And which one of the two does Waterloo acknowledge as a favorite son?

Unfortunate gaff. Seems prone to them. Not as bad as Barack Obama of course but pretty bad. She needs a cracker jack handler. Big time.

Maybe - but my gut feeling is that 90% of voters don't have a clue who Gacy was.

... just like John Wayne ... That's the kind of spirit that I have, too," Bachmann told a Fox News reporter. Okay, she was wrong about the birthplace but is she right about the spirit? Today's 100th anniversary of the birth of John Wayne, perhaps the biggest movie star of all time and one of my favorites when I was growing up, is an opportune occasion to examine his peculiar status as a conservative political icon.
I say "peculiar" because the Duke, as a symbol of manhood, patriotism and American virtues, was all artifice. He wasn't a cowboy. He wasn't a war hero. None of the words or actions for which he is best remembered were his own. They were the products of writers and directors, special camera angles and lighting and theme music. It was all Hollywood. None of it was reality. rockfordrascal.blogspot.com/2007/05/curious-legend-of-john-wayne.html

"Fox News Asks Michele Bachmann 'Are You A Flake?'"Oh please, oh please, T.P. people, have her win the primaries... ...because if someone even remotely good for the country wins, Obama and his failing liberal agenda is toast.

How does this qualify as a misstatement? A misstatement is knowing the facts and misspeaking. It's knowing that there are 50 states but instead referring to the 57 states.
Bachmann's John Wayne statement was NOT a misstatement. She really thought John Wayne was born in Waterloo. And I can guarantee you that the citizens of Waterloo are exactly sure of where both John Wayne was born and where John Wayne Gacy lived.

I just got back from a rental property of a friend of mine where Jeffrey Dahmer's brother lived. Fascinating story.
