A kid posted on Instagram that they were going to bomb and shoot up my daughter’s middle school. The post has been removed and the school says the situation has been handled but the parents are upset. My DD says ‘all’ her friends are staying home tomorrow but we’re sending her to school. I imagine there will be extra security. We got a call from K's school a couple of weeks ago stating that someone had made a threat. The school worked with the cops and the situation was resolved. School would be in session and they would increase security. Somebody did that at Creighton when I worked there. Dumb ass used his Creighton email (which is your name.creighton.edu), logged onto a Creighton computer (they keep logs of who accesses them) AND did it from the Creighton library so they had him on a time stamped video. He wanted to get out of a test is the rumor I heard. Well guess what buddy you succeeded! You never have to take a test again!

She's 11 and in 6th grade. TBH I don't think the initial threat caused much fear but last night all the kids were texting one another and whipped up a sort of frenzy. My daughter was getting texts from friends who were not going in today warning her to stay home because she'd get shot. I was seriously considering sending angry texts to a bunch of moms last night asking them to tell their kids to knock it off!

I'd be tempted to talk to the kids parents too, but I know that is the reality of the world we're in now.

Parent teacher conferences today. Kind of tough in that E's was "you're performing a grade level above and you're perfect", to C's that was "you're performing a grade level above and it's not good enough" (driven by me but his teacher agreed). He gets good results with no effort and I think figuring out that balance is important but I just feel like he's getting to that point where he checks out if it isn't easy. Trying to build him up and hold him accountable is tough.

Oldest stayed home sick today. I don't know if he's just done with high school or he really has something going on. He's missed two Saturday speech meets and two days of school in the past couple weeks. I was super tempted to take the WiFi router with me to work today.

I've totally felt like C was faking sick lately. I feel like I need to talk to them about mental health days and see about building a couple of those into their year. Yesterday I was practically begging E to stay home sick while she's insisting she's fine through coughs and sniffles.

DS is miraculously cured again. It's always the same, he wakes up saying he's nauseous and feeling like he's going to puke (which he claims he does later in the morning) and around noonish he's fine. I told his Dad I think he's pregnant.

raeoflyte or NomoreDramaQ1015 or anyone else - do you have recommendations for books about having to put down a pet? Our boxer is 11.5 and hasn't been great for the past six months (arthritis and general old age), but yesterday he fell over four times, which is unusual for him (he does sometimes lose his balance on our laminate floors and need help) and DH even had to hold him up to eat his dinner. He is better today (no falling yet and stood for breakfast just fine), but I feel it's just a matter of time. Of course, I have thought that for six months. But I want to be prepared for if/when I have to explain this to the kids.

I don't have any books unfortunately. We've usually had lead time to talk to the kids about what is going to happen and give them the choice to come with (both have turned that down each time). The couple sudden ones are the worst and hardest to recover from. Our lab won't make it to the end of the school year so we've started those conversations. I'm sorry. It always suck to lose them and hard to help the kids through it.

I told his Dad I think he's pregnant. Nausea and puking are my personal signs of anxiety. Might be something to talk to him about. He has lots of final moments and changes coming which is stressful.

I still can't decide if he's faking or not. I came home a little earlier than expected from work yesterday (since I didn't have to pick up either kid), and when I rolled down the window at the mailbox I could hear the music blaring from my house (the mailbox is about a football field away from the house). Get in and he's playing video games and had just recently polished off an entire pizza.

She hasn't expressed any more anxiety about going back to school. I think it's all blown over, especially since the school publicly announced it was a hoax.

Forgot about babies innate ability to sneeze right in your eye balls. Archie got me three times in a row yesterday. Told him if I get corona virus from him he's no longer my favorite nephew.

How’s everyone doing? C had school cancelled yesterday, and then he’s off through the 23rd for spring break + teacher in-service day. My hunch is that they’ll cancel classes that entire week at a minimum, but the email we received yesterday was that our district plus the other 5 districts in our county were monitoring recommendations from our state and county health department and would keep us all updated. It seems like they have decided they’ll all do whatever it is they do together in this, which is (hopefully) a good thing.
After seeing our neighboring county’s library system was getting ready to close for the rest of the month, we went to the library first thing this morning to get the ton of stuff we have on home, plus let the kids more or less get whatever books they wanted. Which was good since our county library system announce they were closing through the end of the month. Now to lay low. I wish the weather would improve - that would make staying at home a little better as the kids could play in our backyard. Oh well. We will clearly make do.

We went into isolation mode after the kids got off school on fri. Only 2 cases locally but with UC my husband is immunocomprimised on a good day much less still recovering from surgery. I had to see him on a ventilator for 3 days in Jan - never want to be in that position again. I also heard at least one code there every day. So yeah I'll over-react and own it.
Kids on are spring break this week. So far only one local district has cancelled school. Will be decision for us if our private school doesnt.

We're stil in session but everthing non class related was cancelled. Hell hath no fury like a 5 year old who was just told no field trip to the Children's Museum.
Gwen is upset that all her concerts are cancelled and I'm pretty sure I'll be getting an email soon that her dance recital will also be cancelled.
As a parent and someone who works out of state I'm freaking my shit. My company so far is taking a "tough shit" stance unless you have a doctor's note proving you have the virus (and I get tested where exactly?).
So I'm poised to lose my job depending on if the country fully shuts down. DH likely won't lose his but no pay.
My parent's business could go belly up if all resturants are ordered to close. Maybe they can weather a month or two but if dad's full time job shuts down they are screwed.
I am at a total loss. This is something that can destroy us with little chance of recovery. I'm not hoarding ammo or beating people up for TP but I'm close to tears every day.
Next person who tells me employers and our government will have to do something will get punched. When have either of those EVER cared for the little guy? Why start now? They got theirs.
We should have predicted this and stopped buying lattes so we could handle complete financial devestation. We deserve this for our poor planning.
Hope the conservative judges and having rich white men in office is worth it for all the peons who voted them in. They are showing exactly how much you're vote mattered to them.

Kids are out until at least the 30th, but we'll see past then. We made it to the library before closing on Friday and stocked up thankfully. We don't have any distance learning set up in the district. Dd teacher just asked that the kids read as much as possible and journal if they want to. I am going to set up duolingo for each of them and going to raid our art stash to get some projects going. We're doing a mile walk or bike ride twice a day.
I encouraged the kids to play outside with neighbors yesterday and realized we probably shouldn't do that anymore. That's a hard call for me to make though. I did ask dd piano teacher to set her up for zoom lessons going forward and I'm 90% decided to take a break from the dojo until we see where this goes. I absolutely hate to do that but between the 4 of us someone always has something it seems. Even if it isn't covid19, no one wants to wonder about the person they're grappling with.
My work is ridiculously busy and there was an open house on the block yesterday that made it seem like no one is concerned about social distancing.

All PA schools are closed for two weeks, so we are out until at least the 30th.
Gymnastics sent an email that they are still open, but we will be skipping at least the next two weeks.
We are social distancing starting today - I don't plan on taking the kids anywhere while they are out of school. If I need something, I will go early morning or late night just me. But we should be able to make it two weeks, but might need milk next week.
Thankfully, I WFH a lot anyway, and my boss is completely cool with me being at home with my kids as long as necessary.
For DH, he is still working and will unless told otherwise (he works for the state). He could go all day without talking to other people (he drives around and inspects mine sites), and I have told him no eating out - but I doubt that will last one day.

And we're out. I am shooting for the following week off. That leaves me almost two weeks left to burn in case they extend it.
Will need to ask HR and my boss if maybe I can do half days for the remainder if called for. Then they at least get four hours of work out of me.
After that IDK. Guess we'll cross that bridge at the end of the month.

At this point, we still have to go in to work. I could do 95% of my job (at least) from home, though it would definitely make the team leadership/mentoring/training/teaching aspect harder. Unfortunately, not everyone on my team could do most of their job from home, so I think that is part of the holdup right now. I’m already off this upcoming week as we had planned on going somewhere over spring break, so we’ll see what happens over the next week. I think we’re going to end up going to rotating days at home/days at work in an effort to have less people in the office but still allow for people to get work done.
DH and I work at the same company, so we’re in the same boat.

Talked to my mom and MIL. They are willing to help. When I expressed my reluctance both said if they are going to go out they prefer to get it from the grand kids than from some dickwad at Walmart trying to take all the TP.

I’m in Washington state and schools are closed until April 24th at least, all bars and restaurants are closed to dining in and only allowed to do take out. I’m thankful to be a sahm right now bc I have zero people who could help with childcare if I had to work. DH is an ER nurse though, so I’m a bit worried about him. In some other countries health care works have been hit hard by the virus due to frequent exposure and being forced to work anyway bc there’s no one else to take care of people. We are in good shape to stay home for several weeks if need be. This whole thing is just crazy. I am wondering what the long range impact will be for families who can’t financially weather this, and I really feel for all the families scrambling for child care. I just hope all these measures work at least and aren’t for nothing.

Kids are out of school until 4/13. My Mom offered last week to keep them if necessary. Today, I'm splitting WFH and VAC. Tomorrow DH is WFH and the rest of the week the kids are with my Mom. Schools are setting up ways to get assignments and stuff to parents so the kids don't lose the entire month of learning.
K has strep and is on antibiotics until 3/23. I'm slightly concerned that the rest of us will get strep. MIL was hospitalized for pneumonia on Thurday and released over the weekend. But we're staying away from them this week, just to be on the safe side.

Just an anecdote - Harper has had scarlet fever once and strep twice in a three-month period (she's on a 21-day course of antibiotics and had steroids for a few days for this third round). Nobody else got sick, and we are always sharing cups, food, etc. I hope your family stays healthy!

Pregnancy is so unfair. I’m pregnant but will be miscarrying any day.
I have my 8 week appointment on Thursday and the baby was measuring 5w5d. They thought I may have ovulated late so did a blood test on Thursday with another on Saturday. The doctor called me yesterday morning to tell me that my numbers didn’t double like they should have. Instead, Saturday’s numbers was pretty much the same as Thursday’s. Not good. Today I’ve noticed some blood as I wipe. It hasn’t started yet but it’s coming. I go tomorrow for a follow-up appointment but I expect to discuss options. 😭
