I just don't know what to say. This is soooooooo bad it's hard to describe unless you've seen it, so take a look:
He doesn't know to shut up and stand at attention during the national anthem?
He wasn't aware to keep it BRIEF (Toasts to the Queen are NOT speeches)
He needed note cards-- sorry, Barry, no teleprompert-- which he then couldn't even read which is at the root of his problems. Maybe he should have taken a page from Sarah Palin and scribbled notes on his hand?

I think he needs to go around with those cards deaf people hand out explaining that he is unable to comprehend basic concepts and to please be patient as he fumbles around and screws everything up...

as opposed to another President who thought it was OK to rub a Chancellor's back? clearly, we have different customs in the US than other countries. we are also not so well-versed in the formal protocols of those other countries. it must be a slow news day....

"He doesn't know to shut up and stand at attention during the national anthem?"
This was the only really annoying part for me, when the national anthem of any country is playing and you are a guest of that country shut up until the final chord.

I think the event planner screwed up. The queen also called for people to lift their glasses to the people of the U.S. and the Obamas during her speech. Those words were directly followed by our national anthem.
Obama and the Queen had a schedule of events which called for them to give a toast and in both cases the toast was followed immediately by a national anthem. Very illogical and clumsy.
Queen handled it better but in either case I don't think it was anyone's fault but the person who set the event schedule.

Whoever on the President's staff who is supposed to be coaching him on protocol issues when traveling abroad and dealing with foreign dignitaries sure seems to be doing a less-than-stellar job, methinks.

It seems the problem is that the Obamas want only known and trusted people near them. None of the insiders have backgrounds in diplomacy it seems. This same problem affects many areas of the Obama presidency.

But surely there must be BOOKS out there on protocol, I'd think. I'm not expecting your average person to know the ins and outs and nuances of this sort of stuff, but I would think that a designated protocol person could look these things up....

The State Department has a school for things like this. It is under the Chief of Protocols, who is currently Panavic Marshall. Their functions include: Ceremonials Working with style, elegance and an acute attention to detail, the Ceremonials Division plans, executes and supports a wide range of ceremonial and official functions hosted by the President, Vice President, Secretary of State, and other high-ranking United States Government officials. Hillary has attended numerous white tie affairs with many foreign leaders, so she may be giggling under her hand-to-mouth pose, because it looks like until now the White House has felt immune to the need for such trivialities. The duties are summarized on the Chief of Protocol web site at: www.state.gov/s/cpr/All of that aside, anyone who has ever paid attention knows that you don't run your face during the honors being delivered through the ceremonial playing of the national anthem for any country. And to add to his insult, he offered the toast, but he never raised his glass to his lips. Should I wonder why?

I think it is pretty funny that PBP took a page from the Bush-Haters page and post things that are totally irrelevant to if this guy is actually a good president, just to smear him. If any Obama lovers balk at this, you have to admit, every time Bush did anything that any human might actually do by mistake (like choke on a pretzel) it was national news to prove how inept he was.
I hated it then, and I hate it now - but at least turn-about is fair play.

Molly, I think you are missing it. The purpose of this thread and all the posts dissing the POTUS are here for one thing and one thing only. To put up any dis and criticism of the man and the first lady as possible, that is it's purpose. That there really isn't any problem , even truth to the so called allegations, is not the thing. Irrelevant. To those who do so, this is considered humor. They are anything but supportive of the POTUS. Many had this feeling about him and naturally against his wife, children and any who support him before he was even given the oath of office and assumed the position. I am surprised you hadn't realized that from your observance of this zone and the posting done here, unless you did and really are just pulling my leg, and if so then I am the one who's leg is being pulled. If so, then me bad, very embarrassed.

desi, you bring in Obama's wife. She hasn't been mentioned before your post. But I wonder if she is still proud of "her country". Apparently she wasn't before her husband got the nomination from the DNC in 2008. At least that's what she said.

I believe what Deziloooo is trying to say is "Listen to me Molly and I will tell you who the trouble makers are, because you can trust me as I am left of center." or something along those lines.

Molly knows this board already. Just saying.... I almost feel sorry for Obama. Almost. Not quite. A good POTUS chooses the right people to do the right jobs to keep him from looking foolish. From the start Obama has chosen wrong people for most positions he had choice over.
