Using the Murphy's Law theory, should retain my last place prosition. In order to do so, will ride the old grey mare, CWS (long) again this week. Need more to go wrong for a wipe out. Who knows, may get scratched over the long weekend.
A great Memorial Day to all who may be veterans. And, thank you for your service.... JWB (CMS, USAF, Ret.)

Rovo,.....I think your "kick off" post for this week's contest needs a correction... I did not win last week.. 2kids10horses was the winner. And he's probably having a late breakfast because he's polishing the FIRST PLACE TROPHY.......

Actually, I've been up all night scraping the sweat off URTY! His handlers have told me that he needs a week off. Maybe even longer.
So, I had a walk down the stable, and took a look at the steeds who are waiting for the right conditions... It IS the end of May, and the track gets rutted, and rocky. Lots of horses just prefer not to run in the heat and rough track conditions.
So, let's give SRTY the reins this week. It's a short week!
So, this week, Rovo, I'm riding SRTY, Long. (SRTY is the 3x Short Russel 2000 Index ETF.)
Good luck to all jockeys!

2k10h,............so glad to see your post. Now for the record, I know practically nothing about horses. I did spend 3 days once around a bunch of Kentucky horse farms (visiting with a friend and his son). We pulled Seattle Slew & Affirmed from their stalls for photos. They were the only 2 living triple crown winners at the time. I wish everyone a great weekend.

I always wanted to see Secretariat. Never did.
One of my earliest memories of horse racing was Secretariat at the Belmont. At the midway point, it looked like he was going to fade. And then, he just found another gear. A gear that no other horse has ever found, before, or since.
A 26 length lead... OMG! This from only 1/2 a course!
We have Quarter Horses. My daughter showed at 4-H and AQHA shows. She was Reserve State Champion in the Western Stock Seat Division at the State 4-H show in Perry. (Reserve means she came in 2nd overall.) She was the State Champion in three classes: Showmanship, Western Riding, and Reining. She was in the top 3 or 4in Western Trail, Horsemanship, and had an "Honorable Mention" in Western Pleasure. She SHOULD have been overall champion, because the classes she won, Reining, and Western Riding, are more difficult classes. In fact, many entrants get disqualified for excessive faults. So, because of that, not many enter. That's the problem with the scoring system. They weight the classes with many entrants higher, so a win in those classes (easier events) counts for more than a win in a more difficult class. The girl that beat her for 1st, won Trail Class, and came in second in two others. My daughter won 3 classes and was 3rd or 4th in two others, but came in second. C'est la vie.
Anyway, that horse is now about 20 years old, still a great horse, but we've retired him from competition. My daughter is now concentrating on music. She wants to go to a music conservatory for college.
She knows how to do real estate, and I can teach her to trade stocks for a living to support her music career!
As to kids, don't get me started about the goats!

2k&10h,.....very interesting post. Uncle23, this board could get like the old ADSX one we posted on for years. And the market is really dull on long weekends (like this one).

long SQQQ again. I've had a position of this in real ports for a few days, and it hasn't given me near the beating it usually likes to do so I decided to keep it into next week and see if the market takes the tumble it so richly deserves. As to horses, my sister used to do that barrel racing thing and she and her husband took back country trips in the Sierra Nevada. One thing I remember about horses is that the bastards will step right on your foot and not move or give a damn until you whack 'em and push 'em really hard. In their defense, with those hooves and steel shoes and such I doubt they have any feeling whatsoever as to what they're standing on. But they weigh a lot, and on anything but soft ground it's an experience better avoided. But it's certainly not like a dog. A dog begins to step on your foot and lifts that paw immediately then looks up and says with his/her eyes, "man, I'm really sorry, I hope I didn't hurt you, I'm very embarrassed, it was so un-doglike of me to not even know where my feet were, but I was just so excited at the prospect of whatever I hoped was about to happen that I didn't maintain my normal body awareness, man, I'm really sorry, I hope I didn't hurt you, I'm very embarrassed ...". And he/she will keep saying it until you pat it on the head and tell 'em it's okay, it didn't hurt. "Heaven goes by favour. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in." Mark Twain

long FTO (Frontier Oil Corp. - Oil and Gas Refining and Marketing)
This refiner came up on my favorite screen and I like the chart. It looks like if it breaks above 30 it could run. The crack spread was over 26. I don't have a position in this stock but I do have call spreads on SUN and TSO which also are refiners.

tyfighter,.............here's a link to a video that you'll surely enjoy if you haven't seen it. It's in reference to your stock pick again (NOG). Re: how they drill the bakken wells (Shale oil). I rec'd. it a couple of days ago from a friend that lives in Arizona.....and I had watched most of it before noticing the NOG symbol at the bottom. Even if someone is not really into the oil game, it's enjoyable to watch ( and educational, too). Speakers on. I've watched it now about 3 times; it's approx. 6 1/2 minutes long. www.northernoil.com/drilling.php

arch, I've seen it before. It's quite amazing to see how they do it and educational to boot. From that same well they could do several laterals to keep supply going.

yclept,
You do realize that horses are very much aware of exactly where they place their feet. Undoubtedly, the top of yours would be more comfortable than the rocky ground.
Now, another thing you must understand is that there is a lead mare that leads the herd. Most people think the stallion does, but no, he is a follower. Sure, he defends his herd from predators, and competing stallions, but it is a lead mare that decides when the herd goes to graze or when to go get water. And, the lead mare, always, but ALWAYS, gets the best grazing.
So, SBS, we defer to you! Don't lead us astray.

SBS, don't you know..?? Women have always controlled the world (since the beginning of time)..LOL.
o.k., rovo, here's my stock pick for this short week.: N Net Suite, Inc. (long) closed Friday at $37.40 (listed NYSE) late April, nice up gap on high volume. This one is probably more suitable for a longer contest...so it may not be a good race horse for only a week.....but I've entered him anyway.
Net Suite Inc. provides an on-demand, integrated business management application suite etc., etc.,etc................
I'll see you'all at the race track.
