As part of a push to make school meals healthier, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has proposed removing white potatoes from all federally subsidized school breakfasts and limiting them dramatically in lunches. The proposal is intended to reduce the amount of starchy vegetables, such as French fries and Tater Tots, students eat. Starch-heavy corn and peas are also being cut in favor of leafy greens and orange vegetables, such as sweet potatoes. Yes, not all potatoes are created nutritionally equal. But the potato is not going down without a fight. The National Potato Council is, naturally, an outspoken critic of the plan. abcnews.go.com/US/usda-proposal-cuts-potatoes-schools/story?id=13621442This could really hurt potato farmers.

I guess someone will need to find a way to grow black potatoes. Since someone made the claim years ago that a French-Fry is no longer a vegetable after being fried, are they still going to serve those to the school kids? Did they ever take out all the soda and candy machines? If so, did it stop the students from bringing their own candy and soda to the scools for lunch and breaktime? No! We really need to go after and educate the parents on healthy living and diets in the home. This will teach kids to learn to eat healthy and live better lives for themselves. Eventually, we will all go back to eating beans and rice for meals. Then we won't beable to eat the beans due to gas/farting issues thats destroying the ozone, so I guess we all will be eating rice for lunc, breakfast and dinner. I don't eat a lot of potatoes or rice becasue they are starchy foods and starchy foods turn into sugar. So I limit my intake on these tow items.

There is one bright spot ,I guess, in any move toward a totalitarian system.....it removes the need to think at all as all decisions are made in advance for one by the state.

well I guess potato bars are out then That would be criminal. I'm also getting worried about this whole thing expanding to the point wherein the production of Vodka will be jeopardized.

My Gov is trying to penalize fat people on welfare to make them get with a health program or go elsewhere to find free medical.

My Gov is trying to penalize fat people on welfare to make them get with a health program or go elsewhere to find free medical. This is wrong. What next? Toss all the people out of the section 8 housing programs that cannot afford housing to save money. WTF is the word coming to when you have all these politicians wanting to take away the people's rights, and at the same time not live by the rules they are trying to force upon all others based on their incomes. REVOLUTION! Take Brewers ass to the border and toss it over.

Nah-- we like her, but trying to fine the fat welfare people is over the top. She has a point, but that is like.. one of those crazy ideas people think, but never say. Never going to fly....

I can't believe all these years that the Amish people that have been milking their own cows are now subject to this kid of scrutiny. They are even attacking the Amish about their livestock and poop that's destroying the Ozone layers. What a crock of crap this is.

well I guess potato bars are out then That would be criminal. I'm also getting worried about this whole thing expanding to the point wherein the production of Vodka will be jeopardized. that would be disastrous! in all seriousness, there is some merit to this, IMHO. most school districts count potatoes in any form as a vegetable - this means that your kid can count Tater Tots as his veggie. have any of you ever watched Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution? I don't catch it often, but I fully admit that my own eating habits get squeaky clean for a few days after I do....and they aren't really that bad to begin with.
