trump is in trouble. Koch is throwing his considerable money at a GOP candidate who isn't trump. The article doesn't say Koch is backing Nikki Haley... but she does have ties to Koch AND she announced she would run for president. And perhaps the Republican swing voters who wouldn't vote for Hillary will vote for Nikki (as the lesser or two evils)? They thought trump was a lesser evil than Hillary. (which is weird.... Nikki's not really "white" and she's a woman - but I guess they would vote for her - just because "she's one of them" ? who knows.) www.cnn.com/2023/02/05/politics/koch-network-republican-primary-2024/index.htmlAnd then what happens to the "trump like" Governors (in future elections) if being 'trump like' is no longer tolerated? Is this the old school GOP's attempt to take back it's party??

I think it is a real stretch to connect the linked article to support for Haley. Here is my read of it:
What the landscape for GOP presidential nomination looks like is you have Trump with a relatively strong plurality of support. If there are enough others splitting up the rest of the primary votes, he could get the nomination without majority support. The most important word in the linked article is 'a". The Koch organization is announcing they will get involved in the primary process and back one particular candidate. Their audience for this announcement is the group of people thinking about running. They are warning, "if you aren't our choice, there will be a considerable amount of money spent for the person we do pick. We advise against you trying to overcome that disadvantage."

I do not believe the US is ready for a women president. Too many sexist people out there. I think they will continue to use them as "window dressing." "Look how evolved we are! , but we will not seriously consider them to be viable candidates. Unfortunately, we continue to exclude 1/2 of the population, leaving may talented people out of consideration.

That was the popular vote totals for president in 2016. The larger number was a female candidate. Didn't win because of a technicality, but significantly more than window dressing.

Against one of the worst individuals to ever run for(and be elected president). I think we have regressed since then, largely due to the same individual. If she runs against Trump, which do you think is more likely: Trump treats her respectfully, as a legitimate candidate, or he belittles her and pulls his usual misogynistic nonsense. Before you say he treats everyone disrespectfully, he treats women worse. And his supporters will eat it up, or hold their nose and vote for him, "because he didn't mean it." And they can exhibit their misogyny as well. They are a significant percentage of voters in too many states to discount.

A majority of American voters voted for a female to be their president. That to me shows a readiness by America.

It's the GOP that isn't ready for a woman in the Oval Office.

It's the GOP that isn't ready for a woman in the Oval Office. I think Haley is a great test case for this. She has the resume. She is solid in her conservative policy positions. All evidence suggests she is a strong campaigner.

Until trump unleashes his misogynistic crap on her And if it causes voters to not vote for her, it would support the idea that GOP votere would not support a female. If it doesn't, it would just reflect on Donald Trump.

Until trump unleashes his misogynistic crap on her Maybe it’s just crazy optimism on my part but it seems like a good chunk of the electorate, including the GOP part, might be sick to death of Trumps name calling, braggadocio, dirty kind of campaign. I’d be interested to see if he can run her off or if the voters turn on him when he does his usual bs.

That is such an informed and well researched reason to elect a female president of the U.S.. We need a good looking figurehead. How about Keri Lake or Nikki Haley. They are both 2 beautiful looking woman.

But given republicans desire for competency in their representatives, appropriate

I can hear Keri Lake responding to the beauty pageant judge's question of "How can the USA help third world countries escape hunger and poverty" and Keri Lake screeches "They can vote for me for governor because the 2022 Arizona governor's election was stolen from me! Waawww waaawwwwwww waaaaaaa" Get the hook.

i have a hard time believing that the GOP would nominate a woman candidate. i have no idea what kind of candidate she would make, for the record. Especially not Nimrata Nikki Haley....or even Nimrata Randhawa (her maiden name). Imagine Trump tweeting that over and over (and over and over and over)...just like Barrack "Hussein" Obama. She won't stand a chance.

Nikki Haley seems to have forgotten people 75 and older still vote. Nikki Haley launches GOP campaign by insulting Americans age 75 and over. Great start!Watch out, mid-to-upper septuagenarians. Newly minted GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley has questions about your mental acuity! The South Carolina governor and former U.N. ambassador formally launched her campaign Wednesday with, among other things, a call for “mandatory mental competency tests for politicians over 75 years old.” That line was surely aimed at pleasing Republicans who’ve convinced themselves that 80-year-old President Joe Biden is senile (while also being a devious criminal and an all-powerful leftist singlehandedly transforming America into a socialist hellscape). But it was also a shot at 76-year-old former President Donald Trump, a candidate as well, and at a sizable swath of the GOP’s most reliable base of voters. A Pew Research Center study of the 2020 presidential election found voters ages 75 to 92 were the only ones who clearly favored Trump over Biden, by 58% to 42%. As a liberal, I can see why you might want to check the mental competency of anyone who supported Trump, but from a strategic point of view, launching your Republican campaign with a heavy dose of ageism seems unwise. Rest of article here: Nikki Haley launches GOP campaign by insulting Americans age 75 and over. Great start!
