Right now - I only have 23, but I have co-workers with 200+. How do they sleep at night?

I currently have 758 emails in my inbox at work. All of which have been read and handled in some way, shape or form. If it's an email I think I need to save, it goes into a file folder as soon as I'm done with it. Otherwise, it stays in my inbox for 1 year when the system deletes them.

Probably thousands in my folders/archives, about 20 in my inbox right now... I get anywhere from 10-40 new ones a day. The bad part is coming back from a 3-day weekend and seeing "Inbox (75)"... makes me want to hide under the desk

313 right now, over 5K in the Archive folder. I have some dating back six or seven years. I keep them because no one believes how bad it used to be here.

We are't allowed to "work out of our inbox" and we aren't allowed to delete emails, so as I finish with an email it goes into archives.

I've got 133 in my inbox. After reading and handling an email, I either delete it or move it to a folder if I need to save it. Our emails are automatically deleted after 90 days, so I generally move emails to a folder for a project if it needs to be saved.

430 - They've been dealt with but I need to pick out the last in each series, file them and delete the rest. It's my Sent box that is the worst mess. That is my CYA folder. I can't tell you how many times someone has claimed I didn't send something and were a little embarrassed when I had the sent email.

211 - all have been read, 21 flagged for follow-up. The rest are parts of ongoing conversations and I need to ensure that the situations have been resolved, then delete the rest of the e-mails or reports that I have been copied on that I need to read before filing or deleting. I haven't done a cleanup in over a month.
I save every sent e-mail archived for at least 3 years as CYA. I use those achrives all the time.

I have 55 right now. I've read almost all of them and are saving most of them for one reason or another.

I used to have the System Admin asking me to and I refused. Every time I do, I need something from it within the week. Never again. But this was a good 5-7 years ago.

I get about 300-500 work emails everyday 24 hours a day- 7 days/week. For the most part, I manage to read, reply and file as they come in. How do you guys live without archive folders? They seriously will change your life. You can create folders for all your projects or direct reports and much more easily be able to get back to them versus keeping 3000 emails in your inbox.

I have 508.
I am just amazed at the number of people who keep every single email. I understand why some people do, but it seems like you then spend most of your day "managing email". This seems somewhat counterproductive.
My number is high right now. I need to do some cleanup. I try to delete some email immediately. For instance I have a coworker who always replies "Thanks" when I send him information. Those get deleted.
Just a note that my husband and I are completely incompatable when it comes to email. He is a deleter, he does not want anything in his inbox more than 24 hours. When we try to share access to personal email, he would always get annoyed at having too many messages in the inbox (this number could be as low as 5). We no longer share email.

My inbox hovers around 100 to 125 emails. I delete or archive on a regular basis. I use my inbox as a kind of To-Do list. There are usually 5 to 10 emails that represent that ToDo list at any given time. The rest of the emails are either part of the never ending stream of 'informational' emails (I get about 20 of those a day) or part of the threads that go with items from the "Todo List". Anything in the inbox gets deleted after 3 months - automatically by the system. Kinda scary. Back in the olden days I had heard of people with thousands of emails in their inbox.

3560 emails in my inbox, 3835 in my sent box (need to clean this one out), and not sure how many to tell are in my archived folders. We also have "public" email folders on a server, so that's where I file most project-specific emails.

No, you don't have to spend your day managing your email. It takes no more time to move it to the appropriately labeled folder than it does to delete. The only difference is you can recall it if you need it and it doesn't take up space on your outlook server by keeping it in your inbox.

My company uses Gmail. I've currently got 160 conversations in my inbox (all have been read). My archives are using ~7% of my available storage (25600 mb). The company autodeletes anything in your inbox that is older than 75 days unless you archive it.

What is this "work" email inbox of which you speak?

Which inbox? I have three work accounts. One from the agency I'm on contract with, one from the agency where I actually sit since I don't work onsite with the agency I work for, and one from the company I'm employed by. Two of the three barely get any email, maybe a handful a day. The one from the agency I work for averages a few hundred a day, but only about 50 of them are from real people, most are messages from the systems I maintain. At any given time I have a couple thousand emails in my main inbox (three months worth after deleting most of the system messages), and usually fifty or so in the secondary ones.

To help users deal with managing their quota, our company recently increased the mailbox sizes from 500meg to 5gig. Of course, it is a short term fix and users over the next year or so will built up to this new quota and be back to the original problem of receiving quota warnings.

14! I usually receive 60-75 a day. I love white space in my inbox so I respond and file accordingly.

When I was working, I emptied my email almost every day ... either deleting emails or putting them in specific folders. I hated things in my inbox.
I do the same, now, with my personal email.

With a 150 MB quota I start getting nasty emails if I go away for a long weekend.

2281 and I auto-archive every day for emails more than two weeks old.
Each one of them has been read.

So those of you with hundreds, or thousands of emails - do you not organize them into folders? Is everything needing a followup? That would unnerve me to just leave emails there - I would feel like I am missing something.
