For those of you that were on this thread, it was a great thread all about Feng Shui and decluttering. I don't want to see it die so I'm creating a back up over here!

Does cleaning out the trap in your kitchen sink count? Kidding! I had a bunch of stuff I was going to go through, only the sink took precendence. My goal for the next week is: Paint at least 1 room.

I haven't gotten to work on anything specific this weekend. =( I suppose, probably won't until after the holidays. I can hope though.

Glad you all found the thread and are posting! I think this time of the year is hard for everyone. I have a 5-day weekend starting tomorrow so I have NO excuse to not get some stuff done around the house.

My DH decided to do some decluttering, and he threw out a check to me with his crap. I had to dig through the trash to fish it out!

kgb - at least you found it!
I have a prepaid rebate debit card that I keep forgeting to use. I just want to use it in one shot and not having to remember the balance and all that. My credit union doesn't have a MC machine, only Visa. darnit!
How do you do happy faces? copy and paste? eta: I just found the faces in the modify/reply section. Hmmm, interesting. I was doing the quick reply....

I did it! I think I used my 5-day weekend to its full capacity. As much as I could with a 9 month old anways! I got 5 huge bags of stuff together to take to GW. I organized my bedroom closet. I pulled out all of DD's clothes that she has outgrown and ones she has received from her cousin and sorted all by size and put them in bins. Even dusted/vaccuumed the entire house. DH must have been inspired by me - he did some work in the basement this weekend! You know how that has been an ongoing battle for me, trying to get him to do some work down there. Yah progress!!

gardener - glad you got stuff done! I only had a 3 day weekend, but I did manage to do a bunch of vacuuming yesterday and started going through the kids' toys to donate. We also picked up a couple more plastic bins for toys. I'll have to do it in the evenings since I'm not taking off anytime soon.

gardenergirl- Could you edit your OP and correct the spelling in the title. The correct spelling is actually FENG shui. It was a mistake on the msn board that was never corrected. Thanks!
I have a 4 day weekend coming up. Friday is a holiday and I took Monday off. I will get all of the Christmas stuff packed away and hope to start sorting through and getting rid of a bunch of CRAP!

Feng shui and one of the things my asian friends told me. You never ever sell your first home once it is paid for.

I am still plugging away at the decluttering. Yesterday I went through all my closets and dressers. I pulled out the pants that I need repaired (my aunt re hems them and fixes the buttons for me and she is visiting this weekend). There were about 7 pairs. I pulled out a large garbage bage full of clothes that are way too small, not comfortable or way too big. Those are all getting donated tomorrow. With the rest that was left that I definately wear, I completely organize, hung properly and put the suits in covers. The closets look great and I can see and find everything! Feels great!! On another note, with the body decluttering that Stormy has inspired - I finally lost a few pounds!! Yeah!! I am down 5 pounds over the past 2 weeks - just got on the scale this morning! I was thrilled - now I need to keep it up through New Years with all the yummy food we will have at our party.

constanz - I didn't realize it was spelled incorrectly on the MSN board! Sorry. I changed my OP so hopefully from now on the replies will be spelled correctly. Thanks!

Hi All - I love the idea of de-cluttering and simplifying one's life. I recently separated after 18 years of marriage. I downsized into a 2 bedroom apartment and know it will be essential for me to stay organized, w/minimal clutter in order to live in such a small space. My goal is to finish unpacking the last 2 boxes that have been lurking in a corner before the New Year.

There is a whole lot more. Direction of front door. Where the sun rises in reagards to your bedroom. The house number. 13 is unlucky for Europeans. 13 is a lucky number for Chinese. It drives some realtors batty.

Oooh is this about decluttering and organizing...which I love? Anything about how to arrange furniture...which I know nothing about?

chloe - the original thread had a poster who would post about the furniture arrangements and decor factors. But, she no longer posts. Not sure if anyone else keeps up with the details of feng shui.
We mainly just use the thread now to help keep us motivated with decluttering, cleaning and organizing. And I need the motivation!

Just a quick reminder from the original thread on MSN, an often recommended book is "Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui" by Karen Kingston. It's a great, easy read, if you can get your hands on it! I may re-read it myself this weekend over my long weekend off. That's half my problem though...I need to actually follow through and DO something, not just read about it, think about it, etc. I also love Peter Walsh's book "It's All Too Much".

This thread really got me interested in the theory of Feng Shui. I went to the library and picked up a few books, and I also got a few more from paperbackswap dot com. I am the director of a school that teaches massage therapy and they learn about some eastern thought that connects nicely with Feng Shui so that has peaked my interest too. I have been reading up on it for about 2 weeks now and then. I will start posting some of the ideas that I find interesting as I am reading to share.
I started looking at this board initially for the Feng Shui, and it turned into inspiration to get my life organized again. So glad that this thread was brought over!!

Well now that the New Years Eve Party is over....it is time to reclaim my house. The goal for tomorrow and the rest of this week is to take all the decorations down, pack away the ones that I will continue to use, and get rid of the ones that are broken or I just don't put out cause I don't care for them anymore. Basically I want to make sure that all my Christmas decorations are organized and put away properly. Once that is complete, the next task is the rest of the bins down in the basement that are storing SO MANY THINGS! Other holiday decorations, momentos from the past that I wanted to keep, collections I have but can't display until we finish the basement....and who knows what else...that is the problem. I completed half of the basement for the party and got rid of over 16 bags of garbage and 10 boxes to goodwill. Now it is time for the other side.... Good luck to all of you with your cleaning and organizing in the New Year! And to the body decluttering that some of us have taken on....I gained 2 pounds back over the past 2 days - need to get that back off and keep on going with that as well!

I don't know what got into me this weekend but I was in the cleaning mood! DH has been after me for a while now to get rid of stuff we don't use a lot in the kitchen. DD took a 2 hour nap yesterday so while was was napping I took everything off my hutch in the kitchen, went through everything, got rid of what I didn't want. I have all of my vintage fiestware displayed on this hutch so I cleaned all of it. It looks so much nicer now! DH even commented on how much better it looks.

Well, I did work on the toys in the playroom. Not done yet, but we have a box of toys set to donate, and I've organized some of the toys we're keeping into the plastic bins to clear up space.

I've asked one of the moderators, Virgil, to copy over the information from the original thread on the MSN message board. There was some great information on it and I really did not want to lose it. Not sure where it will end up, but it at least it will be over here on the proboards so we can refer to it.

Virgil did copy over the thread. I suggest we continue using this one, and use the old one as a reference only. The old one is spelled wrong and I don't know if there is a way to change it. What do you all think?

I agree, plus people can go back and reference keriamon's FS stuff. That older thread is really bulky and we've kinda morphed this one into decluttering.

That's fine with me.
I pulled out all the stuff I had bought or gotten from other people for #1 in the next size up. She seems to have really grown and none of her jeans fit anymore. I have to wash them and then clear out her dressers of all the stuff that's gotten too small. Maybe my sibling can sell the good clothes on CL for me....
