Yep. Some GOP members of congress say they are appalled. Not sure Gaetz will be confirmed. we can always hope.

I don't think Trump is aware of power balances, Trump thinks he's in charge and doesn't realize he's a useful idiot. Welp, you got the idiot part right. Not so sure about the useful part though.

'A tiger cannot change its stripes'. If gaetz actually gets the job, D.C. and Florida police can investigate him.

Asking who is going to get fired first is not the right question. Since they are being chosen almost exclusively for their willingness to do whatever Trump wants with zero pushback against him, I would not expect any to be fired. The better question is how many are so horrifically bad that four Republican senators will not vote to confirm?

Yep. Some GOP members of congress say they are appalled. Not sure Gaetz will be confirmed. we can always hope. Not to worry, they will be good little minions and toe the line. The GOP has been "appalled" many times since 2016. No reason to believe now would be any different. Graham has already flip-flopped.

The better question is how many are so horrifically bad that four Republican senators will not vote to confirm? As Bolton put it they are being selected for fealty to Trump. I don't have much faith in backbones in any of the GOP. It would be nice to be wrong about that, but most who had spines have fled federal office.

The better question is how many are so horrifically bad that four Republican senators will not vote to confirm? I’m thinking some of them are so horribly bad that they will do something so outrageous that Trump will be pressured (or bribed) to remove them. For instance, RFK might head the FDA. He is strongly anti big Pharma and has said he will fire 600 FDA employees- and I suspect he will shutdown the approval process for new drugs. Big pharma has a huge lobby and lots of money- if RFK gets the job (clearly he thinks he will, because he threw his support to Trump, but Trump hasn’t announced it yet) I don’t think he will keep it long. He’s going to find out how Trump rewards those who toe the line, I think.

Ok no, it’s the Fox News host who got picked as secretary of defense. Says he’s going to fire anyone in the military who ever supported a woke policy and ban women in combat because that’s dangerous. I think his military experience is serving in the army national guard before being a talking head on Fox. I'm with Swamp. I spent a long chunk of Wednesday driving and listening to the bios of the newest nominees. This was well before Gaetz got mentioned and during a time when the radio folks were scrupulous noting that Rubio's nomination had been reported by the media but not confirmed by Team Trump.
It was a long drive and sometimes the signal did not come in well, but at some point during the drive I definitely felt that one of the three nominees mentioned that day was not going to last long. I'm reasonably sure that person was Mr. H., the Fox guy. He seemed to be the guy taking the biggest pay cut and also the person who had the best exit options.

I don’t think anyone can be conciliatory enough to go the distance. Even Ivanka is out. Each of his cabinet members will run into a block wall and won’t be able to get around it no matter how hard they try. They will eventually say or do the wrong thing - likely because it was the right thing last week and they didn’t get the memo.
Plus, there is the possibility of a coup. Once Trump does enough that the other MAGAs can declare him incompetent, they can take control. All they have to do is last long enough, while driving him just crazy enough to make big mistakes.

There’s some Epstein recording where he gave interviews with Tomas Wolf, the writer, in the first year of Trump’s first term. He detailed how Trump loves to pit each admin person against each other, for instance, telling Kellyanne that Priebus thinks she’s screwing up, and what did she think? I could see how, within a year or two of that chaotic environment, they would be willing to join together to help declare him incompetent.

It will be interesting, as I expect him to appoint total boot lickers this time around (even more so than the first), so they may have more staying power. For selfish reasons I am most interested in who he is going to tap for Education Secretary. I was chatting with a friend the other day, and was trying to imagine the most horrid, ill suited person possible, as that is likely who we will get. This article, has some...interesting choices. I think it would totally align with Trump to appoint someone without even a BA to head ED. Boebert

The best person to pick for education is one of him minions that is dumber than a box of rocks. Brilliant minds think alike!

I was thinking of Boebert too. I read that she took the GED three times, and finally passed it a short time before she was elected to the House.

Typical of republicans. We have someone on this board trashing those at the bottom of their medical school class, but needing 3 attempts to get your GED makes you an acceptable choice to be elected to Congress

Mediocre is one thing. Outright stupid(and I would postulate that requiring 3 attempts to get your GED puts you at below average intelligence if you do not have a learning disability) is another. If you are in a position of significant importance, as is a member of the house is, most of us want someone with at least average intelligence passing laws affecting the country. But intelligence and competence are no longer valued by the Republican Party. The president-elect being exhibit #1

Back to thread topic: I am betting first fired will be the Attorney General. I know he hasn't named one yet, but whoever doesn't stand a chance of satisfying him. Well...I guess you win! I know he technically didn't get confirmed or fired...but sure looks like his second term is going to look a lot like his first term with a revolving door!

So how does this work? Gaetz resigns from Congress to take AG role, and now he’s withdrawn his name. Does this mean he’s out altogether?
