In Louisville KY, not a lot of details yet: LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Five people were killed and six others hospitalized in a shooting at a bank building Monday morning in downtown Louisville, police said.
The suspected shooter was also dead, Louisville Metro Police Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey told a news conference.
Witnesses who left the building told Louisville station WHAS-TV they heard gunfire inside the building.
Numerous police vehicles were seen on television footage. WHAS reporters said they saw people being taken from the scene in ambulances.
In a tweet, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said he was heading to the scene.
“Please pray for all of the families impacted and for the city of Louisville,” Beshear said.
The FBI said its agents were also responding to the shooting.
The shooting happened in a building on East Main Street that houses the Old National Bank not far from the Louisville Slugger Field and Waterfront Park.

If It's Monday, It Must Mean There Is Another Mass Shooting.

Let's try doing nothing again, politicians. It's worked SO well in the past... (You just can't even make up this kind of stupidity.)

Just saw an update on this. One officer was shot in the head. And, apparently the gunman was filming live. This makes me both sick & sad.

Saw an earlier report they think it wasn’t a bank robbery, they think it was a disgruntled employee.
Glad our second amendment rights are so well protected a mentally unbalanced person had access to weapons, if that is in fact what happened.

The alleged suspect, who died after police responded to the scene, graduated from the University of Alabama and began working at the bank in 2018 when he started out as an intern, law enforcement sources told ABC News.
He was made a full-time employee in October 2021 and was promoted last April, sources said.abcnews.go.com/US/louisville-shooting-suspect/story?id=98484571Given the timing, I wonder if he had recently gotten a performance review he didn't agree with. And it was that, possibly a loss of his position even due to cost cutting that set him off. I'm sick of the collective nods if it is discovered the shooter had a mental illness or alledgedly was under a doctor's care in therapy of some sort. The mentally ill as a whole are no more violent than the non mentally ill. Something set off his 25 yr old male righteous indignation and I don't believe that was his mental illness. After all, he worked there from 2018 through March 2023 without shooting his co-workers. What changed? As a side note, I have not seen the manifesto released from the Nashville shooter even though he is dead and won't be on trial. In the articles I read, some folks noticed he had changed after a classmate's death in a car accident. What triggered this guy and will the media even report on it?

Right, because GOP white males do not use he/him. Back in my day, when dinosaurs did disco dancing, the idea of calling all women ‘Ms’ instead of Miss and Mrs caused conservatives to wring their hands and wail about the nation being destroyed by feminists. Today, it’s the same thing, except now the thing that is destroying everything is how people post the pronouns they prefer on their facebook page. The horror of a they/them!!! This was a guy, he said he wanted to use he/him, calm the fuck down and can we please talk about mental health issues and guns everywhere? Fun fact, on the news tonight they said Kentucky laws make it mandatory for all guns confiscated by the cops to be sold at public auction- so maybe some other nut job will get his hands on the same gun in the future. Because guns don’t do anything wrong!!! Stupid Kentucky.

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - On Tuesday, WYMT’s Steve Hensley sat down with Republican gubernatorial candidate Kelly Craft for an upcoming episode of Issues & Answers: The Mountain Edition. Craft and Hensley discussed numerous topics, including Monday’s mass shooting in Louisville. She said she would not support stricter gun control measures, but said we need to focus more on mental health. “We have to look at the mental health crisis in this state. We’ve had shutdowns from COVID, we shut this state down,” said Craft. “It has caused a huge mental health crisis going on right here in the state of Kentucky. We have got to look at ways to provide resources to individuals that are feeling the stress, that are feeling as if they are having a mental health issue. We need to take away that stigma.” www.wymt.com/2023/04/11/republican-candidate-gov-kelly-craft-weighs-louisville-mass-shooting/How do they plan on addressing the mental health crisis? Why are they never ask that question? How are a lot of mental health issues going to be addressed when most of these people do not have health insurance? I know two people who deal with this daily and this is an issue.

They have no interest in addressing mental health. It is just a distraction from having to talk about the real issue, the easy availability of guns. If they talk about mental health, it changes the subject. The republican who said we aren't going to fix this is right. They have no desire to fix it.

This country has no interest, either morally or financially, in dealing with the mental health crisis.
To deal with the large systemic issues that lead to people feeling disaffected and hopeless enough to murder fellow citizens you have to deal with just how broken our capitalistic meat grinder of a society is. There is zero chance that happens.
We will just keep on keeping on and shrugging our shoulders.

True, but why is that question not asked when they trot out the "mental health" excuse? If you have anyone in your family or know anyone that does....you cannot get mental health help if you are mentally ill. You can't keep a job where you will have health insurance and afford the help and the meds.
One of my friends has been dealing with this for years. Her son will do good for a while, then go off his meds, lose his job and apartment until she can get him stabilized again. He one of the lucky ones that has parents who have recourses to do that.
But there is not one thing that could keep him from buying a gun.
I just want to know if they believe this "mental health" excuse, what is their solution to solve it.

Mentally ill people are more of danger to themselves than other people. I guess when something like this happens, which we don't understand, and we want an explaination..... "Mentally ill" tidies it up but many killers are not mentally ill. That's not to say you couldn't have more access to treatment for Mentally ill people .... people having a rough time, can make a full recovery. As for the pronouns...... I don't think people murder over pronouns..... I don't understand the premise of that at all.

First, they don't care. Second, it would require some form of "socialism" to actually deal with mental illness, AKA "National Health Insurance". Third, it would interfere with their ability to get whatever gun they want right now. Can't have that. SO, we are left with "thoughts and prayers". Until we love our children more than our guns, we are left with the status quo.

I read an article yesterday that the shooter played football during his youth and high school years and he was knocked out a number of times. I would imagine when the guy is autopsied they might find he suffered from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). CTE may explain his actions the other day. What Is CTE?Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy ExplainedThe condition known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) was formerly believed to exist primarily among boxers, and was referred to as dementia pugilistica. It is a progressive degenerative disease which afflicts the brain of people who have suffered repeated concussions and traumatic brain injuries, such as athletes who take part in contact sports, members of the military and others. The term encephalopathy derives from Ancient Greek en- "in," kephale "head," and patheia "suffering." Chronic traumatic encephalopathy is a condition of brain damage which persists over a period of years or decades and which is the result of traumatic impacts to the cranium. The brain of an individual who suffers from chronic traumatic encephalopathy gradually deteriorates and will over time end up losing mass. Certain areas of the brain are particularly liable to atrophy, though other areas are prone to becoming enlarged. Another aspect of CTE is that some areas of the brain experience an accumulation of tau protein, a substance which serves to stabilize cellular structure in the neurons but which may become defective and subsequently may cause major interference with the function of the neurons. Symptoms of Chronic Traumatic EncephalopathyThe symptoms of CTE can be debilitating and may have life-changing effects for both the individual and for his or her family. Some of the most common include loss of memory, difficulty controlling impulsive or erratic behavior, impaired judgment, behavioral disturbances including aggression and depression, difficult with balance, and a gradual onset of dementia. An individual with CTE may mistakenly ascribe the symptoms to the normal process of aging, or might receive a wrong diagnosis due to the fact that many of the symptoms are similar to other conditions such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease. CTE has been diagnosed in several notable cases which received widespread media attention, including the suicide deaths of NFL player Junior Seau, and professional wrestler Chris Benoit who committed suicide after murdering his wife and son. Rest of article here: What Is CTE?

The people who probably know best if someone is crazy are family members. And most likely, family members are mostly loathe to notify authorities they have a crazy person in the family and that (s)he owns firearms. The crazy ones walk amongst us and we are not safe.
