Lak-- IMO it is not about what you CALL your God, it is in how you represent your God.

I have been an atheist since the age of reasoning. I believe in no god or Supreme Being I only believe in myself. I am responsible for all my actions and have no one to blame but myself if I make a mistake. No one can forgive me I alone must accept those burdens. I do not need to pray far anything, prayers are only words of wishes unfulfilled. The action I take to attain these wishes will make them come true not even 1000 prayers can help with that. For the people that believe you must be religious in order to be good let me remind you our prisons are full of good Christians. I have never been arrested and will never be. I do not bash religious people and I don’t have an agenda to make every one an atheist. I like Christmas the Nativity, Easter and the bunny. I also encourage every young person to attend some religious church. I am strictly against religious teaching in public schools but it’s great for a religious school. I will not let you teach my children creationism in school but you can take them to church with you if you like. Some of the very best behaved and morally upright people I know are atheists. Really, really good people who would give me the shirt off their backs. Unfortunately they are still sinners. I sometimes think it is more difficult for people who are blessed with good self-discipline and self-control have a more difficult time seeing themselves as sinners. You know, the study didn't say anything about what form God takes. Just that people seem naturally disposed to have faith in God.

It's reasonable to assume that if we have a Creator, we instinctively know it-- by design. Romans 1:20 proclaims: I wanted to compliment you on this post, Paul. Says it all.

This is what more people need to tend too, get over this My god is better than your god, or DON'T SHOVE YOUR GOD IN MY FACE crowd.

Sure it is harder for people that believe in sin to strive towards a life without it. The others do not believe, so they do not care.

Agree, cme. Most religious wars I see on board issues are by people that don't want to respect other's rights to believe. I liked his post, also.

Poeple are making a basic mistake in all their arguments either pro or con. The concept that is being discussed is belief in a God or creator, established religion is its own beast separate and distinct from a creator. Arguing that the Jews are the chosen people has nothing to do with it and is worng BTW as well, even from the Jewish perspective. Personal responsibility is a major part of organized religions and would be important regardless if you believe in a creator.
I think that as humans we need in our rational minds to have something larger then it all to connect to and we do this instinctively. I think that this is and of itself a noble quest regardless of where it leads you and is required as a thinking person.

Believing in something is better than nothing, IMO. But I sure do not like the people that choose as their God the earth and then go around driving all of humanity crazy with it. Why the angry God? Mine is much kinder.

No it sounds very confused and not well thought out But who are we to question her beliefs? I don't question her belief I question the logic of it. Even when you believe there should be a substantial amount of facts to butress up that belief.

it sounds reasonable to me. why is her incarnation of a god any less important to her than your incarnation of a god is to you?

What actual facts exist that there is an actual higher power-something greater than ourselves?
That is why it is called faith.

That is why it is called faith. do you (not Tenn!) think less of people that believe in a different god that happens to be human, or just those that don't have a human picture associated? it's sad that the more people are into their own religion, the less likely they are to bother trying to understand anyone else's.

Picture omitted... Are All Religions Equally Crazy? Are less established religions really crazier than older mainstream ones? Or are mainstream religions just more familiar? Does any religion make more sense than any other? Atheists, by definition, don't think any religion has any reasonable likelihood of being true. And yet, for some weird reason, we're often asked to choose between them. Believers often accuse us of ignoring more moderate and progressive religions while we trash the low-hanging fruit of hard-line fundamentalism. We're accused of disregarding sophisticated modern theology so we can zero in on the simplistic faiths held by the hoi polloi. (Neither accusation is fair; many atheists, including myself, have taken aim at both modern theology and progressive religion, and in any case fundamentalism and other widely held religions are valid targets for critique -- but that's another rant.) Yet at the same time, many believers seek our approval for their particular beliefs. "Sure," they'll say, "a lot of those other religions are silly -- but my religion makes sense! Don't you agree? Don't you? Huh?" Much More: www.alternet.org/belief/150885/are_all_religions_equally_crazy/?page=entire

... Are All Religions Equally Crazy?... In the beginning, God created the earth, and he looked upon it in His cosmic loneliness.
And God said, "Let Us make living creatures out of mud, so the mud can see what We have done." And God created every living creature that now moveth, and one was man. Mud as man alone could speak. God leaned close as mud as man sat up, looked around, and spoke. Man blinked. "What is the purpose of all this?" he asked politely.
"Everything must have a purpose?" asked God.
"Certainly," said man.
"Then I leave it to you to think of one for all this," said God.
And He went away.
Not way are they equally crazy. Mine is crazier than most if not all.
