Sharona, A lot of us have complained about the problems resulting from EC, so I hope you don't feel too badly. Leanna

Thank you leanna and bluesclues. To Coffeegrl I want to apologize again. I tend to put my foot in my mouth which is why I only lurked for ages back on msn and when it got transferred over here. I should have not said "all newcomers". I should have said the newcomers that are a bit nutty because of the show and try to emulate them right out of the gate. sharona: Don't go back to lurking. It was just a misunderstanding.

Darlin Sharona,
If that's the worst thing you ever said, you've got nothing to worry about.
Because of my TBI & PTSD, I now have a short fuse and say whatever is in my head. Just this weekend I told one of my husband's relatives she couldn't understand accents because she had no exposure to people of other cultures. I basically called her ignorant in front of everyone.
I need someone to edit my mouth.

I went to Fry's yesterday to do my grocery shopping. I wanted to use RRs. Apparently they have written on their FB that they accept them and a local blogger has an email confirming it. But I haven't been able to get a copy of the email yet. Anyway, I went to a coupon friendly casher/manager (he usually pushes everything). He told me no at first since they are not on competitor list. I said Fry's posted on their FB they take them. So he shrugged and said okay. He did limit me though. I was able to use 3*$1, 3*$2, 3*$5. Neither of us knew if that was correct or not. But I was okay with it. I will still try to get a copy of that email and use them on my next trip. I would MUCH rather use RRs for groceries than at Wags. One because Wags irritates me. And two, I don't waste RRs on fillers I don't really want. I get the full 100% value of them. He treated them like coupons (limiting me to 3 like) but entered them in register as competitor Qs. Not sure if that is right. If they are comp, they won't get reimbursed. But I saw somewhere else online where Wags won't reimburse Fry's for their RRs (which makes sense since they put them out to entice people back into Wags). I heard they will scan but he didn't even try. Just manually entered. My Safeway just scans them in - they are MQ's - so should be reimbursed by the manufacturer, not Wags. When I mentioned above that I got a scare yesterday, it was because the cashier was confused between a RR versus a Wags coupon. They (Safeway) do not take Wags coupons, but they do take RR's. At least they still took 'em last night. Gulp. I am scared though that my system is going to be taken away from me. Duh. Here I was thinking Wags would have to reimburse. P&G would actually have to reimburse. Brain fart. See what happens when I repeat stuff I read on FB? lol Initially when he said no it was because he was thinking of it as a Wags Q, which I agreed is not a competitor. But explained they should take RR so he did.

I think the new couponers will slow down when they realize they are spending more out of pocket trying to chase all of the deals. I know I Chased too many at first, then I realized how much I was paying just in tax and I slowed down and realized I didn't need to get in on every deal that was out there.

I know I chase too many at first and realized I was spending to much just in tax. I absolutely agree! I was at Wags one day last week and saw a "new" couponer. She had her little notebook with everything written down and was buying ALL the RR items in the same transaction. Her total OOP was over $34 and I remember commenting to BFF that she had to be new and had a lot to learn about couponing and RR deals. I about fell over when I saw her total, but she was probably "thrilled" to get the RR's. Way too much OOP...way too much...

Hey, one time I said something on here that pissed someone off so much that they left this thread (old MSN days). I apologized on the board. I sent them an email apologizing. Too late. I realized that there was nothing more that I could do and we all moved on.

And speaking of new couponers, there is something REALLY strange going on at my CVS. Yesterday (mid-day) they had at least (12) of the Prep-H. I went in this morning to buy for my mom and there was ONE left on the shelf. This may not be unusual for a lot of your CVSes, but it is REALLY unusual for mine.

On the subject of new couponers...I found my stack of receipt envelopes that I collected when I was stockpiling three years ago. I bought a ton of stuff! I have a few items that I had to give away just because I realized there was no way I was going to actually use any of it, let alone all of it. Haven't hit it hard and heavy in nearly two years and, because of that, I'm back to newcomer status. lol. I line two or three deals here and there and go to it about once or twice in a blue moon. My BF was very surprised when I bought him six boxes of razor cartridges for less than a third of what it would have cost him. Did anyone see the post that I put out there about Meijer gift cards? I was given two $10 cards but there is no Meijer in my area. Anyone willing to trade them for a WAGS equivalent?

About the Extreme Couponning thing... Up until that show, I was the only person in all of my various circles of friends (except the hounds!) that used coupons. People would come over and see my very modest stockpile in the garage and say things like "Gee, got enough cereal?" when I had about 20 boxes. DH would brag about my coupon adventures and all the free stuff I got and people would look at me like I was the crazy coupon lady. Fast forward to the past 2 weeks when so far, I've had 3 people ask me how to get their hands on hundreds of inserts like they do in the EC show because they want to start couponning. I try to explain that 1) You have to crawl before you walk and start with just a few inserts per week 2) Not just anyone can access that many inserts 3) you have to make couponning a full time job if you want to handle that many a week plus design and execute your transactions 4) no store in our area is going to let you use 100 coupons and walk out with 100 whatevers in one transaction. Each of these friends each have small children and careers, so it's not like they have all the time in the world to devote to it. I have explained that I am able to stockpile more than enough food and health/beauty items for my family of 3 on just 2-5 inserts a week. This gives me time for my career and time to spend with DD and DH, who is probably the most helpful husband that ever existed. If he were like many men and didn't clean the kitchen, vacuum, do laundry, and help out with DD, I wouldn't be able to handle couponning and everything else. I do want to see my friends succeed at this so I offer them coupons for things they need and I offer what help I can but it seems like everyone wants a quick fix and to see results overnight. And couponning is not that. Those extreme couponners didn't create their stockpiles overnight and the show makes it seem like they did. If I get to WAGs too late and the 4 boxes of whatever free after RR item they have for the week is gone, then that's WAG's problem for not stocking well because that means I will not buy anything in their store and I'll be much less likely to come back. However, if I need XX for a cookout I'm having that night and my closest grocery store (all the close ones to me are the same store!) is out of XX because some crazies with 100's of coupons came and cleared the shelves of every store in a 10 mile radius, that's different! And it has happened! So I welcome the newbies that enter this "game" with courtesy and respect for others (which I think 99% of them do). For those that are now the proud owners of 500 bottles of French's Dijon Mustard, you'll burn out in no time.

If you have a CVS, have you found the changes to be a shocker? It must have been around the time that you tapered off that I found a MAJOR resource for free coupon inserts. Some weeks I'd get (90) sets. I was able to stockpile a boatload of stuff for free and send really thick envies to a lot of the gals who had better deals than me. Unfortunately that awesome coupon source dried up. I am pulling back a little these days cuz the deals just aren't out there like they used to be (especially at CVS). I am waiting patiently for things to go back to the good ol' days. Time will tell.

I only hope that those who find how helpful coupons can be will continue to use them even when times get better. Many don't.

Wow!! After what I've read about ya'll's frustration with WAGS (I haven't been there for a deal in a really long time!), I went over to a local blog and she has what I think is a really GREAT post about shelf clearing! Check it out here: www.savingmoneyinmissouri.com/

My worst experience was a little over a week ago when a customer was actually screaming at the cashier because the cashier wouldn't take all her coupons. The customer was trying to use 6 of the same coupons on just one $6 item to get it down to nothing. She insisted that she had read that this was allowed and was being very cruel about it. It bothers me so much to see the cashier being treated like that. I need to realize that just because I'm seeing so much of this it doesn't mean everyone is like this and be a little more welcoming and not assume the worst in people. I will try to do better.

My problem in the beginning was I want to do every deal at every store I could. The tax adds up when your going to 4 different grocery stores, along with Wags, CVS and Target. Now, I mainly just shop Frys and occasionally go to Wags and CVS, Target has to have a deal that is worth my gas for me to go since it 4 miles from my house.

I just came back from Wags & Albertson's. I got a nice deal on the makings for Smores at Alb's. A box of HoneyMaid grahams, a 6 pack of Hershey's milk chocolate bars and a bag of Kraft marshmallows for $3 total. I'm slowly collecting the items needed for a good 'ol bbq that the husband & I will have when (if?) it ever stops raining here. At Wags, they didn't have the signs up on the Calcium or Icy Hot that are FARR. They've done that before. So sneaky. Maybe it works to stop people from buying the item? Not for me - I just check the ad to make sure I'm getting the right item. Now I'm hoping to roll these RR's next week, but we'll see what the test market offers.

For anything that I already have in my stockpile, "just free" isn't good enough for me unless I need a filler.

Check it out here: www.savingmoneyinmissouri.com/ Could it also be that non-couponers are stockpiling when they see a good sales price even though they aren't using coupons? My sister does that quite frequently. Although the store managers do not know what items that we have coupons for, the only excuse for not having plenty of a FARR item in stock is that the warehouse is out. I can't tell you how many times I have gone on a Sunday morning only to find two or three of a FARR item available and rarely do they get more in before the sale ends. Other than that, I agree with all the other points that Carrie made.

SNIP it seems like everyone wants a quick fix and to see results overnight. And couponning is not that. SNIP Yup - that is EXACTLY the problem. We live in a society of immediate gratification. So sad.

They show a person buying stuff and handing over a huge stack of coupons. And people talking about how they don't use money to buy groceries, they use their big stack of coupons (which they refer to as Bibles, which just creeps me out.)

I super scored at WAGS after work. Bought 6 right guard deodorants (4 with the sample BW attached) which were BOGO and I had three BOGO Q's, 3 Ecotrin for .99 with three $1.50 Q's and 4 Arizona Ice Teas for .99 (BOGO) for a TOTAL OOP OF $1.44. And besides that I had a great coupon friendly cashier who was loving my deal!! That always helps.
My kids laugh but just yesterday at daughter's for holiday cookout and my SIL needed deodorant and BW. I said don't you dare buy it, I have tons. I was happy to share with them.
BTW I have never bought the Arizona Ice Tea but I bought the the Diet Peach and Oo La La, I love it. I may have to go back and get more since they are BOGO this week and I have RR's.
