You can also click your "Tools" Icon (the one that looks like a round gear) and set your zoom level higher than the standard 100% and ALL text will appear larger on your monitor.

I now have this blue side tables by subDevo thingee. It clashes horribly with the green of Spring Leaf. I wish for it to go away or at least to be a less obnoxious color. Help!

there is a thread on ee about this already.
short version is, it's here for new members, and has taken the place of the news fader. I MAY be able to change the color of it, but it will always clash with something.

The off white, gray color of the side bar is an improvement from the shocking blue color it started with.

While the color is better I still wish it would go away. Unless you click on it you don't know it has the How to and Coc stuff and it pretty much ruins people's avatars and tag lines. Right now on my laptop Bob Ross appears as: o Ross ill come to use and cut you. I would love for it to go away. I finally clicked on it and it expanded. I guess hide for me meant go away and it really was telling me "show" was my other option.

optimist, i'm not sure I understand. if you click the bar again, it goes back to the small side bar, so it shouldn't hide any part of an avatar or anything.

Could we embed the national debt clock in here somewhere or is that not possible or maybe to depressing? Just a thought.

Moon: I think I know what's causing Opti not to see part of Bob Ross's page.
I was just in the Earth Muffin thread, and the same thing happened to me. It was caused by an over-large image being posted on that one page, causing the left hand side of the page to stretch part way under the side-bar. She probably had that happen only on a page that had a large pictures posted Its page 353 - post # 10567.
Probably that will happen on any page with over-sized pics or large pics posted side-by-side.
ETA: I just checked and the same thing happens if large/oversized pics are posted in the Spiritual Health thread. It stretches the page so much it goes under the left side-bar.

thanks, SL. So maybe we/I need to look at putting in a code that will automatically resize pics to something that doesn't do that.

What happened to SL just happened to me on the Good Morning thread. I test my pics for size before I post, but some others don't do that.

Try a pic that's wallpaper sized. I find that's the size that drives the pages wonky.

Moon: the existing size limiter seems to work fine for me in IE 10, FF, and Chrome. It's set to max 700x1000 pixels. Going any smaller than this is too much of a restriction, IMO. Most displays should be able to handle a 700-pixel-wide image in the post contents. Furthermore, the sidebar uses something called "absolute" positioning mode, outside the normal layout of the page. It shouldn't affect the position or size of anything else on the page. The only thing that might happen is that if a user has a ridiculously small window size (e.g. < 800 px width), the bar will obscure a part of the miniprofile. These users might want to switch to "Lean n' Mean", which maximizes the available viewing space. And if users really want a 500px limit, I'm letting 'em know right now that I'm exempting myself from it. I'll also add in a "view full size image" option.

i think 700px wide should be good too. But my monitors are big enough that I don't have any problems anyway.

OK. I've verified that the limiter is in place and working for all browsers. And I've added the "Click to Expand" feature.
Posters whose browsers cause problems with the puppy image above will have to bite the bullet and use Lean n' Mean. It adds at least 200 pixels to the content space on the page, and it's easy enough to turn on and off.

That one is fixed. So will the really large pics now be resized or will we always be having wonky pages and no quick reply ?

Sugilite, try the imagesplosion thread (a.k.a. "morning, evening, night" thread) again. It should have all images respecting the size limits now.
