Dodgers blame MLB for this banruptcy, and the players may not get paid and former playes are owed big bucks including Manny Ramirez and announcer Vin Scully. The Dodger owners who are going through a messy divorce wanted a big share of the profits to help with their financial problems but MLB said NO to that Brooklyn says bring Da Bums back to them..

Well, sounds like the time to build a new stadium. Isn't that the proper response? Don't know Ma'am but they need money now to pay the team or they could go belly up....so MLB has to make some quick decisions to save this team... The news in LA is going bonkers on this shocker today but I think it was expected??

Maybe we need to let some of these teams fail and go away. Attendance by the Marlins and Rays in Florida is horrific as well as Toronto... At some games there are more players than fannies in the seats And the NFL is still on strike....too much money chasing after too few so it just went down the toilet because of one word "Greed"

I'm surprised the Dodgers lasted this long. The only professional (PAID) teams that L.A. supports are the Lakers and the USC Trojans.

(Bud Selig has) turned his back on the Dodgers, treated us differently, and forced us to the point we find ourselves in today. I simply cannot allow the Commissioner to knowingly and intentionally be in a position to expose the Dodgers to financial risk any longer. ” -- Frank McCourt, in statement after bankruptcy filing

It has nothing to do with the McCourt's financial idiocy and their messy divorce?

I am sure Walter O'malley is screaming out in dismay at McCourt...from where ever he is..what a storied franchise and yes a old stadium but still a classy one..no reason to be replaced..
Need a new owner with some $ in the kitty...

Selig has to decide what to do and he has several options to keep the LA Dodgers from going down the toilet...But this has to be rough for the team to say the least...but MLB has tons of cash to keep them going until they can find another owner, I would assume??

But once you're in bankruptcy court, you've just bunged up the sale. The McCourts are divorcing and from all reports it's messy and they were more interested in sticking it to the other than preserving their assets. The team should have been sold months ago.

The Dodgers' filing follows that of the Rangers, who sought Chapter 11 protection in May of last year. The Rangers' filing successfully pushed through Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan's $590 million bid to buy the team. Creditors had stalled the deal for months, arguing that the team had rejected higher offers.
McCourt has maintained he met the criteria set forth by baseball officials in order for the TV contract to be approved and would amend the conditions if needed. The Dodgers' current TV deal with Fox expires in 2013.
The divorce settlement, now voided because of Selig's decision, called for a one-day "characterization" trial Aug. 4 to determine if title to the Dodgers is in Frank McCourt's name or if the team should be considered community property and sold. Robert Sacks, an attorney retained by Frank McCourt, said the trial may be shelved and Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon could decide how to handle the former couple's assets at a later date.
Gordon ruled in December that a postnuptial marital agreement that gave Frank McCourt sole ownership of the Dodgers was invalid. That cleared the way for Jamie McCourt, who served as the team's CEO and was fired by her ex-husband two years ago, to seek half the team under California's community property law.
Information from The Associated Press and ESPNLosAngeles.com's Tony Jackson contributed to this report.

Again, this is a marital issue that is screwing over the team.

Things didn't go so bad for the Texas Rangers after Nolan Ryan, et al, bought them out of bankruptcy court in a bidding battle with Marc Cuban, et al.
I don't like Selig, but he isn't the scumball McCourt is. McCourt was bleeding the Dodger assets dry. Selig stopped it.
