I drive through Springfield on my way to work, and curse that highway design every time. But at least in MA and CT I am generally not worried about my basic rights being imperiled by the legislature. and now I'm curious where (generally) you are. I'm on Cape Cod, but grew up between Boston and Worcester.

Currently in central CT, working in Western, MA. Grew up mostly in Maine, though spent a lot of my summers in MA as my mom's family was in the Attleboro area.

Scenario: Single mom with 3 kids gets a secret abortion because she cannot afford to raise/feed anymore children (or any other god damn reasons she has about needing an abortion, its her body!). Gets caught, gets executed, and now there are 3 more orphaned children within the foster system. This is proves even more that the GOP really don't care about the living at all!
I know women are supposed to support other women, but the women that think this kind of crap is okay, don't deserved any support! It amazes me that there are brainwashed women out there than think its okay to execute a woman because she got an abortion.
This shit is getting out of hand!

Do not assume that getting to her execution will be quick. She will spend years or a decade in jail (appeals, waiting for the laws to change, etc) - watching as her children bounce around between relatives or the foster system. Not to mention how this effects the kids and the mother's extended family - I would imagine there's a bit of shame that goes with having a parent in prison. Either way - an unwanted child born or the mother punished for aborting it - this family more than likely loses in the long run. I'm pretty sure on the scale of Evil - anti abortions hit and light up the highest possible level of EVIL available to humans.

You get to teach the sinners a lesson, profit off it, and maybe get a baby to to place through your adoption agencies, where you have guaranteed those kid will only go to good Christian families and not any of the undesirables. It's a win, win, win for the GOP.

Tell the women who cannot feed any more kids to move to Minnesota to raise their children because this GOP state senator states no one goes hungry in the state. GOP state legislator opposed to free school lunch proposal says he's never met a hungry MinnesotanA Republican state senator in Minnesota said Tuesday he was voting against a bill to provide free breakfast and lunch for school students in part because he'd never encountered anyone in the state who was hungry. “I have yet to meet a person in Minnesota that is hungry,” Sen. Steve Drazkowski said in remarks on the floor of the State Capitol in St. Paul before voting on the legislation. "I have yet to meet a person in Minnesota that says they don’t have access to enough food to eat.” "Now, I should say that hunger is a relative term," added Drazkowski, 58. "I had a cereal bar for breakfast. I guess I'm hungry now." Drazkowski was first elected to the state Senate last year after having Drazkowski in the state House for about 15 years. He represents a district in the southeast part of the state, along the Mississippi River. The bill's author, Democratic-Farmer-Labor Sen. Heather Gustafson, said it's estimated that almost 275,000 students in the state get free and reduced-price school meals. She said another 18% of students who would be likely to qualify haven't submitted the necessary paperwork. "Roughly 1 in 6 children are food insecure — that means they don’t know when and where their next meal will be available, if they get one at all," Gustafson said. She said passing the measure, which would cost $420 million over the next two years, is “the right thing to do.” “Being hungry makes learning almost impossible,” Gustafson said. “Let’s feed the kids.” The measure passed by a vote of 38-26 and is expected to be signed into law by Gov. Tim Walz. Drazkowski called the bill "pure socialism," adding, "This is about the government dictating to kids what they're going to eat and how much they’re going to eat." He said any additional funding should go to improve overall education. "That's what our schools are for," he said. Yes, there are hungry children in the state. He should volunteer at one of the food shelves, and see how many mothers with children come through the line. I can't even...

Tennessee is trying its best to make that happen. Article dated March 9, 2023. Tennessee Republicans pass bill letting clerks refuse marriage licenses to LGBTQ couplesThe bill is a direct challenge to federal marriage equality protections The Republican-controlled Tennessee state House of Representatives voted on Monday to pass a bill that would allow county officials to deny same-sex or interracial couples marriage licenses. House Bill 878 states that county clerks and their staff "shall not be required to solemnize a marriage if the person has an objection to solemnizing the marriage based on the person's conscience or religious beliefs." The bill now heads to the Senate, which will begin consideration of its passage in the chamber next week. If the bill becomes state law, it would directly challenge federal marriage equality protections, including Supreme Court rulings and the recently-passed Respect for Marriage Act. The Respect for Marriage Act, which passed in the last congressional session and was signed into law by President Joe Biden, requires states to recognize same-sex marriage licenses from other states but does not require them to issue same-sex marriage licenses themselves — meaning that if federal marriage equality protections are ever undone by the conservative-led Supreme Court, states would be able to deny same-sex couples the right to marry. Federal marriage equality protections have been in place since 2015, when the Supreme Court ruled in Obergefell v. Hodges that states must grant same-sex couples the right to marry. Decades earlier, in the 1967 case Loving v. Virginia , the Court ruled that states could not ban interracial marriages. In the Supreme Court case upending abortion rights last summer, however, Justice Clarence Thomas suggested that justices should re-examine Obergefell and other cases based on "due process" precedents and the right to privacy standard previously established by the Court. The Tennessee bill, which has a high likelihood of passing, has the potential to upend marriage equality protections across the country — if the bill becomes law, it will likely be challenged, resulting in appeals that could work their way up to the Supreme Court. Critics condemned the bill for being a blatant attack on LGBTQ couples in the state, pointing out that the legislature has already passed a number of bills aimed at restricting the rights of LGBTQ people. "Extremist Tennessee lawmakers are unrelenting in their discriminatory attacks on the LGBTQ+ community," said Human Rights Campaign Legal Director Sarah Warbelow, adding that this bill and other anti-LGBTQ bills "are about stripping away the basic human rights that LGBTQ+ people have fought for over decades, forcing LGBTQ+ people, particularly transgender and non-binary people, back in the closet and labeling us as dangerous." "The Tennessee House of Representatives continues to be one of the most dangerous legislative chambers in the country for LGBTQ+ people," Tennessee Equality Project Executive Director Chris Sanders said. Tennessee Republicans pass bill letting clerks refuse marriage licenses to LGBTQ couplesWas reading this article out of your state earlier today as well. They are just batting a thousand. www.propublica.org/article/tennessee-abortion-ban-doctors-ectopic-pregnancyI know no state is perfect, but it is why you would have blast me out of New England (except maybe NH/ME which always lag) with dynamite at this point. Same here. NYS sucks for many reasons, but their approach to civil liberties rocks.

I'm not, but my family is. Aunts in North Attleboro, brother in Marshfield. Trying to relocate to be a bit closer to work, but even in the far reaches of Western Mass, the rental prices are more than I want to pay, and housing stock is basically nil. Maybe one day...

I hear you there. I bought in the fall of 2020, right in the sweet spot of tiny interest rates and prices not yet skyrocketing. even still, my home has appreciated about $100k. it's a 1200sf little ranch in the woods. mind, blown. this market is insane, I'm sorry.

He’s getting highly criticized. Appearing to be reading a question from a supporter, Shapiro said: “If government can protect kids from the sick radical left shouldn’t they also protect kids from hunger? Wouldn’t it make sense to strengthen food stamps and have school lunch be free since some kids are in school lunch debt?” “Well,” Shapiro responded, “school lunches are not going to solve the problem of child hunger at any serious level. I know I have three of them,” he added. Shapiro wasn’t finished. He later went on to attack U.S. Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA), who had called the right wing pundit’s remarks “dumb.” “Let’s do math,” Congressman Lieu had offered. “Say a kid should eat 21 meals a week. School lunches provide 5 of those meals, solving nearly one-fourth of the problem. That’s pretty good. Oh and how about you miss one of your meals five days a week and see how you feel,” he added. Shapiro responded by saying, “Dear Ted: if you think the key thing standing between kids and starvation is school lunch, that’s silly. If a child is on the verge of starvation, you must call CPS [Child Protective Services], not spend hundreds of millions on disproportionately unhealthy lunches, a huge percentage of which are discarded.” Rest of article here: Ben Shapiro flamed for suggesting sending kids to CPS is a better alternative than offering free lunches

I didn't see where Ben said they should cancel the school lunch program. He is saying they are not the answer to child starvation and if people are saying the opposite are wrong. Of course left leaning people will twist this around.

Where did anyone claim that Shapiro said that? The headline suggests that he thinks CPS is a better solution to child hunger than free lunch, because that's what he said. He's the idiot that was trying to score "points" by minimizing the problem of childhood hunger. You can be hungry without being starving. But he wanted to own the libs, so he went for hyperbole.

Of course left leaning people will twist this around. he is saying they won't solve child hunger, and that statement is mostly false. of course, anyone with any sense would challenge that assertion, as well as challenging the idea that they are ONLY intended for that purpose. the expansion of this program during Covid reduced childhood poverty 50%. it was the most beautiful case study i have ever seen for the ability of government to reduce poverty. so, now that we know that, what will we do? cut the program, of course.

Perhaps, maybe, do you think?....the answer to child hunger just might be paying living wages to the parents? Could also making housing affordable help too?
CPS isn't the answer! That's a pretty stupid statement from someone who is 'supposed' to be educated.

Of course left leaning people will twist this around. School lunches help and cut costs for those people on the margins. Surely that is a better solution than CPS generally.

It is a good program. I never denied it. I agree with Shapiro that it is not the answer if there is starvation. I disagree with him if he thinks it should be abolished.
