I wish this airline flew to the places my job takes me. ********************************************************************************************** www.boston.com/travel/blog/2011/06/airline_bans_ba.html?p1=Upbox_linksMalaysia Airlines, which has banned babies in first-class sections on its Boeing 747-400 jets, also plans to do the same in its Airbus A380 superjumbo jets. Airline anaging director and chief exexutive Tengku Azmil told the Australian Business Traveller that the carrier has received many complaints about crying infants from first class passengers that they "spend money on 1st class and can't sleep due to crying infants." Malaysia Airlines uses its fleet of 747-400s on long hauls between Kuala Lumpur and Sydney, London and Amsterdam and plans to use its A380s on those routes next year as it takes delivery of those aircraft. Amid rising fuel prices and airfares, along with airlines' focus on business travelers, the issue of segregating children on flights or even child-free flights has been receiving more attention. In February, Britain's Daily Mail reported that a number of airlines, including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Emirates are being urged by travel specialists to consider child-free zones and flights to accommodate passengers without children. That report came shortly after the release of a poll in the UK which showed that about 75 percent of business passengers found children on planes "irritating." The survey involved 1,000 business-class travelers and was done for the 2011 Business Travel and Meetings trade show.

As a mother who has traveled with her children, and as a business woman who has traveled without children, I am in full support of the idea of a kid-zone or even kid-friendly flights (I think we call those "Southwest Airlines.") I don't want to bother anyone with my kids or my (then) babies. Maybe the Mom in front of me would understand that if she just puts her seat up 1 inch, my kid's feet can't reach the seat to kick it.
However, I will say that after traveling with a toddler, when I travel sans-kids, I could be surrounded by screaming kids and it doesn't bother me at all. As long as it isn't my responsibility to hush them, to comfort them, to feed them, to change them - cry away kid. I've got earplugs.

It's not the kids that annoy me. It's the parents that don't take responsibility for their kids that annoy me.

Well, that lousy curtain they pull across doesn't keep the noise out anyway.

After our last flight from Frankfurt to Houston, I'm torn between endorsing a kid-free zone (2 year old screamed for 3 hours in the Frankfurt airport and throughout the 7 hour flight) and a sleeping obese Russian male-free zone (he sprawled, snored and farted during the 7 hour flight). Right now, I'm voting in favor of the little ones because I can always use earplugs but clothespins on the nose for the borscht effluvia gets old. As well as his overly endowed thigh flopping over on my leg. I'm just so grateful he didn't do any teenage dreaming, if you know what I mean.
