...do what, too? ...have issues about protecting their borders? ...and why would that be overreaching?

The guy was fishing, unanchored, in Canadian waters, with a Canadian fishing license and he never set foot on Canadian soil, just like 1,000's of other people do every single day. Canadians do it in US waters too. The end result for Canada is that the Americans aren't going to buy their fishing licenses now.
I live on the border, and the business community wants to encourage cross border commerce.
Just giving another perspective of the border issues..............

Swamp I too live in a border state and am sad to see the formalization of the border with Canada. It used to be common for people to cross back and forth to shop, socialize or whatever just by driving through, whether the crossing was open or not. Families live on both sides of the border. The US/ Canadian border was as open as a border could be, and we were proud of that. It's a shame to see it change. I understand the need for border protection, but it's just getting silly. Somebody has yet to explain to my how requiring a US citizen to show a passport, or a "double secret probation super secure driver's license" makes us safer from terrorism when my regular old photo ID and a birth certificate can prove my identity. If I'm not mistaken, all the 9/11 hijackers had valid passports.......... And tell me how hassling fishermen floating in a river protects our borders? I mean, it's pretty easy to figure out who is actually fishing and who is casing the border.

Guess Canada is broke, too. Any excuse to collect money. That's exactly what it was.

How are kids supposed to get their alcohol now?
