HI, Marsha!! Missed you this morning!! I love the bowl ramen, and that recipe sounds really good. I'm pretty good at taking something with not much going for it, rummaging in the fridge, and actually turning it in to real food!!! ;D My kids used to feel abused because I would never let them have the boxed macaroni and cheese they LOVED without adding chopped boiled eggs and diced fresh tomatoes to it. Poor abused babies. ;D

I already explained why this isn't a valid argument in a previous post.
Incidentally, your parents could tell you what to eat because you were a legal dependent of your parents. You were a child.
Do you suggest that the government should begin treating American citizens like children?
I thought that was precisely what you DIDN'T want?

Nope, I was living under their roof at 18 and could have legally gone. However, I was still in school and they were supporting me. I continued until I had graduated from college.
Since they were paying my bills, it was by their rules.
Let me ask you this, Shirina.....what did you think of those Katrina victims who used the government supplied debit cards for buying expensive designer purses rather than the intended housing/food/clothing that they had lost in the storm? Are you ok with that?
How is this any different?

No, I'm not "okay" with that, but that is an entirely different issue. In this case, the abusers of the debit cards bought items that the money was not supposed to be used for. Food stamps, on the other hand, are used to purchase food. Therefore, if a food stamp recipient chooses to buy pizza instead of a bushel of apples, food was still being bought.
Now, with the case of those Katrina debit cards, the government did not say, "Well, you can only use this money to rent a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment painted white on the outside and with a beige shag carpet in the living room." This is the kind of micromanagement you suggest should occur in regards to food stamps. You're trying to balance two extremes, with Katrina debit cards showing the extreme of too little control while food stamps exhibits the extreme of too much control.
See above.
Then they were treating you like a child even if you were not one. Apparently that's what you wish the government to do.

You hate being told what to do, but you want the govt to tell someone else what to do.....you don't want the govt to interfere with your life, but you want them to interfere with others and tell them what to do exactly right. now if you can't see why, well that's not my problem. whoever supports you, should be able to tell you how to use that support. I support myself(so I don't want/need to be told what to do) and those who can't or won't support themselves(should be told what to do) and that number is growing, imho needlessly.
