Part of the reason I haven't had kids yet is because I'm PETRIFIED of potentially needing a c-section. Aren't you more likely to need one the longer you wait? Just sayin.

![](http://us.social.s-msn.com/s/images/emoticons/thumbs_up.gif) Part of the reason I haven't had kids yet is because I'm PETRIFIED of potentially needing a c-section. (Going forward with trying now anyway, because time has decided that I better start trying now, while I still have a couple of years before the dreaded "advanced maternal age") Pfft. I had 2 at "advanced maternal age." I needed c-sections because the first one I grew really big, and the second one, labor just didn't progress, neither related to my age. And the drugs you get after a c-section are pretty good too. I'll be 33 in late June. I figure by starting now, I've got a roughly two year window to see if I can get pregnant naturally. (My mom needed drugs for the first two kids, but had a surprise on the third. No idea if I'll need help as well.) As for the c-section, I know my fear is somewhat irrational, but it is what it is. No idea what I'll do if/when I actually get pregnant and am ready for delivery, but my rough "plan" based on what I've read so far is to try and "just say no" to pitocin. All hypothetical though! ;D Supposedly the maternity ward of my local HMO is pretty decent and has midwives, etc. Only problem is it's roughly 30 miles away. (I live in one of the lowest birth rate counties in the country, so my HMO does not maintain a maternity ward in my county.)

There was also the question of grad school, breadwinner career, living across the country from DH two different times, getting laid off, etc. It's finally at the point where I've run out of excuses to delay having kids. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

I had those fears too, but honestly by the time I got to the point of where I was due, I wanted that baby OUT by any means. I really didn't give a crap how they did it as long as she was OUT.
I had pitocin too and I am also glad I did because I would have gone psycho if my contractions had done what they did at 35 weeks.
They got regular enough that they thought I might go into labor, after six hours they stopped on their own. Which is good at 35 weeks because the closer I can get to 40, the better.
At 39 weeks, I would have murdered them if they had let the contractions stop. I am so relieved they gave me the pitocin because I went from 5cm to 10cm in an hour and she was born shortly thereafter.
I would have been a wreck if I'd had to sit there and wait for them to get regular again on thier own.
Before someone jumps on me yes I KNOW pitocin comes with risks, but it beat losing my sanity waiting for things to start up again after already having spent several hours at the hospital waiting for the show to get under way.

Says the guy who knocked up his teenage girlfriend ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) She was legal drinking age thank you very much! I was the stupid teenager. Too young and stupid to realize just how big of a potential mistake we could have been making. It all worked out though, which brings me back to my point; don't stress. It's just a kid. No big.

I did have a "touch" of pitocin with DS. When I asked them to define "touch" the nurse said something about a super tiny dose of 3 drops when the "normal" dose was 33 drops. I was laboring but DS hadn't dropped. The pitocin caused DS to drop in about 30 minutes and he was born shortly after that.

A couple years back I had a stabbing pain in my lower back - i thought it was just back pain but then I realized I had complete mobility (usually with back pain I was rather stiff)...my dad had a history of kidney stones so I figured that's what I had, so i went to the Doctor. I was pretty positive I had kidney stones, but the doctor insisted I come in the office...when I did he insisted on a urine test and then an x-ray (why? because kidney stones are popular drug abuser's ailment of choice!). It came back, yes I had a kidney stone. But it was small enough that if iI just drank liquids it would pass...
So, two tests (which were unneccesary, but because of CYA policies and regulations due to scumbag drug abusers I and insurance company had to pay for them) and a prescription for pain killers (that I didn't use because they made me dizzy and nauceous) for over $1000...and the treatment I received was to deal with the pain and drink a lot of water.
There's the waste and over utilization of healthcare dollars in action...
