I'm having yard work done this week, so I wasn't going anywhere. Boston was supposed to see ~93% totality, so I'm a little less than that being so far southeast. I'm actually sitting outside right now b/c the direct sun feels amazing after weeks of rain and drizzle. I'm keeping a close eye on my dogs, and if they freak out we will just head inside when it gets dark. the "peak" is set for 3:29pm, according to NASA.

Almost 50% here so far, expecting closer to 90%. Watching Texas on CNN now. Good show even if only 98%.

We got up to 87%, allegedly. Sounds about right. DS was sort of underwhelmed but pleased to get out of school early. DH had fun setting up the telescope to get an expanded/filtered image. Some cloud cover but it was intermittent. Starting to come out of it now.

Unfortunately, the clouds didn't clear out for us. DH and I decided to spend the afternoon doing yard work to be outside. It was amazing how quickly it went to full dark, with an edge of lighter sky around the cloudy horizon. But no view of the sun itself.

I went out of my office a few times to check it out. There were too many thin clouds much of the time, but I was able to see it occasionally. The day was very bright despite the clouds.

We had a great view in the backyard in southeast Nebraska. No leaves on the trees yet. Sky was sunny and clear. I bought the grandkids a gently used sandbox and they enjoyed that while the adults viewed the eclipse. Fun day.

The clouds moved out. Had a potluck lunch and we were allowed to go out and watch the eclipse. It was an experience. Traffic was light going into work and not any heavier going home.

DS5 just called - he went with a bunch of friends to view the eclipse. They had to travel off campus to get inside the band of totality. Heading back to campus, they hit a deer. Everybody ok, well, except for the deer.

I said why isn't it totally dark. Then we realized that the big outdoor yard light had came on, LOL! Hubs went around the corner of the house and said it was dark back there. That's where we should have been sitting. But I noticed even after the sun showed fully again the birds didn't start signing again for some time. I never heard it so quiet here. And in that few minutes of the full eclipse, had to get DD and I blankets it got so cold.

Back from the eclipse trip! It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen! We did drive a few miles down the road so we could view the totality. OMG! Us and 60 random new friends converged on a trailhead parking area. It was amazing!! I met folks from several states away who had driven in for it. How we all ended up at this place is just crazy ..."I was driving and saw all the cars, thought this would be a good spot!"
It was like being at a festival!!
This was everything and more that I had hoped for. The weather was gorgeous and the setting was gorgeous. If I ever hit the lottery, I would travel the earth chasing solar eclipses! I hope I'm alive in 2044 so I can see the next one.

We were in New York state along Lake Erie. It was amazing. The cloud cover before didn't matter. The 4 minutes of total darkness and significant air temps dropping was crazy! Then the clouds mostly parted for viewing the eclipse for the last 45 minutes. So glad we made the trip because doubtful I will be able to when the next one occurs. We were also with a group which made it like a party and we made new friends!

We had a wonderful time visiting extended family in Indiana and hit the eclipse jackpot for clear skies. My husband's Aunt made little eclipse snack bags full of themed snacks like Sun Chips, Mooncakes, Star Crunchies, Starburst candy, Milkyway bars, etc... We all had matching eclipse T-Shirts that the local high school was selling as a fundraiser. I was surprised at how quickly the temperature changed from a bit hot to a bit chilly in just minutes.
Seeing the ring of light around the dark sun was right out of a scifi movie. Fortunately there was no apocalypse.
I was expecting 10 hours of misery driving home through the rain, but we got lucky and beat the storm the whole way home, so the drive was pleasant.

During the lead up to yesterday's total eclipse, I/we kept on hearing the next total eclipse would be in twenty years/2044. But yesterday on tv someone knowledgatable had several graphs. It showed the path for the 2044 path over the U.S.. It only showed the eclipse being over North and South Dakota. It did not say if the Dakotas were the beginning or ending of a total eclipse over the U.S. and the path on the chart ended at the U.S./Canada border. I am guessing western Canada would experience it too.
But the other graph showed a total eclipse over the U.S. for 2046. And this total eclipse would be visible from the northwest U.S. to the southeast.
So don't set your calendars for 2044 but for 2046.
