sheila - wow! When you guys are done with your decluttering, maybe you guys should set up a side-business to help people (just in your area, to make it easier for you) sell their stuff on ebay for a commission. I know that I will not sell on ebay due to the hassles and all that. Even CL isn't something I want to deal with.

I was going to list more stuff on eBay today but I decided to relax on my day off since I have to work the next 6 days. I know later I will feel guilty for just sitting around today not accomplishing anything.

boo's mom: funny you say that- most of the members of my family are forever asking me how to sell stuff on ebay or list things on craigslist. When ever we have a garage sale I do all the planning and host it at my house too. ilovedolphins: I need to preface this by saying I don't go to church- but I believe I have heard that even god took a day off

I know and today I am thinking that I wasted a whole day not doing anything productive. But I also needed the down time because it seems like I am always doing something. I work 10 hours a day, then come home and exercise 30 - 45 minutes, then work on my home business.

sheila - I'd probably ask you guys too if I were your family! I have a ton of girls clothes that are new or like new from gymboree that really would be good to sell on ebay, since I check out ebay for some of the older lines. But, as I said, so much hassle and I had an experience with a crazy seller, so I can imagine what some of the crazy buyers are like. ugh! dolphin - that's great that you make time to work out after work! I do have some of those days that I just don't work on decluttering. Rejuvenation of the soul is good, don't feel guilty.

We have had buyers try to talk us in to canceling auctions so they could buy it from us outside of ebay but we tell them "no". Not going to cancel a bid for of lot of items and sell it to you for $9.50 when a smaller lot then ours sold last week for $45. Otherwise it's been pretty pleasant so far. No real hassles or drama. I figure we will come across some of that before it's all said and done.

Well- how did everyone do in their efforts this weekend? I didn't do so hot. We shipped out a few more boxes of ebay sales. My efforts to organize my office didn't happen. The Boy's closet needs another once over. And DH did not haul the couple of boxes of stuff to the thrift store. But it's a new week! Going to work on getting the office organized and the Boy's closet cleaned out. Then on Saturday DH can bring all the extra boxes to the thrift store. I feel like the Little Engine that Could

I did terrible this weekend! I had to work Saturday and was sick all weekend so Sunday I felt SO unmotivated. Ughhh. Hoping to turn it around this weekend. My goals: organizing the food items that I have started to stockpile. They have been accumulating in my very small pantry. I have one of those metal racks that are on wheels in the basement that right now has some junk sitting on it. Need to clean that stuff off and organize my groceries on it.

I managed to clear out a different corner in the playroom, got stuff to donate, and vacuumed the playroom and steam mopped the dining room, kitchen, and kids' rooms. I love my Shark navigator vacuum. It's so (disgusting and) addicting to see all the dust that settles in after a week. We used to have a bag vacuum, but even if it does get a little bit of dust when I'm emptying the cup (just wear a dust mask, since I have allergies), I'm loving the navigator. DH cleared up a table in the playroom and some of his things, like a computer monitor. Now, he just needs to take the stuff over to SA (since our usual donation place won't take the monitor). We'll see about this weekend, either the dining room (which always resumes clutter after a few days ) or the living room, which ends up being the holding area for stuff until DH does a donation drop.

I worked all weekend but have gotten paid for 99% of my first round of ebay auctions. That was $150 worth and only 2 small shelfs of clutter shipped out. So I know I have a ton of stuff to get through. I am hoping to list a lot today and tomorrow.
I am not buying any food this month so I can clean out my pantry and freezer that are so disorganized and full.

ilovedolphins: Good job on the ebay stuff! Did you come to an understanding with your kids regarding their continued use of your house as storage central?
gardengirl: I need to go through my pantry as well. We have been pretty good about not over buying lately. But what we have in there still needs to be organized.

In October I moved from a large townhouse to a farm house style single family house with only 1200 sq ft. So I have had to get rid of a lot of stuff. I have donated things I've been hauling around for 20 years or so. I'm also trying to go thru masses of papers and recycle/shred all things no longer necessary. I'm very lucky that my job allows us to use their shred service. As for feng shui I make it a point to keep the toilet lid closed and the bathroom door closed. Also my bed faces east and unused doors are covered with drapes. It took me years to let go of things and now I'm really on a mission to declutter and divest.

I've been doing so badly on the paperwork pile it literally woke me up last night. I got up super early, spent about 90 min on it and got through most of it. I always say I won't let the papers go, but I always do. Grrr. At least I feel better now!
Kudos to Sheila, ilovedolphins and you other ebayers - Craigslisters!

ilovedolphins, forget storage fees. My parents told I had till the end of January to get my stuff out of their basement or it was going to charity. It worked. Thing is that you have to be willing to follow through. I still have a couple of things down there but nothing near what I used to.
dolphins, every time you go to their house (or they come by you) hand them a box of their stuff. Or simply tell them they've got until X to get it out of your house. Then followup.
The only stuff left in my parents house is my Lego collection (boxed and in their attic.) And that will be coming to my house as soon as my toddlers are old enough to not eat them...

Since I was in a rush to get to work this morning, I neglected to mention that what woke me up was the fact that in the pile were papers allowing me to cancel my complementary health insurance plan and join DH's employer's, which means a savings of 150/mo for me. (We have yours-mine-our accounts).
I sent the paperwork registered this morning, which means I will be saving 150/mo!

I have started taking a box of things to the kids to see if they want them. If they don't then I sell or donate them. They both live about 120 miles away. Most of their stuff is toys from when they were small. Most of the clutter I hate to say is mine. They do have a few boxes of when they moved two households into one but my daughter plans to go through those this summer.
I made about $170 in January and so far $70 in February selling clutter on eBay. The only problem is that the items were all small, like stickers, so it hasn't put much of a dent in the clutter. This weekend I hope to list my treadmill and stepper in a local paper.
I have quite a few packages to get ready to ship out tomorrow and then I hope to clean a little bit, exercise, and list a few more items today.

I also forgot that I wanted to bag up at least one bag today and drop it off at a place in town that sells second hand items.
I need to also get started on my taxes. I am usually done with them by this time of year so need to get a lot accomplished today.

Hello Everyone!
I am So excited that I finally have some progress to post about! It has been about 2 weeks since I have really had a chance to do any decluttering...but Today...I cleaned out under my bathroom sink and my bathroom linen closet. That included all kinds of things including medication. It is all clean now!
I feel a new sense of energy in the decluttering process!

I told 2 of my nieces that I need them to pick out a day when they can come and help me dig out the baby boy stuff. I've got a sucker, er, taker for them... I requested they find a day between now and Easter. They're in high school and 1's good at being a pack mule and the other's good at organizing/cleaning.

Our microwave died last week I used it and it was fine, but the same day DH used it and he said it was sparking inside like there was aluminum inside but there wasn't. I tried all weekend to give it away on Freecycle, but there were no takers. Anyone know how I can dispose of this appliance?

success! I finally cleaned out my work bag. Shredded all the extra junk, organized the mail I have to deal with. Threw away the garbage. Darn back went from weighing 10 lbs to 1 lb I bet. Going to really try to work on my office after the gym today. Hopefully the people we have stopping by tonight to get our extra sofa will be speedy so I don't get off schedule. ilovedolphins: WTG on the ebay and on having a plan to get the kids' stuff out of your house. cheerleadingmama: Ok, you have shamed me. I have been trying to work up the motivation to go through my under bathroom sink cabinet. I will put that on the list for this week. I know I have a lot of junk that can be tossed out. Why oh why do I keep all of my empty make up containers?

Today and yesterday I shipped a couple of bigger boxes out of my house that was sold on eBay. I am starting to feel a little better seeing larger items go. But I still have a ton of stuff to get rid of and selling on eBay does take up quite a bit of time.

DH got rid of the microwave. He took it to a metal scrap yard. He was going to just throw it away in the garbage last night! I told him, you can't do that!! So he got the idea to call a scrap yard. He got $3 for it. Better than nothing! He also took 2 car batteries that he's had sitting by the garage for so long. Got $4 for each of those too.

I have taken all the odds-n-ends boxes out of the bedroom & consolidated them with those in the library. Now that the corner of the bedroom is empty, the space looks a lot larger.

If I would unscatter all my piles and make one big one, my bedroom wouldn't look so horrific.

The extra sectional is gone Someone picked it up on Monday night. Today there is a lady supposed to be coming by to pick up our treadmill. Plus it's forecasted to hit 50 degrees in MN today so DH has promised to work on the garage. Doing the happy dance. The house is starting to look very clean and streamlined. So much easier to find and put away things when they all have a logical place to be. ilovedolphins: Really impressed with your ebay sales. 26 items is a huge accomplishment.

I packaged up 6 packages to mail out on Tuesday. I hope to get about 10 more items listed on eBay today. I hope to get all of the items listed and sold or given away by June.
