Unless there are several mistakes, (creative bookkeeping?), the numbers are wrong. To start with his salary last year was the same as all members of congress, , , , $174,000.
Salaries for the majority and minority leaders in both the House and in the Senate get $193,400.

If you itemize, on your taxes, how can they be unspecified deductions, or is that just a regular deduction line for Congressmen?

The OP contains some of the absolute WORST Weiner jokes I have read on any board on the internet.
C'mon, Helen Keller could do better than that!

Just an example:
"Anthony's wife comes home from overseas, cuts off Weiner."
I know. I posted it before. But dammit, it works!!!

"Records show that Weiner took $40,521 in unspecified itemized deductions on an income of $156,117 income during the 2010 tax year."
This is not a defense of Mr. Weiner, it's correcting a biased unsubstantiated claim. As a CPA who assists many individuals with the tax law in the City of New York the total itemized deductions claimed are not as outlandish as alleged, but without seeing the actual filings a proper analysis cannot be made. It seems the original blogger who made these allegations did not see the full tax filings.
A person who claims "itemized" deductions must attach a form called schedule A to their form 1040. This form discloses the type of deductions claimed (including medical costs, state, local and real estate taxes, mortgage interest, charity, employee business and other expenses, etc.
Does Mr. Weiner's alleged deductions seem reasonable, I say yes. He lives in the City of New York, an area where real estate is extremely expensive (due to limited space and high concentration of people). If his mortgage on his home is say 500,000 (very possible in this area and it may also be higher) at a rate of say 5% (pure guess) that's 25,000..... New York City real estate taxes say 4,000 '(again pure guess)..... New York State and City income tax would be anywhere between 12,000 and 14,000 (do the math).... that is very close to the 40,000 noted.....and in NYC that is not unusual for a home owner...
Again, without seeing the actual tax filings why do people need to assume (ask Felix and Oscar what that means).... must be for political gain..... can't we just move on, he resigned, we have bigger issues to deal with in this country.....what's the unemployment rate, when will banks start to really lend to small business, etc.... nothing like kicking a man when he is down...he who lives in a glass house....
