Yeah, online lecture and regular lab. I went in and looked at the options available last night and none of the other ones were 100% lecture. There was the one online only section and several hybrid where you went to lecture like twice a week and the rest was online, so I guess it's not as unusual as I thought. But seriously though...I suck at parenting this age. I'm completely lost now.

Maybe he'll change his mind before classes start and the schedule will be better then. Maybe. He doesn't seem to get it though that it means taking 7 credits instead of 3. He also registered for an online section for his Chemistry class. It wasn't like he was even trying to do that, he just didn't realize he did and now doesn't care. Advisor never pointed out that either. I need to start playing the Frozen soundtrack over and over... Let it go, let it go! Sometimes it can be better to take on more credits or courses than necessary. He can drop without jeopardizing a scholarship if he finds the workload excessive or he isn't ready. Also with math and science it's really hard to take a few years off and pick up where you left off, or get all the higher level courses you need without prerequisites out of the way. It's good that he wants to hit the ground running. He'll be ok

Most schools have a time frame where you can drop a class or two and get your money back. As long as he stays at the amount of credits to retain his scholarship if he finds a class doesn't work he can drop it and take it again later.

He'll be ok [img src="https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/smile.gif" alt=" " class="smile" src="//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png"] It's just that he's taking a science class to satisfy a gen ed that all his chemistry and physics already are. He has to take courses in something like 5 cores and 4 different "themes" to satisfy the gen eds and most courses are double-dippers. They cover one core and one theme. The engineering degree doesn't leave a lot of room for gen eds, so in the 4 year plan they have you taking double-dippers for all of the gen eds, which comes to 4 total double-dipping. He picked Oceanography. It covers Physical Science core and Environment theme, so he's really just getting the 3 credits for Environment, so he'll have to take another class to cover a core he is short. Oh...plus he took the optional 4 credit version with the lab instead of just the 3 credit lecture which is all he needed.

It's a set tuition amount no matter how many credits he takes and no refund for dropping. They set the tuition amount at 13 credits and anything over that is free, but if you drop below 13 you're paying more per credit. You have to apply to go part-time to get the per credit rate.

Your job at this point isn't to provide answers. Which is hard. Its to provide direction, guidance and ideas about how he can find answers. Telling him the questions YOU would ask his advisor. Making sure he knows what things like add/drop and office hours mean and when you would use them. Making sure he knows about the writing center and other tutoring options available at his school... telling him how important you always found it to read a syllabus thoroughly, and keep a calendar, etc... shit like that. Other people get to have the answers now, and he will learn to sink or swim a little. First semesters are learning experiences... don't panic if his grades aren't perfect first semester... but do encourage him to employ helps early if needed for a tough load.

He'll be fine! My medical school kid SUCKED in her first 2 years of undergrad. As in 'are you sure you want to stay in college?!' bad! She stuck with it, graduated, worked a year, got a Masters, got into a good medical school, is doing great now.

The good news - DH has an unofficial diagnosis of tension headaches. The good news - they ran all sorts of tests and his heart, lungs, and brain are clear with no signs of stroke, lesions, or bleeding. He's working from home today.

The girls got to perform for me and DH last night. Gwen ended up liking it more than she thought she said it was much easier to do it for us compared to almost 300 people on stage. Recorded it and put it on facebook for the grandparents.
I bought them little $5 bouquets of roses like they would get after the recital that delighted them. Freddy's for dinner and ice cream afterwards. It was a good night.

oped (or anyone else). Have you had any experience with the MEL Science kits? melscience.com/US-en/I signed Carrot up for the Kiwico kits and he's done a few of those and really enjoys them, but he pretty much just builds and tosses in the corner, so not sure I want to keep it up. Chemistry is something that he really shows an interest in (loves his periodic table cards and watching youtube shows where they do experiments). Normally I would not (could not) be spending all this money on stuff like this, but it looks like this summer will not have much in the way of childcare costs.

I do not! A lot of the cool subscription stuff started after my kids were that age. Not sure if that’s all bad or good 😜

I think he'd love this. They have a deal right now if you sign up for 12 months prepaid 3 of the months are free. I'm afraid to commit $300 up front though.

Buy him 'the backyard ballistics' book. Trust me, you won't regret it! 🤣🤣🤣 I will! He also wants the "52 Random Weekend Projects" book. He LOVES watching the King of Random and all their crazy experiments. Last week he found a youtube channel that taught him how to draw guns (and other things) from Fortnite. While I'm not thrilled he has an arsenal taped to his bedroom wall right now, I am super happy he found something he likes to do that involves drawing, which he never did before. If it gets him using a pencil to work on his grip/fine motor skills I'm for it.

5 year olds are terrible negociators. "I want to stay in the bath!" "Okay you can have 10 more minutes" "No I want 5 more minutes!". Okay you win five minutes it is.

I left mine in the tub as long as they wanted, as long as the water stayed in the tub. C would play in the tub for an hour at that age.

Abby has discovered yoga. She is the most tempermental and aggressive yogi I have ever met. Pretty sure you're not supposed to be yelling at your sister to breath properly.

I bet you are relieved that the school is over. Do you have any plans for the summer with kids? Our kids' school was out the end of May and it's been weird to say the least. It might end up being a very long summer Got an invitation again from the relatives that invited us last month. The cousins texted DS directly. He was upset when we said he can't join them for an afternoon of playing board games. It's summer, I wish they would do something outside, that would be totally OK. This would be people from 3 different families and one of them is part of a blended family household so there's at least 2 other families they have contact with on a probably pretty regular basis. Don't forget, these are the people who were traveling back and forth visiting the previous few months and have seen their posts about other social gathering they attended. Just no

We're sending them to at least 1 of the ninja camps for kids. It's 4 hours, 4 days a week. We've got some camping planned but it's going to be a boring summer I think. Supposedly we're at Stage 3 for reopening but a lot of the people I know aren't willing to risk it.
