I know this is mostly a decluttering thread but I have progress. I didn't exactly get rid of anything but DH and I hit up Home Depot yesterday to get some supplies for a couple of projects. You know the ones that you keep putting up because they are small and don't seem important. But we taped up some of the leaks in our heating ducts( the seams had gaps) and re-caulked the tub last night. Taping the leaks took five minutes and within an hour we could feel the difference in how warm the house was.

Martivir- in my opinion if you made your home a more comfortable place then you posted on the right thread Congrats on getting your to do list done. I am really hoping that DH will get some projects done today- 2 out of the 3 lights in the family room are burnt out- would be really nice if he changed those bulbs today.

We still have a few more like weatherstripping some doors and some that have to wait till spring like caulking the windows. We've been in the house for a little less than a year now and that list of stuff we wanted to get done right away is still not complete. I will do a jig once the awnings are down. I know they help since the front of the house faces north but the house is never really bright because of them. I like my sunlight.

I haven't had much of a chance to get more items listed in the last few days. In February I made $210 on eBay and have cleared out a bit of space on my bedroom floor. It has given me encouragement that I can get all my floor cleaned up so I can actually see it all.

I was just over at Karen Kingston's blog, and I read something interesting:
"The red frequency is also used on a Space Clearing altar to place focus on spurring you into other types of action such as starting new projects or finishing old ones. In other words, it’s for overcoming all kinds of procrastination and inertia."
Karen advocates keeping a permanent altar set up in one's house. This does not have to be a Buddhist sort of altar; any religious sort of altar works. If you're Catholic, you probably already have one. Even if you don't have one, your religion doesn't allow for that sort of thing (I certainly can't think of any sort of Jewish equivalent), or you're not particularly religious, you can still try using splashes of color to motivate yourself. I'm thinking about getting/making a red tablecloth for the coffee table in the living room. It's easily visible, it serves as an altar of sorts (certainly it seems to be the focal point of the room), and it's one room I REALLY need to work on. Maybe it will help motivate me to finish cleaning it up. And if it works, I can move it from room to room!
You can also wear colored clothing to alter your mood. Wearing red when you need to get something done (like a planned chores on the weekend) might also help.

I remember that about red from the previous thread so I went out a few weeks ago and bought this big beautiful red begonia plant for DD's room. I keep it on her dresser. It really stands out in the room.

I got a box of stuff to the preschool's "garage sale", have a big bag of kids clothes to donate to a non-profit agency, and DH dropped off a box of stuff at the thrift store. (I like to spread stuff around, for some odd reason.) I also did clear out some of the boxes piled up in the dining room. And did clear out a lot of clutter from the playroom. It's much easier to vacuum in there! I don't think I'll get a whole lot done this coming week since the kids are on break, and we're doing our staycation getaway next weekend. I hate coming back to have to clean and wash everything. Sigh. But it is nice when we're relaxing during the staycation.

Last week I cleared some stuff out of my attic and took it to GW. I've also put some stuff on Craiglist but have only gotten one inquiry so far and unfortunately it didn't lead to a sale Hopefully I will be able to sell some stuff soon. I got my stockpile of groceries all sorted an organized on my wire metal rack in the basement. I have my "pantry corner" as I like to call it. I switched our trash companies because for the price we were paying for trash only pickup, this place will will pick up our trash+recycling so we not longer have to take it ourselves! And it would sit there for too long before we got the motivation to take it in. So this way, the only place we have to take it to is our curb! Yah!!

I got a large box out of my basement this morning. The person I was going to give it to fell through but I found someone else who wanted all those baby clothes. We have the small problem of the basement is a mess again because we used it as the staging area for my dad's basket raffle. At least this time cleaning it should only take about 20 minutes because half the mess is the pack and play and the kitchen table I put the legs back on to give us somewhere to work.

I started a new job in June - Yay! July was really hectic for me. This weekend I hope to clean the house and catch up on laundry, then hopefully I can settle into a routine of decluttering.

I need to get going on the spare room/my office closet before school starts. It's full of stuff.

I was surprised to find the old MSN board gone and it took awhile to find the WWIR again with google.
Anyway, this past week I finally cleaned up a portion of our mud room, where I've stored boxes of stuff we haven't unpacked since we moved into our farmhouse seven years ago. I tossed out 4 bags of junk no one is using, and killed four wolf spiders that had made that corner of the room their home. I purchased a clear plastic container and repacked items I am still keeping for now.
I also went through hubby's clothing again (he's a hoarder) and tossed out two bags worth of clothing that did not fit and were not worthy enough for GW.
After all this cleaning and repacking was done, I was able to remove two old cardboard boxes, which smelled of dust and mold.
My goal is to downsize the contents of my home and bring in the practice of feng shui.

sioux- I bookmarked and added these boards to my favorites so I wouldn't lose them HTH I am getting a lot done between here and DGMs. I need to get approval from the rental office to hang my curtains for my living/dining combo because they don't have a white backing...

mizbear, I haven't been to the old WWIR board since June 29, 09. I was doing very well in my debt pay off and reorganizing my lifestyle, but situations have caused some slippage. So, I'm making an effort to get everything back on track again.
I'm glad fall is here because I can start concentrating on the interior of my farmhouse instead of the exterior of the farm itself.
