Will take a shot in the dark with TPI (TIANYIN Pharmaceutics), Long, this week. I feel it is grossly undervalued, although the Trolls keep dissing it (mainly because it is caught up in the Chinese ADR downdraft). Do not share any suggestions of "fraud" "mal-reporting" and such rot. Just please, be a nice horse, do not leap out at the gate, or I will have to shoot the trainer. Nice and slow start does it. And, please too, run like Whirlaway after the first poll, and 5 lengths ahead at the finish line. Tianyin Pharmaceutical Co., Inc. is a pharmaceutical company. Through the Company's indirect wholly owned subsidiary Chengdu Tianyin Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Chengdu Tianyin), it is engaged in the development, manufacturing, marketing and sales of patented biopharmaceutical medicines, branded generics, modernized traditional Chinese medicines and other pharmaceuticals in the People's Republic of China. It is manufacturing a range of 56 products, 23 of which are listed in the highly selective National Medical Reimbursement List (NMRL) and seven are listed in the Essential Drug List (EDL) of the People's Republic of China.

SOL long I don't own this (in fact I'm about 75% cash after dumping most of my ill-performing shorts), but that might change on Monday. I do currently have HSOL, which is another panel manufacturer that is showing on my best screen. Last week I sold the HRBN I was playing and it went on to further gains -- such is life! But this stock comes from the same screen as picked HRBN, so I'm hoping it will perform well. The purpose of the screen is to find the best 10 prospects as measured by the selection criteria. Reckon those who live by the screen have to be ready to die by the screen.
SOL particulars: P/E 4.69 PEG 1.20 Price/Revenue 0.68 Price/Cash Flow NA Price/Book (MRQ) 1.33 ROA 11.76% ROE 34.39% Current Ratio (MRQ) 0.90 Total Debt/Equity (MRQ) 0.89 NOTE: MRQ - Most Recent Quarter Growth rates: Revenue 136.20% 69.18% 198.49% (1yr, 3yr, 5yr) EPS 300.12% 31.37% 140.84% Dividend NA% NA% NA%
I don't like the debt/equity ratio of .89 when combined with the current ratio of .9 -- it looks like they've over-extended somewhat and are having trouble paying the debt. But they were recently able to sell some convertible notes carrying an interest rate of 4.125% and a conversion price of about $10/sh. That tells me there are entities not afraid to loan them debt-consolidation money at reasonable rates.
Solar stocks have been hurt recently by a decision in Italy to cut subsidies for solar installations. Normally I wouldn't give a hoot in hell about Italian policies, but oddly enough, they had gone on a rampage the last couple of years and last year accounted for 21% of world solar panel installation -- who'd've ever thunk it! Especially considering their current shaky economic status. But then a few days ago the government hinted that they will probably leave subsidies in place for pre-existing projects. This had all been viewed as bad for the solar industry because it was a significant cut-back in demand. I think it might actually be a good thing for the industry because it's stupid to sell product to an entity whose ability to pay for it is questionable. I believe there will be significant pick-up in solar installations due to the Japanese nuclear incident and insistence by citizenry that the shift away from fossil fuel be to energy sources other than nuclear. Solar will get it's share of that along with wind. There's really not that much undeveloped hydro left in the world, and most hydro potential that still exists is in third-world countries who currently haven't much use for the power nor can afford it.
I reckon that's enough verbiage describing my pick. What shall we call it? Maybe Yclept's epistle to the Solarians?

burger ... wish you much good luck. Everytime I try one just ahead of earnings... Earnings reported way up and the bloomin' price goes down. Nobody seems to believe these Chinese small caps anymore due to the dozen or so that have screwed up one way or another. Maybe you can start to stem the tide.

I'm going to give my usual steed, urty, a week off.
Instead, I'm going to ride her evil twin SRTY. (The triple short Russel 2000.)
Long SRTY.

Someone reduced my options by taking TQQQ. So I'm just going to take a wild stab at a pick for the week. rovo SOXL Long This is a triple long play on the SOX index (Philadelphia Semiconductor Index) which has been beaten up quite a bit because of the damage in Japan. SOX appears to be recovering so I'll just jump on-board for a week. BTW: I'll be late posting the list and opening prices, again.

Well, most of my SOL daily gain (both in the contest and in real-money port) was lost to the gap-up -- reckon that's to be expected. Though I don't know who dumped the market clamshell in the last half hour when I was taking my nap. Hardly seems fair that they would sneak off with half your daily gains while one is just trying to take a nap. Oh well, there's always tomorrow, and if the after-hours action in SOL is any indication, it looks like I'm going to experience a sling-shot up at the open tomorrow. As Martha used to say (and for all I know, still does) -- "that would be a good thing". I had a birthday once, or at least so I am told. I do not remember it at all, but then, I was born at a very young age, and I don't remember anything about it -- which is probably another "good thing". I doubt it was a pleasant experience.

SlowbutSure, thanks for the "heads up" on uncle's birthday... I probably had notes on it from a long time ago. However, I can assure you that he's enjoying his day, because I know roughly where he is. He may not be checking this board this week, but someone might have a laptop where he is.
