THIS IS NOT AN "ATTACK" on a moderator. It is what the topic suggests, nothing more, nothing less.
TNer locked the Topic: "Court Allows Sex-Change Surgery for 10-Year-Old Boy" offering as a reason:
It appears to me that TN locked the thread arbitrarily-- "I think".
There doesn't appear to be a clear CoC reason for locking this thread.
Lots of threads have run their course-- gas prices and tipping come to mind-- but they don't get locked.
Is there some clear reason a thread might be locked other than the arbitrary decree from a moderator that in their opinion it has run its course? Can we tell for example that a thread has run its course by some objective criteria?

If one reads the last 30 or so replies on the thread in question, you will see that it was wandering into potentially ugly territory. The moderater cautioned to keep it on topic. It continued to wander. He locked it.
Other threads die out by themselves without any ugliness.
Gray is okay.

That thread was getting ready to get very ugly by the looks of it.. I feel like heading it off at the pass was a good idea.

We have plenty of liberal mods. We need some balance here.

billsonboard-do you really want to have to write a dissertation each time you delete a post or lock or move a thread?

FWIW- I asked for an answer, and I got one. As I said- I don't want to get into a back and forth with moderators, I just wanted to know where TN was coming from and now I know.

FWIW........ why all of a sudden is this question popping up? Moon set up this forum pretty much along the lines of the old boards which means posters stick to the theme of the particular board they are posting on. Since when is a sex change operation a subject to be discussed on a Political board?
Paul, you have been on the boards far longer than the vast majority of the posters so why the question?? You have seen how an innocent subject can turn ugly in a heart beat which is why I am wondering why you are confused.

We're adults here (supposedly) and shouldn't have to have our hands held and each little nuance explained to us.

Regarding the upcoming mod elections to be held in june, i will state here and now that if you are one of my troublemakers - and you know who you are because you've either been banned or warned repeatedly- don't even bother submitting your name. You will not be considered.
additionally, any of the former msn mods who are mods here right now are going to be allowed to stay if they so choose, without having to be re-elected, simply because i value their experience.
