person, or whatever. Just clicking our heels and wishing it weren't so doesn't make it happen. There are vast inequities that coincide with racial lines, and just pretending that everyone is the same doesn't make that untrue. Unfortunately, we are branded as "evil" or "short sighted" if we even dare to speak of it, when in reality, anyone who wants to pretend it doesn't matter are the ones that are keeping the inequity going.

But, hey, like I said - I got mine, so whatever.

Your probably right mmhmm. I don't see the radical right stuff as much because I'm one of them. I do wonder sometimes (usually when I've had a couple of beers) just how much the radical left believes in their beliefs? As much as the radical right? I know the left will kill for their beliefs because we have seen ample evidence of that. I know that I'm willing to die for my beliefs (but I don't know if I'm average). The future should be an interesting time. I'm still saying that there is a real possibility of a civil war over these views.

I think the fact that I'm a moderate may make me more aware of these dichotomies, oldtex. I do think, as you said, those who are more party-oriented, or specific ideology-oriented might tend to see one side differently than the other. It's not a fault. It's just human nature.

The far right will kill for their beliefs, as well. We've seen evidence of this willingness on both sides. Perhaps, one day, we'll be able to blur that line in the sand and work together. I'll not hold my breath, but I'll always hold hope.

Not a chance in the world will we work together. Our goals are the exact opposite with the middle Gounod being unacceptable to both of us. Me, I'd rather see the U.S. divided, one side liberal & one side conservative. Heck I'd even rather see a civil war than go with the socialist left.

At one time I think we came close to a race war. Today it's different. I think that the next war will be liberals against conservatives but it will probably be more of a gorilla type war with both sides strategically killing people. To bad but I see no compromise on it from either side.
