PS- the standard way to value companies is 3x earnings + net assets.
the way TWITTER was valued was by taking the market value (stock price x number of shares) and adding a premium.
$44B was ridiculous for a petty battle over the Twittersphere, which is what this is.

Elon told his employees at Twitter that the 'economic picture ahead is dire". You think?
Great business move. Just goes to show how even smart people overestimate their abilities

this was all about his "radical free speech" agenda. he doesn't understand thing one about the constitution and how it relates to businesses. Going to be an expensive lesson for him I think i agree. and here is the thing about that. he has some pretty obvious talents in business. and he has some very real ideas about products and technology. he became wealthy exercising those talents. he seems to think that those talents are transferable to social media. did he ever question that? i doubt it. note to the board: i have similar talents to Musk. he is probably vastly more talented than me in a similar way. i would never DREAM of running a social media company.

LMAO! I am so happy to see that Musk is bringing Twitter down. I have never been on it and never will be! He is just like the Asshole in Mar a Lago! He thinks he knows everything about everything.

If Musk is the center of a criminal investigation, will it be called Elongate?

is Twitter still cratering?
many people that were unhappy with Twitter before are already on Mastadon. and love it. how long will it take for Twitter to become MySpace?

the world has changed, he hates it, and he wants the old world back. in manufacturing, he can make a case for it. in tech? he can forget it. nobody wants to come back to the office full time in tech. nobody.

I have been working from home since March 2020, and been more productive than ever. There are no distractions for me here, and because I don't have an almost hour commute each way, I am putting in more hours, and still having an amazing work/life balance. If my company were to try to bring us all back in full time, I would quit. Luckily, they have given us the okay to be WFH for good.

With so many employees taking the 3-month severance, I have to wonder whether Twitter can or will pay them all. And if they do, how long will it take, with no one left to process the payments?

Thanks for posting this link, it disappeared on me when I went looking for it again. I found this part of the article very interesting - In a set of emails sent around midnight PT on Friday, Musk asked to meet with "anyone who actually writes software" on Friday afternoon. He told people to line up on the 10th floor of Twitter's San Francisco headquarters, where he's been working since taking over the company about three weeks ago, at 2 p.m. PT. Employees were asked to first send Musk a "bullet point summary" by email of their code for the past six months, along with "up to 10 screenshots of the most salient lines of code."
I'll be shocked if many take him up on this offer. I think that alone would inspire an exodus of those who write code.

yeah, i really think his reasons for doing this were not businesslike. it was bourne out of some weird set of what HE thinks are principles, but really just boil down to petty spite and his own misconception of freedom.
i mean, it is his RIGHT to do any of this stuff. he can do it. nobody will stop him. other than the marketplace.

I'm hearing trump's account was reinstated based on a poll Musk created as to whether trump's account should be reinstated. Slight majority said yes.

At least part of the $44 billion was borrowed. To stave off the creditors, he could file a bankruptcy petition and make those severed workers wait forever for their severance.

To stave off the creditors, he could file a bankruptcy petition and make those severed workers wait forever for their severance. banrkuptcies of recently purchased companies are extraordinarily rare. i appreciate your pushback on this, but i would re-assert that there is money in the transaction to pay for this (or there damned well should be). i think that Musk's bankruptcy talk is just that. if there IS a bankruptcy in the future for Twitter, it will be way further out than 90 days. the severed employees will have already been paid, and will have moved on to better companies. NOTE: the above is entirely my opinion, based on my observations about Musk, social media companies, investor funding, and general corporate governance and timelines.
